Dragon Slayer X Ys Crossover Coming Thanks To Namco Bandai

By Spencer . November 26, 2012 . 5:24pm

Falcom and Namco Bandai are working together on a new Dragon Slayer game for Japan. Dragon Slayer: Warriors of the Guided Crown is a dungeon crawler with social elements. When you find a crown you can summon a boss. Friends can cooperate with players to defeat it and split the spoils.

Players can get equipment to dress their character up like Adol, Adol from Ys Celceta, Karna, Feena, and other characters.

Dragon Slayer: Warriors of the Guided Crown also has crossover bosses like Melldreybie from Ys Seven and Dark Fact from Ys I & II Chronicles.

Namco Bandai will release the game for free on iOS in mid-December. An Android version will be available this winter. Dragon Slayer: Warriors of the Guided Crown won’t cost a single yen to download, it’s funded by virtual item sales.

wtf, this isnt the dragon slayer the fans wanted

    • shion16

At least not the dragon slayer that Fairy Tail fans wanted

  • MrSirFeatherFang

Pixelated Carna! Well at least her newer look

  • So I take it Ys beat Sora no Kiseki?

    • As Ys has been going on far longer, it probably is more popular.

The irony, however, is that Legend of Heroes 1 was Dragon Slayer 6, while Ys has no relation to the series.

      • Takuma Popper

This is where you’re wrong, though it’s not surprise to think that, the Kiseki series has actually been the big flagship selling for Falcom, each Kiseki title has outsold each Ys that has come out. Ao no Kiseki and Zero no Kiseki has given falcom huge profit. This is why we’ve seen a huge influx of Kiseki games lately (Zero, Ao, Nayuta, and now Zero Evolution including a new Kiseki game being announced in two weeks time.) Ys is more popular in the east obviously but in the West Kiseki is Falcom’s big love child with Ys following right behind.

I could’ve sworn Ys was most popular outside Japan and Tits was most popular in Japan, hmm.

        • But as of now there’s only been one Kiseki game in the west…We hardly ever get any Falcom games anyway.

I can only imagine the kind of douchey charge Spencer gets out of these intentionally vague headlines, much in the same way I imagine Artefact does on Sankaku Complex.

???? Douchey charge? vague headlines? The title is exactly all about the game here.

    • He said the crossover is coming because the concept is being made for Japan for the first time. Did you seriously think a crossover nobody has heard of before will come in English right off the bat? Also, if you read the flavor text right below the title on the main page (or the RSS feed), you can confirm immediately that it’s for Japan. So if there’s any blame to be had, I don’t think it’s on Spencer.

Besides, the site reports about games from Japan; not strictly about games from Japan that are bound for localization.

  • Isn’t that what Ys vs Sora no Kiseki was? I thought the Kiseki games were Dragon Slayer titles

(Also since they’re including classic Adol I’d looove to see them do classic Karna/Duren too)

  • Grenalie

Well at least you can dress as the better designed Adol.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

A new Dragon Slayer title and it is a social game.T_T First Record of Lodoss Wars now this.T_T
This kinda makes me think that whether social games really brought a crazy amount of profit compared to at least portable release or not here.T_T

Yay freemium… I don’t know why people like the illusion of a free game. I’d rather just pay for something and avoid all the money grubbing cash grabs that usually make the game less fun if you don’t waste money on.

Title was misleading to me. Thought this meant it was getting localization.

    • SerendipityX

Freemium is the reason why I stay away from certain games I normally would have paid the full asking price on. Funny thing, it’s actually saving me money to spend on other stuff.

  • GH

Ys vs Sora no Kiseki was actually running on a modified Ys 7 engine, and yeah, they qualify as “Dragon Slayers” in the vague sense of the term. But why did they waste money on this instead of making, you know, a good game? Eventually, the social game fad will die (as you can see, 60% of the Iphone developers are not returning any profit) and these games won’t have any content worthy for a re-release/remake.

  • CirnoLakes

I have an Android phone. Is there any way for me to get this?

  • brian

    Prolly not.
