First Project Versus J Screenshots Show Goku, Luffy, And Toriko

Namco Bandai has a crossover fighting game for Shonen Jump’s 45th anniversary. Project Versus J is a team battle game where characters fight to be the strongest Jump star.

Luffy from One Piece, Toriko from Toriko, and Goku from Dragon Ball Z are confirmed to be in Project Versus J. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita in 2013.

  But DON does not compare to the clearly superior Jump Ultimate Stars. IN ANY WAY!!! I really wish this game becomes more like Ultimate Stars. Fighting for orbs is just not a Fighting game, but more of like a Party Action game.
  
  As for Villains, there were enough of them in JUS, so yeah! Dio Brando, Kid Buu, Raoh, just to name a couple of them.

      Nope. Smash is a brawler. And I think Sony took some of the concept from DON and made it work in PSASBR. But this game, this one might probably be similar to Ultimate Ninja Storm or Tenkaichi. A fast paced, physics defying 3D brawler. And hopefully, with no QTEs in sight!

  agree with you there wake.. i’m praying this won’t end up as just a fan service fighting games where you just build up meter and execute a quick time event kind of battles over and over..

    True. I assume that you’re talking about Playstation All-stars. I actually had fun with that game but not in the same level as SSB. It was chaotic fun, but in terms of depth, it isn’t there yet. Basically, it was a party game. The lack of ring outs and a life bar really hurt it, and with those elements missing, the sense of urgency disappeared. Nevertheless, I’m hoping they listen to the fan feedback and make a superior sequel.

        I’ve been wanting that too. This is a sort of spiritual successor in a way. They haven’t announced the other characters yet, so who knows…the sheer variety might surprise us.

        A true console version of JUS can really only work on wiiU because of the koma system.

        I guess you can sort of do it on PS3 with the Vita, but not a good idea if you want the game to sell. As for Xbox360′s Smartglass, it’s too slow for that. Yeah, I guess the koma system will only work on the Wii U…

    What are you on about? those are two different markets! If people want to play it at home then sure they’ll buy the ps3 version. But there a good chunck of ppl that like portable games especially in japan. And lets not forget how popular these characters are over there. Anything with One Piece in it sells like crazy, add in addition to other characters like Goku and you’ve got your self a seller. This with the addition of Pirate Warriors 2 will move ALOT of units off the shelfs.

      the thing is most people already have PS3′s and not vita, if you already have one(PS3) but not the other(Vita) then you aren’t going to buy the other(Vita) for one game you can get for the system you have(PS3). I know they are different markets but thats logic 101,a system seller is something that is unique to the system an example would be Gravity Rush since its a Vita only title.

        Very good point. But i will still stick by my guns and say that this will sell alot. Mainly becos of the nature of the games were talking about. There are alot of people who prefer handheld gaming in japan. If Sony gives the thing a price cut at the start of next year b4 either games are released then it will sell. And lets not forget in addition to other titles such as Soul Sacrifice and Tales of Hearts R. Those plus Project Versus J and Pirate Warriors 2 are more than enough a reason to get a Vita 4 a Jap. Then again this is speculation if the price gets cut. But all i’ll say to you is look at the sales this week and see where One Piece PSP ranks. That IP is like Pokemon, if not more in Japan.

I believe the roster of the game is already set. The way i saw things were that 3 characters were set to be in the game no matter what (Luffy,Toriko,Goku) and that the other characters would be decided on by fans. Naruto is in the game does this mean like him the rest of the roster has been decided also? there was no official announcement of him being in the game but his in-game model has already been created. Just a thought

    True and i see your point what i’m saying is, will they do that with the whole cast? will they go with this “this manga is popular put this character in because we know what the fans want” mentality and then say these characters were voted in. Capcom did something like this with the “vita exclusive” characters for SFXT they ask vita fans to vote for which characters they would like to see but those 12 new characters were already on console versions of the game and were just unplayable making voting pointless since the characters were already made. Just a thought

O_O Does anyone see the nut-shot Luffy gave goku in one of the screens? Talk about balls of steel! On a more serious note this game looks very impressive. I hope they add “no good” TsuwadaTsunayoshi only becuz he’s so beast!

    Except, of you knew how to play JUS very well, Sakura was the strongest of the cast. I still stand unbeatable in that game with her. Well, her and Yugi Mutou.

        You may know him as Hanamichi Sakuragi, from Slam Dunk. Yeah, I’m telling you, JUS has better balancing since you can beat anyone with any koma. So long as it is in a well-optimized deck, of course. Just remember to make sure you don’t have Help komas with the same effects pointed on the same character. Otherwise, you just wasted space.

        Indeed, I just say this because I made a fairly OP deck with some of the best support effects (I find) coupled 6K Kenshiro’s supers and general strength for easy kills. The main problem is that Kenshiro is the only character of the deck.

  That’s always been a problem with fighting games. Realistically, there would be no way for Radish to defeat Cell. And yet, it’s possible if you’re playing as him.

It’s ironic because, while I love a lot of Jump characters, these are precisly the three I really don’t care for. I know Goku is plenty awesome and Luffy’s really popular, but they just don’t do it for me… I hope Ichigo from Bleach, Natsu from Fairy Tail and a few other cool characters make it to the roster. Then I’ll be interested ^_^

Even if it doesn’t have a very large roster, it may be possible to sell character packs, which I’m against, since you will have to pay to play as that broken Kurapika everyone will be talking about, then it will get nerfed and Nami will be broken… endless cycle, when it could be easier just releasing the game as is and letting people play.
