By Spencer . November 6, 2012 . 7:10pm

Namco Bandai released the first trailer for Tales of Hearts R. This re-imagining has full 3D graphics and a brand new characters, Calcedony Arkham. Tales of Hearts R has anime style cutscenes too. Remember when Namco Bandai experimented with a CG movie version? Yeah, that didn’t last long.

Tales of Hearts R will be released on PlayStation Vita in spring 2013.

  • Whoa… my Heart for some reason was just racing when listening to the to the trailer…

    • Hinataharem

      *bad pun incoming*

Thanks for telling us the Tale of your heart

  • But, Calcedony on the original game… How will that work? D:

    • sd28

he does jion you in the ds version but not as a playable character

      • I mean… after certain scene… that is spoiler. xDD He did indeed joined and only appeared on skits. :3

  • I know I want IT!!!

  • Sheimi12

I bought the DS version on a whim….

I couldn’t read a lick of it and it was still one of my favorite DS games!

  • WingsOfEternity

Calcedony isn’t a new character, he is a rival to Shing throughout the majority of the game until the last fight with him as his full team(which was one of the most interesting Tales boss battles ever) in which defeating him your party and his reach some sort of mutual agreement. (idk japanese) I’m assuming they’ll change it so he joins the party after that battle.

    • raymk

I think they mean he’s new in that he’s playable now, besides that the guy from tales of innocence should be in this game as well and he would count as new to.

    • He’ll probably work like Flynn from ToVPS3

  • refrain

No TP using! YES! FACK YES!

  • Curan_Altea

It’s looking pretty good. Very different from DS version, but that’s ok/expected. Obligatory hope it gets localized.

  • I hope this time they will go all out for the ending. I really hate how they cut the most important part in the ending for the ds version.

    • s07195

Haha, I know what you mean. That last conversation between the male and female leads…which pans up to the sky before he finishes his sentence. Yeah, in a way you could say that was a major troll moment.

      • Erm yeah… telling us the setup of the FINAL SCENE IN THE GAME would rank pretty high on the spoiler scale.

        • s07195

Wasn’t sure if that was the scene being referred to, that’s all. :S

  • IshimaruKaito

who’s importing this! *sticks out thumbs* *points to self* THIS GUY!!!!!!!

    • refrain

I imported Innocence R so of course I’ll import this too!

      • IshimaruKaito

i was gnna import that one…do you speak japanese? cuz i just dont wnna gt lost in it lol…is it straight forward?

        • refrain

I can speak japanese a little. The story of Innocence is not really that complicated. You can finish the game with out any japanese knowledge at all.

    • I have to admit I’m pretty tempted…

Edit: Hey, my icon’s gone. O.o

  • s07195

Although it’s not the usual TP system as we can see from the video that the blue meter never goes down, it seems that other than the guage at the side (looks like an OVL meter to me…) nothing else seems to go down when you attack, not even those numbers below the character faces. So does that mean… unlimited attack usage?! (Yeah, right.)

Or perhaps this is only because the game is halfway done, and this is the first footage shown.

  • SprintsMcGee

I wanna import this so badly, but I also don’t want to buy only to find out that it will be localized in the future. CONUNDRUM!

    • IshimaruKaito

      my biggest fear of importing

      •  I think it’s pretty safe to assume it won’t be released in the west…if Tales of Innocence R wasn’t, I don’t see this happening anytime soon with this one.

Unless the Vita starts packing a serious punch in the west (sales wise), it just isn’t economically viable for NB to go ahead and port this one over.

I really hope I’m wrong about this ;_; I’d do whatever I could to support a western release for these two, just like I did with Abyss and Graces F and Xillia and whatever Tales of game NB decides to release in the west. But as it stands, I think we don’t have much of a chance, unfortunately.

        • I think its better not to assume anything, mainly because of the very large importing cost and stranger things have happened(“better safe than sorry” as they say)

not to mention Baba whants us to play hearts, so I think the localization of hearts(and possibly innocence) hinges on xillia’s sales.

