The Weakest Action Hero Is Coming Back To PS3, Now With Retro Graphics

Spelunker Collection from Tozai Games is a digital anthology of the Spelunker series. This collection has the original Spelunker form 1984, the console version, the arcade version, and Spelunker II: 23 Keys.

Tozai Games also created two challenge with online leaderboards. A score attack mode has players aim to get a high score with just one life in the console version. There is also a time attack challenge where you get infinite lives and the goal is to get to clear one lap as fast as you. Infinite lives is an interesting addition since the tiniest drop will kill the adventurous, but frail hero in Spelunker. Are you a Spelunker pro? You can save replays and upload them in CRT mode so videos feel like they were recorded on a tube TV.

Spelunker Collection also has a bunch of brochures and development materials from the almost 30 year old game. Spelunker Collection comes out on January 17 for PlayStation 3 via PSN for 1,200 yen ($13).

Oh man… This sounds awesome. I love how infamous this game has become over the years. And rightfully so! It’s frustrating and ridiculous, yet at the same time, it’s AMAZINGLY fun and addictive. I’m totally getting this. ;)

Tozai, please bring this to the west! I’ve platinumed Splelunker HD twice (in the JP and US versions) and even beat the single player mode of Spelunker Black (haven’t gotten around to finishing up the multiplayer for it yet)

I’m currently still playing the DLC inbetween other games, and would love a new challenge.
