By Spencer . December 31, 2012 . 2:39am

p4cb1Did you know Index Corporation made a Persona 4 social game with Japan’s social game giant GREE? Persona 4: The Card Battle came out on September 24.

How’s the game doing? On December 26, Persona 4: The Card Battle reached over 200,000 registered users. Index is celebrating by giving players a gacha ticket for items, 200,000 points to strengthen points, and 2000 companion points.

Persona 4: The Card Battle has 400 cards from the game and different events like the Junes cup where you can battle other characters. In October, there was an event where Yukiko chases a shadow and later in the month an event with Kanji.

  • Man they’re still pimping P4? I wonder if there’s some internal problems, you’d figure there’d at least be some P5 art by now

    • Amagidyne

I’d imagine it has more to do with the fact that 2 Persona 4 games were released in the past year, that tends to warrant some pimping. And I’m
guessing things are pretty focused on SMT IV over at Atlus’ JP offices,
which might explain the lack of details on anything P5 related.

      • Isaac Newton

I like that username of yours!!!! lol

    • Crok425

Amagidyne said it. While P5 is in development Atlus is focusing on Shin Megami Tensei IV right now (and they are doing a good job so far), so don’t expect some P5 art right now… expect it like in mid development of SMTIV or when the game is already out.

    • My chief concern is with all the time spent on P4 that P5 is going to suffer because of the inevitable ‘it had to follow that popular title’ syndrome. P5 will have a lot to live up to.

  • BloodyNights

I don’t know much about this gree stuff, but I’d play this little game most likely I love the series :D Start bringing this stuff over here Japan!

  • freezestar

Would it be safe to assume that GREE is kind of like the Zynga of japan.

    • Locklear93

In the sense that they’re the best known social game developer, yes, probably. I don’t get the feeling, though, that GREE has the same stigma attached to its name that Zynga has vis-a-vis copying other games, poor treatment of employees, etc. It’s possible that they do and I’m not aware, of course, but I haven’t heard anything like that.

Also, GREE runs its own service–it’s not like Zynga, which is almost entirely dependent on Facebook.

  • Mavalex

Do we get to crush cards with our hand to put them into play?

  • Someone please explain to me this Japanese social game phenomenon.

    • neocatzon

Imagine if you play online games from a flip phone. They already have such services for a long time, loves it, and want it to go on. That’s the gist.

      Japanese smartphone sales

  • Crok425

Uh… okay… I really don’t know what to say about this since I actually ran out of things to say about P4 already. In any case, thos kind of events are kind a cool, I’m really not into Social Games but it seems people are enjoying it so it’s cool :).

  • YourAshyAss_Elbows

I still can’t see myself playing GREE games.

  • I think I would probably play it if its in english lol.

  • OverlordZetta

You’d think peole would have learned by now that Mobage is the way to go for these things.

  • phangtom

Now we need the number of people that would sign up if they understood Japanese and lived in Japan. I want to play!!
