Gradius And Other TurboGrafx-16 Games Are PlayStation Plus Freebies In Japan

By Spencer . November 21, 2012 . 11:02pm

imageJapan’s instant game library includes two TurboGrafx-16 titles this month. If you have PlayStation Plus tied to a Japanese PSN account you’ll get New Adventure Island and Gradius. That’s cool, but probably not a reason to sign up for the service in Japan. Right now, the selection of games is rather lacking compared to North America and Europe.

The other PlayStation Plus titles for Japan are:

Fatal Fury

Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis version)

Crazy Taxi Double Punch

LocoRoco Cocoreccho

Ape Quest

God of War HD & God of War II HD

Everynya’s Putter Golf

Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty

OMG! how can they even have a subscriber in Japan?

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

      Lol? Why not?

Japan doesn’t really care about digital distribution so SoJ has never really bothered with Playstation Plus. They just have a lineup since the other territories do as well but they don’t go out of their way to get good stuff.

i want to play Gradius i miss that game

  • What’s this? Turbografx-16 games on the PS3? How long have they been there, and are they available elsewhere?

    • AweOfShe

I’m not sure how long they’ve had ’em on, but I recall seeing all the PC-E Ys games awhile back.

Not sure about availability elsewhere though. Most likely not.

They’ve been on the Japanese PSN for years, and they’ve been up on the US PSN for at least a year, possibly Europe as well. ¬†Only problem is outside of Japan the Turbografx-16 games available on PSN are pretty much all Hudson first-party titles.

They work on PSP and Vita also, with the same purchase.

Damn. I wanted Sumioni. Like the only game I wanted from Plus, since there’s no way I’ll buy it digital only for $20. I knew most of what they added in NA would be stuff I owned though, and it was. Only thing that I didn’t own, was solely because it hadn’t released until they gave it away. I was planning on buying it.

Oh well. No Sumioni for me. Until it goes on sale, or is given free eventually in NA.

Japan doesn’t get crap though. Lawdy. I need to remember this when I see people whine about what NA gets. “We could be getting what Japan gets!” :D
