Elminage Original Quietly Crawls Onto PSP Next Week

By Spencer . November 15, 2012 . 3:30pm

Oh, by the way Elminage Original is coming out on November 20 as a PlayStation Network download. Elminage Original is a first person dungeon crawler with a fantasy setting. Considering UFO Interactive is dropping this on PSN without any fanfare this *might* be the first time you’re hearing about the game.

UFO Interactive didn’t even notify us about the trailer or release date. Credit there goes to Lili, thanks for the e-mail! If Elminage Original sells somehow there is a whole series UFO Interactive could localize like Elminage Gothic and a dungeon crawler where you play as a high school student that travels to feudal Japan.

Well at least i have a reason to dust off my psp now.

  • I think there’s a reason this game’s getting released with no prior announcement…

    • Kunio_kun

      Such as?

      • The presentation’s poor, the gameplay doesn’t look fun, the premise is bland… really?  You can’t see all of that?

        • David Bruno

This trailer only scratches the surface of the gameplay. It doesn’t show off any of the actual dungeon crawling/movement, maps, customization, etc. Also, Elminage was originally released on the PS2 and Elminage keeps that traditional RPG look and feel. Some like it, some don’t. Personally, I like it. Brings me back to the old-school games like Shadowgate, and Wizardry.

  • Blesmi

Honestly I think they would have been better off localizing Elminage III instead of Original, since honestly it has a lot more polish than the first game. Also I wonder how much they’re going to charge for this. I’d imagine $20 but even at that price…

    • David Bruno

It won’t be $20. I can assure you.

      • Peeka Chu

        $14.99 probably.

  • TheTimeMage

I might get this. I have been thinking about trying a dungeon crawler and this one looks good. Wizardry for PS3 was $15 so I’m hoping this is as well.

  • David Bruno

Whoa, there’s a Wizardry on PS3?! I didn’t even know that. And yes, it’s a great time to get into dungeon crawlers. They are steadily making a comeback. :)

  • David Bruno

Double post. Sorry. Please delete. :)

  • Rol

So getting this on my Vita next week….

    • Peeka Chu

Well unless its been confirmed to work from the get-go, this will be like every other PSP game I’ve bought for the Vita so far (with the exception of Ragnarok Tactics), where you have to wait 2-3 weeks for compatibility.

  • Foryth

I was wondering when this was coming out.  I’ll definitely be supporting it since I love first person dungeon crawlers, but my plate is already more than full so I have no idea when I’ll actualy get to play it.

  • Barrylocke89

Seeing as I’m (still) waiting for the 3DS version of Unchained Blades to come out in the west, I might check this out instead.

    • cj_iwakura

You could just buy the perfectly servicable PSP version like the other ten of us.

      • Barrylocke89

I considered it, but the 3DS version looks to be better in most ways and I still have a hefty backlog in the way, not to mention RL being especially brutal over the past few months. I can wait.

  • Whoa so fast.  I hope the price is good.
This one lets you customize the party pictures right doesn’t it?

  • Learii

first person rpg is not my game so no thx

    • Budgiecat

These games try to reach out to that old school hardcore rpg fanbase which is small and niche but out there. Much like the “Otome” (girls romance) Adventure genre for games like Hakuoki that was localized. Not much in terms of innovation on a visual or technical scale since they pride themselves on keeping it old school. Wizardry, Dark Spire, SMT (the older ones), Class of Heroes, Unchained Blades REXX, Etrian Odyssey etc

      • David Bruno

        You know your stuff. :3
Yeah, Otomedius Excellent was awesome and is a good example of this. Like, I love shmups and I enjoy anime so that was a total win for me, even if it wasn’t the greatest shooter out there. I was just happy to show my support by pre-ordering and buying the game day one! I’m hoping that Elminage finds its audience who appreciate it.

  • UMD or bust! ;)

  • xxx128

Umm yeah… download… no thank you.

  • Bloodios

Heaven!!! Just when I’ve given up on seeing any Elminage every being localized…

I’ll buy whatever they have to offer, thank you very much. Sure hope they localize the rest of them, too. One can never have too many dungeon-crawlers.

  • ragingmerifes

So there will be a good year-end launch, since Ragnarok Tactics made us all regret waiting for it.
But I need to finish Unchained Blades before this.

  • Jeremy Barnes

I’ll be buying it tomorrow. If for nothing else than to support more games making it over.
