Players That Die In Soul Sacrifice Live On As Ghosts

By Spencer . December 3, 2012 . 4:10pm

8232253345_70f0f01b2f_hWhen you sacrifice yourself to save your friends in Soul Sacrifice the game isn’t exactly over. Dead players become ghosts that can observe the battlefield. You can see the status of enemies and allies as a ghost. Players can also strengthen allied players and weaken monsters by touching them on screen. So, when you die you’re kind of like Rise from Persona 4: Golden.

Comcept founder Keiji Inafune also talked about the Leviathan, a monster borne out of jealousy and a love for crocodiles. Siliconera spoke to Inafune earlier about Soul Sacrifice and we talked about the concept of avatars sacrificing themselves for the good of the group. The good news  is you won’t have to sit out of the game when you turn your spinal cord into a sword.

ah that’s good, glad to see that there is a system to do something after death

    • natchu96

I guess properly coordinated online play strategies may actually include one of the members dying in some way on purpose (for a spinal chord, so someone else can be more badass too? :D) so he can get a better look of the place and call shots.

  • Jason A

Game looks interesting, but kinda looks like a Monster hunter clone, and I very much dislike monster hunter. Oh well, hopefully the Japanese will eat it up and give the vita some success.

    • refrain

Yeah, every game that running around, using weapon to kill monster is a monster hunter’s clone. Cool logic you had there.

    • Domii

Monster Hunter clone? This game looks nothing like MH, it looks more like the Souls series(never mind the “Soul” in the title). And we all know MH has nothing on From Soft’s masterpieces.

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

I would not call them clone here. But taking inspiration from MH? Yes. That would be the correct term here as it seems InafKing is trying hard to add more things to differentiate this game with normal hunting style games.

    • Fango

I was a huge fan of Monster Hunter, but this game looks even better.

    • Syn

I dont know what monster hunter game youre talking about, but whichever version looks just like soul sacrifice, please provide the link so I can get it *sarcasm* Seriously though, apart from it being a team of people hunting SOMETHING, the similarities end there( unless theres a way I can rip out my characters spine and use it to kill a Rajang in MH T_T )

  • Domii

Most anticipated game next year. Thank god I now have a Vita. P4G and my huge backlog should keep me entertain till then.

  • Raze

Die but still can help other people…

  • Elvick

I still hope that there’s a purpose to actually saving someone. I know having them there is something, but I don’t think it would be enough to forgo sacrificing your team mate for some powerful attack instead.

I doubt being a Ghost is as fun as being alive. At least you’re not just stuck with a game over screen or watching your team do whatever though. So that’s good.

  • Dexward

It would be funny if you have teammates that look like Cloud, Zack, and Aerith with Zack and Aerith as ghosts supporting Cloud.

    • Xerain

But before that, Aerith can eviscerate herself and giver her intestines to Zack to use as a whip.

  • Xerain

So it’s kind of like Dark Souls + Monster Hunter + Super Mario Bros. on the Wii.

    • Robert Leonardi

its on vita, but why S Mario Bros ?

      • Because in the Mario games that are on the Wii a second player can help the first player indirectly instead of playing along side him. This game is one of the reasons why I bought a Vita, so I certainly don’t think it’s on the Wii.

        • Robert Leonardi

ah the new mario bros ? i gotcha now

    • Syn

Really, blatantly trying to start a flame like is just silly, just one look and you can tell this is no Wii game(graphic wise) and it says Vita at the end of the article(and every other article). Also, how the heck is super smash……. youre Trolling, thats what this is. You should know better having posted over 300 comments here.

      • SerendipityX

lol Dude, what part of this a troll post? All @Xerain:disqus is saying that it has elements from those three games.

      • How is the second player invisibly helping the first player not exactly like the Mario games that are on the Wii? The period is proper abbreviation of Mario Bros., not the end of a sentence.

Though I’ve never played one, I’ve heard those Mario games were quite good. The problem is I didn’t know whether it has New Super Mario Bros. or Mario Galaxy that had the assist function, and vaguely remembered both have some form of it. Thus I referred to both the New Super Mario Bros. and Mario Galaxy series jointly as “Mario Bros. on the Wii.”

    • Göran Isacson

Question, do you mean NEW Super Mario Bros? And if so, what aspects do you think are taken from there? That one player is a disembodied helping hand that puts platforms for the others inside the game?

      • That’s exactly what I meant. I haven’t experienced this feature first hand, but it sounds a lot like it.

        • Göran Isacson

Ah, that clarifies things. I wonder if this may turn into some kind of weird metagame with stuff like “one alive-three dead” runs, or something equally strange and silly.

  • ragingmerifes

Portable GOTY of 2013. Unless SMTIV is released, though.

  • Even in death……… =)

  • neetyneety

You know what, once I do get this game and get to play some multiplayer, I’ll try to be the helpful guy and just sacrifice my ass for the sake of the team. I mean, they’re actually making it seem like it’s a very worthwhile option, being able to help out your team like this.

  • I want this game…and I will get it..Just REALLY bad timing..March was made for Ultimate Monster Hunter Tri

  • I guess heroes never die, even after death.

  • Alexandra Cordes

That’s good news, since I will most likely sacrifice myself.
    …A lot.