          • xavier axol

and here’s where we come in, if you want more tales games in the future then you know what to do. jrpgs are coming back! with ninokuni and tales of xillia, so is up to us to show publisher that we want these types of games.

          •  Don’t get me wrong please, I would LOVE to see this one, Innocence R and even Tempest R (which I’m sure will be announced eventually) being released in the west.

It’s just that I recall reading elsewhere that NB felt heavily discouraged about releasing these games in the west because the Vita was underperforming, in their opinion (well, and in mine at least). That is why I have a hard time believing we’ll ever see these games in english, as much as I would love to play them in english.

I think I really should just go ahead and get ready to import.

          • I understand where your coming from, I just think it would be more prudent to wait for awhile before importing, mosty because of the yen to dollar ratio.

I mean if you had imported only for it to be announced for the west a few weeks later, than thats about 70 to 80 dollars down the drain(and thats not factoring in the shipping cost)

I’m a very cautious person when it comes to money, If I even think theres a slight chance I won’t do it.

You make a great point in your statement but this is just part of my personality.

  • Aww, no CG edition this time?? D:

    • sd28

      thank god for that

  • SirTeffy

Wellp, that’s confirmation that they’re ditching the best 2D Tales fighting system ever in favor of THREE DEE BATTULS.

    • raymk

Nope the best system was TODR, TOH battle system actually sucked ass, it was very fun though :D.

      • Benny Tormoes

TOH’s battle system is a streamlined version of Destiny R’s isnt it?

        • sd28

          it is

sadly they added damage break to make it less broken but that ruined most ground combos

        • raymk

Yes except the game was actually more broken and easy in TOH.

    • Ladius

I don’t see what is wrong with this, considering this is a remake and Namco Tales Studio has proven they can adapt their 2D battle systems’ ideas to 3D with Graces. It isn’t like you can’t go back to the original, and I don’t see what’s wrong with remakes providing different perspectives on their source material.
Now, if it was a bad 3D battle system I could see your point, but I think no one can make that kind of judgement at the moment, and they’re even trying to preserve some of the original’s key traits like the emphasis on aerial combos.

What’s amusing is that I can see some fans being all “lol, Scamco is so lazy” if Namco had kept the original 2D battle system for this version… as usual, I think part of the Tales fanbase’s attitude is one of the biggest hurdles for the series’ success (or simply for its survival) in the west.

      • I’m just disappointed that they ditched the 2D battle system for a 3D battle system that seems very similar to Graces’ or Abyss’. The 2D battle system was fun as well. Besides, it kinda feels like some sort of ‘message’, as if Namdai decides to move away from 2D battle systems in favour of only 3D (I mean, I wonder why they decided to make it 3D anyway). I like variety, that’s all.

        • raymk

The 2D tales game don’t sell though, the 3D games barely sell as it is either.  Not to mention that 2d takes a a little longer to do with tales and if it doesn’t do well thats more money down the drain.  If they do decide to do a 2d tales game it’ll probably be a digital download only game which I wouldn’t mind.

        • Masengan

Hmm that makes me think of Tales of Legendia which wasn’t that popular and definitely didn’t have a battle system that had me begging for a 2nd playthrough.

  • GreekGod88

I hope it comes to europe too

  • Yuriangels

shut up and take my money!!!

  • Demeanor

DAT Hi Ougi teaser!!!! I hate them!!!! >_>   lol XD
Can’t wait for more news on this!

Kore ga watashi no – Satsugeki Bukouken!!! <333   ^ ^

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    Not bad

  • Masengan

That blue armored guy that reminds me of some sort of octopus or squid is probably the weirdest Tales character I’ve seen. I think if they put him on a poll and asked me if he were a Tales character I would’ve definitely said no.

  • Elvick

    I want it. ):

  • Chon Pak

Why not release it for the 3DS as well? Why?! The original was on the DS!
Man, I want to play this game, but I don’t want to get an Vita. Seriously, stop favoring Sony already. There are already millions of Tales games on that. Move damn on to another system.
