You Can Play Virtua Fighter 2 In Yakuza 5

By Spencer . October 12, 2012 . 12:03am

Sega’s Yakuza series has nods to their company’s history and Yakuza 5’s virtual Virtua Fighter 2 arcade cabinets tops them all. The Virtua Fighter team collaborated with the Yakuza team to make Virtua Fighter 2 playable in Yakuza 5. You can select version 2.0 or version 2.1. Virtua Fighter 2 has a two player mode and Sega hints there may be original Yakuza 5 elements in the game.

Yakuza 5 also has the prerequisite fishing mini-game. Instead of fishing in a sea, Yakuza 5 has river fishing.

You can also visit sticker photo booths and…

… play air hockey with hostesses. Like the ping pong game in Yakuza 4 you can "zoom in" when you do a heat smash.

Yakuza 5.  Game within a game within a game within a game.

    • My thoughts exactly.

  • Yooooosh the table tennis(now Air Hockey) minigame. I spent hours on it~ For pretty obvious reasons.

  • Asukami

I’ve never played a Yakuza game before, but this one looks like it’ll be fun. If it’s localized, I think I’ll be picking it up. Oh, and in a game where you’re beating up thugs, cute hostesses are always a plus!

  • aoihana

Whoa, that’s awesome! I always loved how you can interact so much with your environment in Yakuza, but I felt like the arcades needed a little oomph. It was fun conquering the crane, but playing Virtua Fighter? Awesome. ლ(´ڡ`ლ)

Reminds me of the arcades in Shenmue. I loved how you can play classics like Space Harrier and After Burner on their respective cabinets. (◕‿◕✿)

  • Shadowman

A game within the game that is awesome.

    • Syn

Its actually a minigame of a game within a game!!! How twisted is that!

  • SolidusSnake

Oh man, I can’t wait to piss away hundreds of hours playing Virtua Fighter while I play Yakuza!

  • CirnoLakes

Oh how far technology has come.

  • Sega’s always been teasing with Virtua Fighter 5 arcade cabinets from Yakuza 3 up this point. Yakuza 5 will finally let us play Virtua Fighter… 2? I never played THAT game before so what the ho-ha!

Yakuza 6 mini games.  Next up.  Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution.  I don’t know if they’ve made an arcade version of this, but they could improvise.

They could make it so like Kazuma takes a player card, which is then universal with all characters.  Then the only thing available is the quest mode.  You can go to the shop or any of the arcades.  You can choose quests, but once you start fighting enemies though, it’s endless until you either back out to finish your quest or lose all rounds.  Then you have to insert more money.

The high score section could be each arcade has its own scoring section and how many opponents you’ve beaten in a row.

Honestly.  You know what game would work online the best?  The arcade version of Soul Calibur 2.  Anyone else remember that conquest mode where you chose one nation to fight for, and then you’d fight against other peoples ghosts, and gain stats depending on how you fight and how well you did.  You’d also take over a portion of their land.  They should do something like that but only allow you to join in the conquest mode three times a day and only save a certain amount of max points(kind of like WKC2) so you can’t just not play and come with 100 later on.  Would be really awesome.

And once again Sega proves that if they give their 100 efforts, they will be able to deliver goodness like this.^_^

The only thing they missing is the possibility to sing Karaoke with the whole gangXD

    • William Hsia

omg i would cry from the sheer awesomeness, can you imagine them all doing machinegun kiss?

  • Rei

This is awesome. I can’t wait. Yakuza 4 was awesome.

  • ddh819

i wonder if it will let you plug in a fighting stick for VF2 easily without turning off the regular controller

  • Syn

Sooooo, if we can do all this, just how much ARENT they showing us!! Damn, am going to spend countless hours walking to random objects and pressing the action button….. Sega, gotta love em.

  • Just Tim

Now we’re talking!  Given @SEGA:twitter’s backlog, it would be amusing if you’d be given the option to also play arcade renditions of Puyo Puyo, Crazy Taxi, Super Monkey Ball, House of the Dead, to name a few; as in, if you have some of their classics’ digital game copy on the hardware, you can access them as a mini-game.

Enjoy getting to Jeffrey and losing over and over and over.

  • I’ve never played a Yakuza title before, but I really kind of want this one.

    • shaolinsword

The games can be a bit text heavy at times (seeing as its subbed) and the “random encounters” can get repetitive but they’re really good

      • alixraen

Oh, they’re subbed? I dunno then…I have reservations about playing an entirely subbed game for the same reason I just can’t watch subbed anime – I have a really hard time reading the text and following what’s going on at the same time. Doesn’t mean I’m automatically not going to buy this game, it just gives me something to consider. Thanks for the heads-up.

        • TheAquacharger

That’s one of the two reasons why I refuse to get Yak. The second reason was because during an online Q&A session with one of Sega’s people I was told “No one would ever want Yakuza subbed and we wouldn’t gain any customers by having the game subbed, so STFU.” I was then banned from the Q&A session along with a friend who also asked for subs.

Also the subs in Yak aren’t that good either. Random small words(like nani and such) aren’t translated which can add confusion ontop of quick subs during movies.

  • Demeanor

OMG so much awesomeness, DAT WATER!
I’d be scared to play a competitive game with Kazuma, he always wears that scary, step-the-****-up-its-time-to-die expression! XD

  • Learii

    i need   this

  • Guest

    I’ll leave this here

  • OMG!  Are those legit 3D backgrounds? that’s be a first on a home console!
