See Earth Defense Force 2025’s New Soldier Hit Giant Ants With An Air Strike

By Spencer . December 20, 2012 . 11:35pm

Earth Defense Force 2025 has a couple of different units. You can play as a standard gun touting soldier or the Pale Wing armed with ravager technology. We’ve seen flying units in Earth Defense Force before. The second game in the series and Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable has characters with jetpacks too.

A brand new unit in the game is the Air Raider. This solider acts kind of like a support character that summons tanks and makes healing beacons. The Air Raider can also drop gun turrets and call down air strikes as seen at the end of that trailer.

Earth Defense Force 2025 is said to be on target for March 2013 in Japan and D3Publisher announced the title for North America.

… So I’m looking at this trailer, and suddenly it hits me: crossover between EDF and Borderlands. Anyone else who thinks that could make for an awesome game?

Add special powers to the different classes but a greater variety of guns, yeah it’d work.

Actually Insect Armageddon already touched on the whole powers per class thing. It’s a solid starting idea, it just needs some fine tuning. And presentation, Insect Armageddon never had the “Oh HOLY ****” moment I was hoping for except for the final fight… But comparatively speaking, the final fight of 2017 was just a spectacle of swarming death and lasers.

That final fight sounds like something that’d make my mouth water, alright.

Still, it would be interesting to see it happen even though I have to admit that I don’t know how you’d mix the “over the shoulder” perspective EDF swears by, with Borderlands FPS centric gameplay. What I do know is that gunzerking through a horde of skag/giant ant crossbreeds would be fantastic, and if Handsome Jack was somehow involved in the madness and piloting a giant robot? Even. Better.
