Fire Emblem: Awakening’s Sunny Beach DLC Level Warms Up Players In November

By Spencer . October 25, 2012 . 1:28pm

imageNintendo of America just announced Fire Emblem: Awakening will be released in the first part of 2013 so it might be awhile before you get to play "Summer Bonds." This downloadable mission is scheduled to come out in Japan on November 1.

Anna, who is a merchant in Fire Emblem: Awakening, wants to thank Chrom for rescuing her and invites him to a beach. Then enemies show up and spoil the party. Chrom, Tiamo, Sallya, and Guire will change into swimwear for this map. There is also a special conversation with My Unit, the Fire Emblem: Awakening character that is supposed to represent you. Summer Bonds will cost 200 yen ($2.50) on the Nintendo eShop.

Otherwise known as “Fanservice Episode” for many.

    • Prinnydoom

And what an effective episode it shall be ^________^

  • Arrei

    Wait a sec…

At this rate… isn’t fairly likely that the American release of the summer episode would actually fall in Summer 2013?

  • MrJechgo

Aside from wanting this to be available to the English version, am I the only one who’s asking for a gallery mode ? The artworks look really good, and the characters from previous FE games are getting neat new artworks for Awakening, which I’d like to see in detail ^^

    • Kevin Tan

NOA says all DLC will be available for us too, so you’ll get your swimsuits.

  • Manny Being Manny

Remember when every JRPG didn’t have to put in fanservice?

I do and it sucked. Its better now.

    • Göran Isacson

I hear you man. I still have nightmares about the days of Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy 6 and *shudder* Chrono Trigger. BOY am I glad those days of neverending terror and suffering are over.

      • Kevin Tan

At least the DLC is optional and not a required part of the ridiculously huge main game, so you don’t have it unless you decided to spend money to download it.  Let’s not let this DLC dictate the quality of the game now…

           but…he wasn’t talking about DLC…

        • Göran Isacson

Yyyes, what Wayne down there said. I wasn’t commenting on the DLC, I was mostly just riffing on Ryan for his comment about fanservice.

          • Kevin Tan

            Sorry, I misunderstood. :o

          • Göran Isacson

Ah, that’s cool. T’is the internet, mistakes happen :)

Obligatory beach episode, now as a BD exclusive (Those who get it, get it)

  • Budgiecat

I’m not too thrilled about the change in art direction really….

    • raymk

A lot of people never are thats how you know when you have fanboy inside of you.  From FE1 to FE now I’ve seen people complain about the artwork change from before the game was even brought to the west.  People don’t cope well to change sometimes, this games problem isn’t the art direction really its some characters that just don’t fit it.

Also that said the fan-service is sometimes things that can alter opinion and i’m sure thats what you people are really mad about.

      • Budgiecat

lol nice assumption there pal. I’ve never been a “fanboy” of Fire Emblem games. I’ve never loyally followed the series nor have I ever made any fan fiction, dressed up in FE cosplay, visited any FE specific forums daily, argued passionatly about any of the games, etc etc.
I just appreciated the artstyle they had before on the last two Wii games I played as well as the look of the characters on the DS game which all had a consistency to them.
To me, a “fanboy” would someone who quickly defends anything on a game series no matter the changes and is quick to insinuate or make presumptions (the DLC matter which I never even addressed for example. Which I couldn’t care less on btw) on other people’s opinions.
A cheerleader if you will. If someone has an opinion on a game, that doesn’t make them a “fanboy”. It’s simply…an opinion. Don’t know where you got that definition from. Congrats though on your 3 likes from presumably some other “fanboys”…

  • Mnstrzero00

The new artist is the same guy who did the art for No More Heroes and I usually love his stuff. I even have one of his art books but I’m not feeling a lot of these characters.

    • raymk

Its about half in half for me,like almost all the FE games.  The thing this time is that all the characters aren’t wearing the same clothes in the same class for the artwork.  That said this artwork thing has been beaten like a dead horse for as long as this has been known people should be over it by now.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

It is nice that the male also had their own share of swimsuits costume.^_^ The last thing we need for FE is sexist problem lol.^_^
