Konami Quietly Opened An Orange County Studio

By Spencer . December 10, 2012 . 3:00pm

koKonami opened two video game studios in southern California this year – Kojima Productions in Los Angeles and an Orange County development studio.

The OC division is working on mobile and social games like Boo Seeker, an augmented reality game for kids, Ice Pick Panic for Facebook. Tomm Hulett who worked on the Silent Hill games and Jaime Bencia producer on US titles like WireWay are leading Konami’s Orange County Studio.

Wait… Tomm Hulett? Huh, that’s a pretty big jump from the SH games. I wonder what’s up.

So I guess the penguin in the header thumbnail is for the facebook game?

My dreams of a penguin mobile game(perhaps a puzzle-ish game) are dashed…maybe I’ll just get penguin patrol… if that’s what it is called…>.>

Thank you for this news. Game studios are closer to home than I thought.

Holy crap I haven’t talked to eddie in forever.

Then again when BMS dumped the database a second time I kinda split. Hasn’t really been the same since, unfortunately. I hope eddie’s still doing all right, though.

One of the last things I read from the site around that time was an editorial, in which the writer BLAMED the fans as to why the rhythm game genre tanked (around late 2011); in reality, it’s for various reasons such as Kotick’s attempt to milk Guitar Hero to CoD levels, the obvious mismanagement, American ignorance, licensing issues, to name a few.

And he’s right – it did tank.

But as of late there’s been a bit of a resurgence…at least with people asking from simfiles of old. I’ve seen it on my YT vids and PMs every so often with people asking for me old stuff because they can’t find it. I guess all it took was major media backing off to get it back together.
