Get The Walking Dead Episode 1 For Free On iOS

By Spencer . December 18, 2012 . 1:00pm

walkingdeadTelltale Games released the first episode of their excellent The Walking Dead game as a freebie on iOS for a limited time. In "A New Day" you meet Lee Everett who is on his way to jail when the zombie apocalypse breaks out. Lee meets Clementine, a young girl waiting for her parents, and promises to protect her.

What makes The Walking Dead a memorable game is the tough decisions you have to make. Who do you give the limited rations to? Which character do you decide to save and what kind of person is Lee?

Man, why bother getting anything like rhythm games or games like TWD and Ace Attorney these days if they’re going to be released for free/$1 on iOS later on?

    • Aoshi00

well, you get to play it sooner (+ achievement/trophy).. Plus you only get ep 1 of Walking Dead for free here, the rest cost $14.99. PS Plus offered Ep 1 & 2 for free, and not the rest. Theatrhythm you only get 2 songs to start w/ on iOS. As for Ace Attorney, I would pay to play them on release day instead of waiting for years to play on iOS, also not everyone has an iOS device.. I only recently got an iPad, my first Apple product, just for some exclusive apps and games.. most fans really have played them ages ago either on GBA or DS…

Not really worth it. Better pick the console versions.

  • Choice A: Let person die.
Choice B: Save person so they can die later.
Choice C: No, you can’t save them.
    Choice D: …

Choices mattering and game adapting? Yea, right. Load of advertising BS. I’ll also never understand how such a simple game can have so many issues either. Animation, graphics, game freezing bugs, voice acting, UI, all were a mess. Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the game but boy is it over-rated and a technical mess. Adapt Harry Potter, LOTR or ASoIaF into a interactive book and you got some more hits on your hand.TWD game ain’t that special.

That’s because choices aren’t always omnipotent, so you name who will die or live. Sometimes, even in life, a choice is an illusion, and does not depend on you.
This game has technical issues, like any others (not compared to Bethesda games, but still), but if you have a wonderful plot with great characters to interact with, this is but a minor detail.
Also, if what you are complaining about is technical stuff, adapting Harry Potter, LoTR, ASoIaF or even Gossip Girl would result in the same thing, right?
And… the game adapts to your actions, sometimes, like Lee being a jerk to anyone or the food theft.

That’s nice more people get to try it. I played the 1st two episodes on PS Plus for free and was hooked, and recently just got the 360 disc ver. Gonna start chapter 3 soon. Really enjoyed all the TTG point & click adventures so far, like Back to the Future and Jurassic Park. I got them on PSN alrdy, but later still bought BttF on PS3 disc and JP on 360 disc. And the Walking Dead is the best yet..

Downloading it, probably won’t play it though. Have little interest, but it’s free for a limited time… so why not just download it in case I find myself wanting to try it later on?

You need to try it, I bet you would be in for a thrilling ride and hooked after Ep1 :) One of the best games or point and click adventures in my book. Some could argue this is even better than the TV series. The rest of the ep 2-5 cost $15 which is a pretty good deal. I got the 360 disc ver, too bad there’s no install option for some reasons.. otherwise could make the game run smoother…

This is up there w/ Steins;Gate, in terms of telling a great and emotional story. Hopefully I would get thru ep 3-5 one weekend..
