Kagura Producer Hopes To Bring Kagura Burst To The West As A 3DS Download

By Spencer . December 13, 2012 . 1:06pm

Since fans have been asking about a Western release, we asked Senran Kagura producer Kenichiro Takaki if Marvelous AQL would work with Xseed to localize it or somehow bring it to the West.

“Of course, we’d like to release it overseas,” Takaki replied. “But, one of the most important things about the game it’s not just an action game, it’s also very sexualized. What we would like to do, when Nintendo further builds up their infrastructure for downloadable games, is release it as a downloadable title.”

While Senran Kagura: Crimson Burst has not been announced for North America or Europe, South Korea will get the game as a digital import via the eShop.

It’s interesting that Burst has an enhanced version of the first game as a bonus. Why did you want to add in the original Kagura?

Kenichiro Takaki, Producer: One of the reasons is there is an anime coming out on Japanese TV next year and we wanted people who haven’t experienced the game yet could get it. We also took feedback about the first game from fans and for fans who really enjoyed the first game we could give them a remastered version. Also, there were things I wanted to put in the original Kagura that I couldn’t because of time and resources.

What’s your favorite new feature for Senran Kagura Burst?

My favorite feature in this game is if you blow on the microphone on the 3DS it lifts the girls’ skirts up.

And… um… how have the fans reacted to this addition?

They’re like YEAH! They really love this feature and how the changing room which didn’t support 3D in the original, supports 3D in Burst.

Some of these features might not transfer over, but have you thought about releasing Kagura on Steam, as well?

Right now, we don’t have any plans to do that. One of the reasons is the art assets were designed specifically for the 3D features on the 3DS, so it wouldn’t be an easy port. But, if an opportunity presented itself, we’d like to try.

  • Hmm…. I need to go to a Konbini and get a 3DS card now…

  • “But, one of the most important things about the game it’s not just an action game, it’s also very sexualized.”

    At least he’s honest…

    • Well, yeah! Why hide the obvious? Though, everyone’s concern is any possible censorship. I need to know! I need censorship out of this franchise!

      • landlock

I haven’t really looked at the girls that much but there is bound to be at least one loli character to be a problem.

    • ResidentMetroid

Lol, I like that he didn’t sugar coat it into something else.

  • I’ll take Burst in whatever format I can at this point. It would be awesome if they released some type of premium version; only available via the XSEED store or something for people who really want a physical copy of the game.

I’ll be glad if we just get it as an eShop release. If they have to cover up the breasts for promotional purposes so be it; as long as the in-game content is left untouched. A shame the US has to be so conservative about sexual content. I’d take sex over violence any day.

    • Pyrotek85

I’d totally buy a XSEED premium release, no question.

    • Hinataharem

Sex creates lives, violence ends them

      • tubers

And since it’s so easy and fun to have sex and overpopulate, the governments and templars must promote violence through several forms of media such as literature, TV series, movies and video games.. much more than sex at least (sex is censored most of the time).

        *hic* *hic*

  • So, Digital Download Only, no? Then, what would be the price for this game? Hopefully not above $30. That’s my budget limit in most cases.

  • Holy…! I was about to start the game tonight and had no clue you can do something like that with the microphone! Elementary~ Will definitely try it out~

I just want this game in the US, I think it’ll be a great addition to my 3DS game library.

  • ResidentMetroid

As long as it gets released, no? That’s cool.

  • Spider-Man

I’d do anything for this freaking game right now……

    ANYTHING. ;_;

    • Darkrise

Then join in and pray! Pray for victory!

  • Anesia Hunter

    o… m… g… ;-; i don’t care if it’s a physical copy or digital download. Just localize it already. We want to play it too. ;-;

  • Shadowman

I’m already on verge of buy Paper Mario: Sticker Star digital copy. Just release it in the US.

  • TruSpindash

I always prefer a physical copy of a game if given the choice, but if a digital release is the only option I would be more then willing to give this game a download.

  • Zonic505

“And… um… how have the fans reacted to this addition?

    They’re like YEAH!”

Sounds like he reads the comments here on Siliconera! But yeah, totally would go for a digital release.

  • Glad to hear that he would love to see it localized. Digital or Physical (Love my physical copies though) I just would really like it to get localized. It’s sure to be a “Burst” load of fun =^_^=

  • Oltheros

Digital download..physical, whatever. Western audiences aren’t such sticks in the mud that they’ll pass a game just because it has some fanservice.

    • It’s more about retailers than the audience in this case. Retail’s been increasingly wary of stocking niche, anime-style games

      • Oltheros

Is that so? Well, you’d know more than I do. As the article points out though, that’s why there’s digital dist.

      • NateCivil

You know, I was always wondering that if retailers won’t take them then why not use amazon? Physical and digital could be easily tracked and sold without having to worry about if game$top will carry it.

