Demon Gaze Has Half-Robot Demons, A Little Bit Of Dating Sim In It

By Spencer . October 24, 2012 . 11:35am

Kadokawa Games and Students of the Round maker Experience are working on a new dungeon crawler for PlayStation Vita. Demon Gaze puts you in the shoes of Oz, an amnesiac lad who has a magic eye that makes him a demon gazer. Demons in Demon Gaze aren’t hellspawn in this game, they’re half-machine life forms on a rampage. Famitsu has a look at two demons, Comet and Mars, which can transform when they activate rampage mode.

Players delve into the dungeons of Mislid and return to town with treasures. You can use these to strengthen your party and pay rent. The hero and other adventurers stay at the Dragon Princess. This is where you rest and mingle with other people living there. If you talk to them you might see "heart pounding" scenes. Fran Pendor is the head bartender in the inn and she has a secret mission.

Famitsu teases that some not safe for work things can happen between you and Fran.

*sigh*  It’s not like I’ll write it off because of this, but I’d really like a moratorium on amnesiac heroes in JRPGs.  And… everything else, really.  It’s almost always a lazy way of hiding some past event(s), instead of writing a character meaningfully shaped by his or her past and introducing the player to them.  Lost Odyssey is the only game I can think of where I didn’t end up wishing they’d done otherwise, and even then it’s more because the writing in A Thousand Years of Dreams was stellar than anything else.

If amnesia were half as common in the general population as it is in JRPG heroes, I’d meet a new one every week.  So hackneyed. :/

Edit: I will say I like the art, though.

  • Looks nice. I hope it gazes it’s way over for a localization. =^_^=

  • Z3

    I love the art
The UI also seems to be import-friendly
Vita’s also getting its fair share of games with NSFW content

  • *looks at Famitsu page*

…I want to see Oz in a bed half-naked.

  • Barrit

I really dislike first-person view in RPGs, but the art really has my attention. It looks very nice!

  • I like the artwork, and I hope it gets localized because I whant to play my vita more(which I’m sure I’ll find plenty of chances in 2013)

  • Having dating sim features makes it GOTY material.

  • XYZ_JolteonZ980

THe art looks nice for the characters, actually the character designs looks really familiar to something else but I cant put my name on it. Would get if localized, and his eye reminds me of Rikkas from Crazy Delusional Adolescents with Chuu (ainme).

  • SprintsMcGee

Hmm, I’ll have to keep this game on my radar. Looks interesting.

  • XiaomuArisu

    Saw NSFW pic…..
    (yes I am a perv)

  • I would like this to be localized, with LEs and whatnot. I’m a sucker for first-person RPGs.

  • ThatAzure

Looks interesting; hope it can make it over here :D

  • Tianyu Wei

I wish this wasn’t First-Person :/ Never liked First-person RPGs… Kind of waste to not see such good art in action… If someone came up with these awesome art, I’d think they would let you see them move ;x

I’ve started to not care anymore about fanservice/moe stuff in my games, I just want them to be fun. Lots of these Japanese games get the art style and character design perfectly, but turn out to be borefests in terms of gameplay. A recent example of this is Mugen Souls, and the art there isn’t even that appealing if you don’t like lolis. (btw I’m basing this on reviews and impressions I’ve read)

Well, anyway, I’m sticking out like a sore thumb here what with all the people who seem to be celebrating that yet another game from Japan has NSFW/moe stuff. It’s not like I’m entirely against the concept of fanservice in games, it’s just that after seeing Japan pump out so much ecchi/borderline hentai anime and games nowadays, it’s getting rather tiresome.

Another thing that I’ve come to hate about the anime/game industry of Japan is how predictable the dialogue and personalities of characters can be based on archetypes: honestly, the moment I spot a tsundere and she completely acts in line with my expectations, I just get so bored and tired with whatever anime/game she’s involved with. I’m not expecting developers/writers to make every character completely different and unique, just don’t make them plain-as-day photocopies from the stereotype book.

    DAT ART.
    So who’s the illustrator?
    I must know!

    • Is it not Arco Wada? I thought it was, anyway! Lovely art.

      • Kai2591

hmm I’m not familiar with Arco Wada….I’ll need to do research on that artist~

        • They did the Fate/Extra art.

Here’s a link to their blog if that helps:

          • Kai2591

Oh no wonder the art looks familiar…you’re right the art in Demon Gaze does remind me of Fate/Extra’s art…maybe the artist really is Arco Wada.

Thanks for sharing :) I just love hunting down good art and knowing the artist is absolutely essential!

So I see the abominal hell-centaur, that is also apparently a cybernetic rampaging organism, a being bred only for rage and murder, with manic sadism gleaming in it’s eyes…

And then the main character and party members look like they belong in Super Onsen-Peeking Rainbow Quest Gottedämmerung Farfalenia, until they bust out their half-demon form but… even then it feels like too little, too late.

Maybe I just jumped the gun. I saw that hellbeast up there and thought this could be a pretty interesting concept, some game where the main protagonist goes around in some grotesque world and is joined by other cyborgs who haven’t gone rampant and tries to hunt down others of their kin. Why? To save the world… or gain the rampagers powers, perhaps? It looked interesting in a way that the other art just doesn’t.

I will admit I like the way they seem to present actual technology as “magic” in the game, but the mood I get from the enemy art and teh character art is just so… dissonant. They clash, and not in an interesting way.

I like the theme of the game I have to say……I might be buying a Vita much sooner than I otherwise intended at this rate
