How To Play Final Fantasy Artniks, The New Final Fantasy Crossover Game

By Spencer . December 3, 2012 . 2:15am

ffartWe first learned about Final Fantasy Artniks under its temporary title Final Fantasy X GREE. Square Enix and social game maker GREE just released the title, which covers (surprisingly!) even more Final Fantasy games than Dissidia. You’ll see characters… well cards representing characters… from Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy Type-0, and even Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates.

Final Fantasy Artniks has quests and battles. You start the game by selecting a main card, maybe Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII or a grown up Hope Estheim from Final Fantasy XIII-2. Rare cards have more powerful abilities.

You can also use an equipment card which enhances all of the characters in your party. The Chicken Knife from Final Fantasy V and Arhat’s Gi from Final Fantasy XI are items in Final Fantasy Artniks. Defeating small fry enemies fills up a meter and when it’s full you trigger burst mode, which makes treasure chests appear.

Final Fantasy Artdinks has wanted enemies to hunt like the Ochu and Kefka from Final Fantasy VI. You need to work with other players to take these foes down and if you succeed you can get a bonus like this rare Umaro card.

You can use your custom deck of heroes and Chicken Knives to fight another player. The winner gets ranking points that go towards the game’s leaderboard and Mog Medals which can be used to play a mini-game.

Final Fantasy Artdinks is available now.

  • At least Type 0 gets some form of recognition.

    • OmegaShenron

      but not what we want

  • Curan_Altea

I doubt I’ll ever play this, but if Machina is in it I may be swayed…..

  • disqus_mqAQgo6KSp

and how do we play this game exactly? can’t find it with the gree app in the ios market

    • yellowmage

Maybe because it hasn’t been translated yet! (Assuming it will be at all.)

    • Christian Wright

it’s region locked. still trying to find a way around it

  • karasuKumo

I like the idea behind it but it might have been a good idea to do some new artwork for it. Not that this artwork is bad, I’ve just seen it too often.

Personally I’m hoping for a third Dissidia in the future on Vita/PS3, that would be amazing.

  • though square it’s not the only one making social game based on it’s most popular IP how long they gonna keep rehash old glory?

  • YourAshyAss_Elbows

all gree games are terrible. imo.

    • Luna Kazemaru

      Oh really you played them.

      • YourAshyAss_Elbows

…Like I’d want to sit on a phone and play mediocracy when there is an openly available FF3-6, 9, Dissidia, and many more in my reach.

  • malek86

I don’t remember much about Umaro because I usually didn’t bother getting him, but I don’t think he looked like a faceless pink guy with Cecil hair.

  • OatMatadoQuatro

“which covers (surprisingly!) even more Final Fantasy games than Dissidia.”

Not so surprising cos they didn’t need to design the characters or making new stuff about them

  • Budgiecat

Why is everything “cards” with these social games?

    • Christian Wright

check out guardian cross and you’ll see why :P

  • Funny thing is that they’re just reusing the card art from the Japanese Final Fantasy trading card game, though not the rulesets. Still, kind of neat, I suppose — these card-based RPGs have become pretty popular on the GREE platform. I’m more interested in Final Fantasy Airship Brigade, though.

  • Exactly how do we download the app? I got a japanese itunes account, but i cant find it

  • Exactly HOW do we download the app, or play the game. I have a Japanese iTunes account, but I couldn’t find it in the app store.

  • Dexward

I wish there was uniformity when it comes to the artwork instead of different designs and quality.

  • komiko12

    Rare Umaro card? I’ll pass.
    LOL :D

  • Lazulis

Can’t they at least stick to just 2D art or 3D art for the cards? Sometimes different art styles can work together, but I don’t see it working with these cards…

Speaking of art styles, is any of Amano’s art going to be used? Most of what I’ve seen are Dissidia…

  • Haseyo

Not diggin’ the card stuff too much. As if we’re gonna get this anyway.