  • gonna buy it if released on e shop, but please dont price it 39.99$ >.<

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

      most likey be that :{

  • British_Otaku

Takaki can do whatever he wants. I’ll be buying a local download copy if avaliable on top of importing a Japanese release.

  • Covnam

“What’s your favorite new feature for Senran Kagura Burst?

    They’re like YEAH!”

    Haha, I like this guy.

I’m glad that they’re looking into a digital release to get it over here. While I’d prefer a physical release, I’d rather have digital than nothing and it would mean less of a risk for any company to bring it over. Uncensored only of course.

Good that they’re starting with the second game, since it includes the first, though I guess this would mean it would be more expensive since it would require two games worth of work.
I haven’t seen it confirmed anywhere, but can I presume the first game is accessible from the start and doesn’t have to be unlocked?

    • Both games are available from the start.

      • Covnam

        That’s good. Thanks!

  • Darkrise

Oh Brothers in arms, let us pray that our great creator will bestow upon us our beloved treasure that has since the beginning of it’s days, been denied to us. Let us have sweet, delicious victory!

    • LOL, I read “Treasure” as “Breasure”! Must be my mind bursting from this news…

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Digital download?! Or in a Case, will buy fast if its localized

  • Hinataharem

Make it happen and you have my money

  • Valkyria Chronicles 3 and EX Troopers deserves to come over more than this game. Is there no justice?

    • Pyrofrost

You want those two that bad, talk to Sega and Capcom. This article as nothing to do with those two games.

    • Luna Kazemaru

EX troopers bombed in Japan and VC3 failed because people got butt hurt over it moving to a handheld 1+1 = 2 there are reasons behind those not happening.

      • AkuLord3

I thought Games bombing somewhere else doesn’t exactly mean it won’t be carried over (then games that don’t bomb should be over then). Your still right about some things

        • Luna Kazemaru

If it wasn’t a capcom game that may have been true but seeing how it is a capcom game yeah…

          • AkuLord3

ehhh yeah i see ur point with that…and with a few other companies

  • $29082171

My heart skipped a beat when I read the title of the article.

Then I noticed the word ”hopes” and I let out a large sigh.

  • Yvonne Tsang

Shamelessly proud producer. I like that… I think.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

“My favorite feature in this game is if you blow on the microphone on the 3DS it lifts the girls’ skirts up.”
Oh god I didn’t even know this! brb trying it out!!

  • kylehyde

I been very selective about what download, the reason, because I been waiting for a miracle, and if the miracle comes to the eshop, then my reservation has not been pointless. Please, make it happen. Personally I think that the eshop could help in cases of games like this.

  • PreyMantis

My life would be complete with this game in my hand and localized. I would take all my clothes off and run around the house with glee if this ever gets localized :D

  • wererat42

I might actually buy a 3DS for this game.

  • Bloodios

Great! I hope he also considers the same approach for Shinovi Versus, too.

  • AkuLord3

Sweet, i wouldn’t mind it as a digital copy and it being probably 39.99…i’ll buy it, i mean either way we be spending that much in psychical form sooo yeah : p

  • s07195

Haha, always like reading interviews with this producer. XD

  • I like this guy, please let his wish come true and localize it.

  • gamefreak86

been interested since I’ve heard of this title. definite buy. bought CoP and 3ds xp for these and other niche titles. liberation maiden and crimson shroud, please localize. and for those who haven’t bought CoP do it so Atlus knows the demand for such titles and possibly bring over senran as such.

  • I don’t get what he means by “waiting for Nintendo to build infrastructure” don’t they sell retail games as downloads already?

  • Julien_N

A physical copy is always better, but if a digital version is the only way to get the game, I won’t complain.
It is awesome to see the producer proud of his creation and willing to bring it to the West. I just hope his vision of the West includes PAL regions too. =P

As always, let’s not get our hopes too high before the game is in our console with us playing it.

  • Visa Vang

Wardrobe malfunction LV2 (going commando) and perverted wind is not going to transfer over is it?

  • alixraen

I wonder why more people don’t import this. It isn’t like you’re playing it for the plot. You’d be supporting the company, as well.

    • Julien_N

The 3DS is not region-free and we can not all afford to purchase a not-really-new-console (Not new in the sense that we already have one…) to play a single game.

And even if the plot is not important, it is still better to be able to understand what is said, especially because there are some visual novel sections. For a Shoot’em up or a Rhythm game, it would not be a problem, but here the script itself is not entirely in the background.

  • that last screen shot… If the VITA version never existed, i’d love it… but those pixelized girls compare to the VITA is just…. :/

Somethings can just never be unseen X_X

  • JoJo_649

I seriously doubt Nintendo would allow the 3ds version to be released in america, they rejected the Binding of Isaac for religious matters and this game is heavy on sexual themes, two of the most controversial features for nintendo.
