Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Demo Coming To PSN And XBLA In All Regions

By Spencer . December 13, 2012 . 5:49pm

mgr4Konami released a Metal Gear Rising: Revengance demo on PlayStation Network yesterday, but the file is region locked to Japan region consoles.

All other regions will get the downloadable Metal Gear Rising: Revengance demo for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in January. The Metal Gear Rising: Revengance demo, which has a slice of the game’s second level, is also bundled with Zone of Enders HD Collection on a separate disc.

So yeah i called it….now about them reactions…..;3

    • surakian

Hey, I still wanted to play the demo with the Japanese voices.

    • Aoshi00

The PS3 games might not be region locked for now, but Sony is indeed getting stricter w/ DLCs across regions. After the firmware update, Vita DLC is account locked now, so Muramasa DLC scenarios can’t be played on a US account. Before that DLC was not locked to the account, nor was a 2nd memory card needed.

Also I imported Malicious before, I could play it on my US account no prob, now it can only be booted up when I signed in to my Jpn acct. I think some of my Xillia 1 & 2 DLCs are acting funny too.. so it appears there would be more region locking in one form or another, and there’s no guarantee things would stay the same w/ further updates, they could always add further restriction, like a few DSi games got region locked while most of the DS library was region-free. So some worries are not entirely unwarranted..

I was thinking of import Revengeance as well if there’s no dual audio, now I kinda want to be sure the game won’t be region locked when the demo is (the DLC code demo from Jpn ZoE HD works though).. really want to get that limited edition w/ the artbook.. the US ver w/ the lamp, still not sure if it’s worth $150..

But yes, region locking a demo is quite strange, I think it might be a first…

      Lol me happy2

    • Yup, we were right. High five Luna, high five. ^_^

Well, this is good news…..although it still doesn’t excuse the pointless region-lock. Hope that region-locking won’t become a trend. Companies need to understand that making their products more accessible, means getting more sales and more profit….it’s not that hard to understand really >_>

    • Luna Kazemaru

When have they ever counted import sales?

      • Tales_of_Master

Import sales count toward whatever region the game originated from. Still a sale IS a sale, and that can’t be bad for a company, unless it was a complicated situation like the one with Persona 4 Arena. Like I said before, even if there is nothing to be gained from making contents available for people from all regions, there is nothing to be lost either, so why bother doing it in the first place ? By doing that you’re bound to piss some people off, and that’s never a good thing.

Are you sure they won’t change stuff in the demo for other regions? I’m not sure how the demo released for Japan is like, but if it’s in Japanese text with Japanese voice acting, that isn’t exactly “accessible” to the rest of the world.

      • Tales_of_Master

To my knowledge, the Japanese Demo has white blood instead of red. Making things accessible in the sense of making it available to everyone, can’t be a bad thing no matter how you look at it. There are people who prefer the Japanese VO, and there are others who play Japanese games to practice their language. Still, even if there was nothing to be gained by making a product available to people from all regions, I highly doubt there will be any drawbacks to it, sp why do it ?

        • Yvonne Tsang

… Because not everyone understands Japanese and wants to play a Japanese demo. Many people who play MGS are not into anime/manga/JRPGS etc. If they want this demo as accessible to everyone as possible, they’ll offer it in languages that people outside Japan can speak, and they’re willing to make us wait so they can give us the most comprehensible experience. This isn’t some niche visual novel or whatever, and from what I know, MGS doesn’t offer Japanese voice acting in its fully released games, right? So why would it do so for its demos? Doesn’t make sense since that’s not what they’re gonna offer in the final version.

I think they just want to release a demo that’ll reflect what the game will be like outside of Japan, and not what the Japanese are playing at the moment. Hence the delay. If they release the Japanese demo to us, what are they gonna do, release another version of the demo later? They probably want to concentrate the hype and not have people feel out-of-the-loop for not playing the Japanese demo. They also probably don’t want multiple demos floating around for a single region. Not that I know what the developers are thinking; I’m just speculating.

Either I don’t understand what you’re saying or you don’t understand the problem here. The demo they released on the Japanese PSN was intended for Japanese audiences, yes, but anyone who would have downloaded it would know that.

Nobody minds that you have to make a Japanese PSN account to access it and nobody is asking for the Japanese demo to be released on the EU or NA networks. The thing that has people annoyed is that the Japanese demo is locked so it won’t run on our consoles. Business types cite a couple of (lawful evil) reasons for doing this to full games, but for demos there is absolutely no argument to be had. It’s just stupid.

Of course most western players will opt for the English demo. I’ll play it too. There just isn’t any reason I couldn’t also play the Japanese one. Taking away my options doesn’t serve me or the publisher. It’s anti-consumer and anti-business. Sure, this demo is a small deal, but it’s not like it’s the last time this will happen.

Thanks a lot man. I was really not in the mood to write a long reply xc Pretty much explained all the points I was going to raise, and had a few good points of your own. Thanks again :D

    • deimos

It’s probably due to the EU region’s release of ZoE HD which is very recently I believe. They have to sell those ZoE discs y’know.

    • Kaiser Giygas

Region-lock is more a thing to have control over regions like, americas, europe, asia and oceania have different media laws, and the game is too violent for some american and european countries such as germany, i think they pretend to do some censorship in it.

  • Nitraion

Ohhh Seems they actually reading pointless rage in siliconera….XD
    Joachim has answered!!!!

  • Ha, I knew it as stated in the other post about it being region locked. Take that ragers lol =^_^=

    • amagidyne

I’m confused. An English release was going to happen anyway. That doesn’t make the region locking any less stupid. I mean, yeah, it’s nice that we’re getting the demo. Just don’t see why they had to lock it in the first place.

      • Perhaps they wanted to see the reaction from the people first and that would determine their actions maybe.

  • I do not know about this , I have a PAL PS3 and got the USA ZOE with MGR in it as a demo, I played the thing normally. I just really hope they do not make the same mistake as ATULS did with Persona 4 arena, if they did this I think I will stop being a gamer forever. good day to you all.

  • Kai2591

That went better than expected :)

  • Romangelo

hmm… I hope it may work on my Hong Kong PS3. gotta try it.

  • AaqibRawat

I am so excited about this game but my body is not ready !!!!!!!!
