Final Fantasy XIV For PS3 Has A XMB-Like Menu And Other Tidbits

By Spencer . October 9, 2012 . 9:30pm

ff14s1Famitsu has a little information about the PlayStation 3 version of Final Fantasy XIV. The magazine says Final Fantasy XIV for PS3 will have a menu that’s similar to the XMB menu.

Players will use the d-pad and L/R buttons to select commands during battle. The bottom of the screen has four rows of icons horizontally lined up.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is slated for a Q1 release in 2013.

hmm looks interesting, can’t say that i’m not interested to jump in, just hope it won’t fail again like FFXIV 0.5 did

  • Godman

This is one MMO I would try, especially since it came a long way from its crashing launch.
I hope they removed that EXP limiter -_-

    • Draparde

they did :D a long time ago actually.

      • Godman

Woot! Mark this down for me

that limiter was a downer good riddance   :)

  • Draparde

I’m interested to see this Menu in action. since it will be what i’m primarily using (even on PC i use a PS3 controller lol)

Agreed.  I’m hoping that they leave the “controller” layout intact for the PC version.  I can play almost every modern MMO with a controller these days, and I find it superior to keyboard/ mouse in almost every respect. So far I haven’t seen anything saying that they will or won’t, which can be worrying either way.

      • Draparde

yeah, i’d like to think they would. but there’s always a chance they wont >_< hopefully if they don't in the alpha/beta enough people bring it up for them to add support for it lol.

        • Ookami

PC version will have nearly the same special UI for controller than PS3 ;)

PC user will be able to choose which is the best for him ^^

          • Peeka Chu

Don’t know where you’re getting your info from, but thanks! :)

Agreed. I prefer a controller for most things in gaming.

There as exceptions, Touhou is doable with a controller, but is really more keyboard friendly somehow(feels more precise). And Terraria just isn’t a very controller friendly game with the heavy use of the mouse.

But when I don’t want a controller, it’s usually because I want both. And that’s very much the case in MMORPGs where more peripherals is better. For moving around, a controller is definitely better in general than a keyboard. I particularly enjoy an analogue stick for movement that modern gamepads tend to provide. Not to mention a few buttons for simple tasks and an extra stick for the camera. The mouse can be more precise, but an analogue stick, when it’s on the same pad you use to primarily move, makes it well enough and very helpful. I grew up on action games designed for a d-pad and analogue stick, so that’s what I’m used to. And after all these years I prefer it to wasd greatly.

And console style menus, while some PC gamers hate them, offer something great in their elegant simplicity for me. So I definitely want any and all console options in the PC version.

  • CirnoLakes

Do I get the option for something similar on my PC version if I want it?

I was was never one to complain about the “console-ness” of the menu in the early days like some folks.

Also, I don’t know if they’ve done this yet, but might as well add full XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3 controller support for the PC equal to that of the PlayStation 3. I’m not going to lie, I like controllers for some things. I love my PC, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love controllers. And good controller support on the PC is a nice thing. Tera literally has an XBOX 360 or PlayStation 3 controller map displayed on screen. Obviously have full support for both.

well maybe if they push the free to play model on ps3, otherwise this its dead on arrival
