Mega Man 25th Anniversary Celebration Will Take Place Over A Year

By Ishaan . December 10, 2012 . 11:15am

This past weekend, Capcom announced Street Fighter X Mega Man as part of the Mega Man series’ 25th anniversary celebration. Following the announcement, some of Capcom’s fans took to the company forums to ask if there would be “more substantial” things to come on the 25th anniversary front.

Shortly thereafter, Capcom USA Senior Vice-President, Christian Svensson replied to this query in a forum post of his own, as he often does.

“I don’t know that there’s more substantial [things] for me to talk about but there’s a TON more things we have in the works, only some of which will be shared on December 17th,” Svensson stated in his post.

“There’s a whole year of things that will happen… you’re only going to hear about what’s happening fairly close to the start of the celebrations at first.”

Presumably, part of the 25th anniversary celebration will involve the release of more classic Mega Man games on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console. So far, only Mega Man: Dr. Wily’s Revenge for the Game Boy is available in the U.S. Meanwhile, Europe has the original NES Mega Man, with Mega Man 2 slated for release in Q1 2013. Japan, on the other hand, have Mega Man 1-6 on the 3DS Virtual Console.

  • I think…

*oglops, parasprites and other critters start populating the empty space*

    … I got nothing.

  • Godmars

A year which be known as – The Year of Tears….

    • TheRealMalek

Also known as the year of MML3

      • Also known as Complete. Global. Saturation.

  • AuraGuyChris

If there’s something I learned from Christian Svensson, is that whatever he says is most of the time pretty disappointing in the end.
    Vice-Presidents… GIVE US THE PRESIDENT.

    • Advol

Well after MH3U was announced, I’m willing to give Sven a little bit more faith.

      • SirTeffy

After Ace Attorney 5 was announced I gave him ALL OF MY FAITH.

  • SirRichard

Street Fighter X Mega Man getting official blessings and even being backed was a great start, but overall I’m not expecting too much. Probably a bunch of remix CDs or artbooks, maybe they’ll speed up the VC releases of the NES games.

  • Ephidiel

    where is my ZX sequel

ZXA left with a huge cliffhanger >__> damn you capcom tell Inti to make the next one

  • ZEROthefirst

Does that mean we’ll be getting more fan started games- err I mean good job Capcom.

  • Hoshi星

I expect a new Megaman game per month! Okay, maybe I’m asking too much but would be pretty great.

    • Kaihedgie

Why do you all ask for such unrealistic requests when it comes to Mega Man? Do you know how long it takes and how much it costs to make even one game?

      • SirTeffy

Clearly not long and not much since they had no problem scrapping 2 games shortly after announcing both with fully playable builds available…

        • Kaihedgie

Despite the fact that we were presented with what were alpha builds, not to mention the fact that games we see currently in development are vastly different from their finished counterparts? Some games are known to change gameplay differently, have different premises, change or remove content or even shift genres entirely. Who’s to say Legends 3 would have still been the same (if released) as it was when we first saw it?

And please stop with the whining about Legends 3. At this point all it does is annoy people rather than draw sympathy.

  • Juan Andrés Valencia

A PS Vita or 3DS Mega Man collection including 9 and 10 would be nice.

  • Jonathan Keycross

Just give me my Megaman X Ultimate Collection with the whole X series including the Xtreme and command mission games, for all platforms.

I still think these are great news though.

  • Wonder how many more games they’ll cancel to celebrate this momentous occasion?

  • YourAshyAss_Elbows

I can’t wait to see the MM fans start apologizing. I was okay with his hiatus, as I have most of his games lol

    • Elvick

      Why would MM fans apologize?

Even if there’s something worthy in this celebration, fans didn’t do anything wrong to apologize. Fans have every right to be pissed at how Capcom has been treating Mega Man. Them potentially improving that, doesn’t involve a fan apology.

If anything it’d be appreciation that they’re finally doing something good with MM.

That’s yet to be seen for this Mega Man fan. STREET FIGHTER x Mega Man and Xover aren’t cutting it for me.

It’ll take a lot to make up for cancelling a dream come true like Legends 3.

      • YourAshyAss_Elbows

We are going to get something nicer than what we expected. There will be apologetic fans. There will be good MM games. nuff said.
