By Spencer . December 23, 2012 . 12:30pm

P4G_Campaign01Persona 4: Golden was one of two Vita games to take home two PlayStation Award trophies. The PlayStation Vita game was selected by players for a User’s Choice award and won a prize for being a top selling Vita game in Japan, too.

Compared to other Vita games Persona 4: Golden sold pretty well. Atlus plans to push more sales with a sale on Persona 4: Golden in Japan. From now until January 9, the downloadable version of Persona 4: Golden is 1,000 yen ($12) cheaper at 4,980 yen ($59).

    insane deal

    • http://eonhack.blogspot.com theclaw

Not really… Japanese buyers are being ripped off as usual. Even on sale that’s $20 more than the official American retail price.

      • JMaster3000

        Just like Europeans.

      • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

It’s not a rip off if the currency works differently across countries. People need to get over the fact that the USD only applies to America~.

      • Duo Maxwell

I hope you do know that 1 hour of part time job could earn you 2000 yen or more depend on the job, right?

        • Hachio

minimum wage in japan is like 8.50 bro. you have to be giving massages to get 2000 yen an hour. I live here and my wife is Japanese so I know

          • http://www.falgram.com/ Falmung

Wow. 8.50. That sounds really low. Must be hard to live in Japan and buy stuff at minimum wage.Even 8 hours wouldn’t be enough to get close to buying a videogame.

          • Hachio

Sure is bro. Lots of people work long hours or nights to make more money

      • http://www.falgram.com/ Falmung

Agreed with Juan Manuel. The USD is worth less in yen currency. Therefore it takes more dollars to convert to yen and more money than it would normally cost. A currency in Europe for example might convert better into yen and would get the game for a similar or cheaper price than in their home country.

  • Rihawf

    Holy Teddies from Mayonaka.

  • jeb

Wait…so even with the the price cut its 60$?
    That’s ridiculous.

    • Brandonmkii

Don’t import much do you? That’s kind of the norm over there.

    • ErhmagerdWerds

That’s how world economics work. The USD is weaker than the Yen so it translates to a higher USD price on things, but in relative terms to other things in Yen, it’s about the same as what people pay in the US for games.

  • Elemiel

    Looking smug there, MC.
    Smug Souji

    • Crevox

      Yu*

      • Elemiel

Smug Yu doesn’t have the same ring as Smug Souji, though. Unless we flip it around and make Yu Smug.

  • TheCynicalReaper

    WOW that’s a deal. …WOW.
Well, the game deserves all the awards it can get. Best Vita game and best RPG of the year, hands down!

    • AceMNT

Er… better than Tales of Xillia 2? How about… ehm… no? I did play it a few times on PS2 before, I have a Japanese PSN but I don’t feel like it is worth to afford, even with that price, I might look for cheap 2nd hand hard copy on auctions somewhere.

      • Duo Maxwell

In my opinion, yes. If you look pass the battle system (even then I still think it’s a pretty good one), the interactive part of this game is better than a whole lot of RPG out there.

      • http://twitter.com/roneryotaku Phantom Lich

Personally i think that persona is better than any tales of games or any rpg out there, this is my opinion and your opinion is that tales is better but don’t just say that one game is better than another.

      • Isaac Newton

        Tales??? How about meh….
Is Xillia 2 even on Vita? Do you know what your talking about?

        • AceMNT

He said best RPG of the year, not best PS VITA’s RPG of the year, so I think I know what I’m talking about, and I haven’t said it is the best. Anyhow I should stop here.

          • Kevin Lor

He said “Best Vita game and best RPG of the year, hands down!”

          • Edzo

“Anyhow I should stop here so I can think I won.” is how I read this

      • Distant_arcana

P4G and Tales are two different games, sure they might both be JRPGs,but still its like comparing a Lamborghini and a Porsche.they’re both great.

      • piichan

persona is a dungeon crawler with rpg elements. tales is a more traditional jrpg. no need to compare, especially if they’re both great. but i understand you tales fan, i’ve been there. supporting tales games, defending them, until i realized that Bamco hates us and we’ll never get half of the tales series no matter how much fan love we give them. *ducks behind a ToS boxart*

        • Steven Higgins

A dungeon crawler with RPG and social/dating sim elements.
Never played Tales but by friend loves it and she and I have very similar tastes in games so I’d probably like it.

        • AceMNT

I consider myself as a JRPG’s fan more then Tales series fan, Tales games while having great gameplay of them all, most of stories are bad with Xillia 1 was a peak of that, having both boring story and uninteresting characters, Xillia 2 managed to fix it, giving 2 new great characters, brand new much better story and even managed to fix the old characters, while Persona 4 for me was less interesting then P3, much more then DDS and SMT games, just a little opinion.

  • phangtom

    Meanwhile, in Europe…

    • Farid Belkacemi

Import my friend. Just DO it :)

      • phangtom

Nah, I want to support the companies that are bringing the games to us. Plus I want us to show Atlus that people in the EU want their games! :)

        • Farid Belkacemi

So, in the end… You’re happy to get this game next year :D

          • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

They aren’t happy, but they’re 100% right in that supporting publishers is important. If you import a game that a publisher is localizing, that’s one sale less for them~.

          • Farid Belkacemi

There’s no localization in Europe : they’ll just take the US version and publish it everywhere in Europe… So I disagree with you on this one : I can’t support a game released in PAL territories many months after the US one, with the same content. The two versions should be released at the same time.

  • Nitraion

    What way to celeberate… $59 to $12… O_o insane price is insane…
Hope they got idea to make SMT game for console now…. I miss SMT console game…

    • MrSirFeatherFang

No man, it’s $59. The article is saying that the game is $12 cheaper at $59

      • Nitraion

Ow XD haha i must lv up my intelligence and understanding…

        • MrSirFeatherFang

Nah, I thought it was $12 too. I had to reread the sentence like 20 times xD

          • Nightmesh

Glad I’m not the only one. I was about to get upset that NA didn’t get a deal as good as the one I thought they had. ^_^

  • Charmchar

Atlus’s thoughts on the vita “i know the games don’t sell well on the vita, but how about we be the first to sell a million units!”

    Go Atlus!

  • gamefreak86

    Uh no NA deal? Cmon.

  • Visa Vang

I voted for it because it was about the only RPG that came out this year.

  • heartless141
  • Visa Vang

“Persona 4: Golden is 1,000 yen ($12) CHEAPER.” not “Persona 4: Golden IS $12.”

  • http://twitter.com/FFXIIKD SMT

this game deserve it, awesome game.

  • Shane Guidaboni

I guess it wasn’t hard to win the top Vita game at this point in the systems life. Not that P4G isn’t an awesome game.

  • Kingbubbles
