Namco Bandai Will Act As An External Developer And Make More Social Games

By Spencer . November 5, 2012 . 2:24pm

talesofcard_1Before Namco and Bandai merged, Bandai always outsourced video game development. Now, Bandai Namco Games is accepting development contracts.

Their latest financial briefing states Bandai Namco Games will develop another company’s strong titles. Nintendo and Namco Bandai already announced they are working on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Since this is a general statement it sounds like going forward Namco Bandai will accept other contracts too. Perhaps, we’ll see Final Fantasy by the Tales team someday?

They also plan to spinoff their own titles into social games. Namco Bandai has a number of social games in the works like Sword Art Online: End World, Super Robot Taisen Card Chronicle, Tales of Kizna, and Tales of Card Evolve.

    boo to the social stuff

Social games are pretty fun and a nice little diversion for people that don’t have hours to waste on gaming. If you don’t like them you don’t have to play them, stop dissing on stop just because you don’t like it.

      • Nee Nee

        I will rephrase.
Boo to the thousands of new social stuff coming out every week.

          bingo.

  • Just Tim

What an ironic read, the way I see it.

Regardless, I hope Namco Bandai would allow outside groups to port their plethora of Japan-onlies to Android and iOS.

I’d SOOOOOOOO love to play that Super Robot Taisen card game T___T

“Perhaps we’ll see Final Fantasy by the Tales team someday?”

Knowing SE, that will never happen. At least not for the main, numbered games.

    • Lele Mett

It will be the End of FF it does.

  • Spirit Macardi

This is rich. Namco is going to work on games for other people, despite having numerous series that they’ve abandoned themselves?

It should be going the opposite way; let other companies develop Namco properties. I’m sure there’s studios that would love to resurrect Klonoa, Mappy, Tower of Druaga, and many more titles that Namco has ignored for years.

    • Badr Alomair

Well, if they open that door (and I hope they do), then there’s a high chance that most of these studios would be western, which well, you know how that is generally received to some fans.

Personally, I don’t mind. I enjoyed all 3 recent Bionic Commando games and the recent Rocket Knight sequel. And I really really want a new Klonoa.

Is it the optimal situation? No, I prefer the original teams for each franchise would make their own new iterations. But we can’t always have what we want.

oh namco why no love for facebook

Social games blow majorly. Do not want.

Final Fantasy by the Tales Team? That would be interesting.

Final Fantasy by the Tales team would be the end of Final Fantasy. TOO Much anime. ARGh Final Fantasy is unique you can’t find another game like it. Just the thought of the tales of games toching it makes me sick. The tales games are great for some people which is why they are called niche by game reveiwers. But FF’s fanbase would die quickly if they started “animeing up” final fantasy. FF has great STORIES. What Tales game as ever had a great story? One that is outstanding that will have people talking about it for years liek FF 7, 6, 4, and 10? What Tales game has ever had breath taking graphics like 13?Think about what Versus would look like if it was made by the Tales team? It wouldn’t on everyone’s mine then.

Look, Sqaure has something the Namco does not, thats why they are so famous not just in Japan like Tales, but ALL OVER the world. And this is coming from a fan who plays Tales and FF(1-13). KEEP TALES AWAY FROM MY FINAL FANTASY!

I can’t say keep FF away from tales becuase they have taken so many things from FF the Tales would be a different game without FF.(Hell..Tales needs more FF)

    Good for Namco :)
    Moving forward.
But … So when is Klonoa 3 for WiiU coming out ?
Thought I heard something about it earlier this year …

    • Just Tim

Looks like they’re gonna use this to fund in-house projects, especially when license cash cows Dragonball and Naruto have expiration dates.

    • Samurai Don

It’s very unlikely that we will see a Klonoa 3 since the Wii remake of Klonoa bombed in sales.

Of course half of the blame falls with Nintendo for allowing so many shovelware game which meant that Klonoa got buried.

  • Elvick

I highly doubt that Square Enix would let Namco develop a Final Fantasy. Although, a Tales x Final Fantasy game would be sweet… and Namco could co-develop or something.

I’m more annoyed at the fact that Bandai seems to still have a lock on some IPs which they no longer localize. ):

Set those suckers free… I don’t really care if they develop social games. They’ll probably suck. As most do. They should rename the games to, “Create a separate list of people on your friends list to progress games”.

  • Yuriangels

do social games make a lot of money? I just asking because I see a lot of company  stating to make a lot of them.  (<_<)

  • Mizu D

Unsurprising coming from Namco. They did make Starfox Assault for GC and Mario Kart GP in the arcade. Heck Nintendo often contract 3rd party for their license, we all remember fondly the Capcom Zelda Oracle and the Sega Fzero GX games.

We already seen in the past publishing deal too, like EA assisting Square Soft for releasing FF game (heck whenever I boot FF9 lately to play, i still see Eletronic Arts name creep ou in the beginning…) or Square Soft publishing Capcom Breath of Fire 1.
