Rune Factory 4 Sprouting On Japan’s eShop This Week

By Spencer . January 19, 2013 . 11:30am

runef4-aRune Factory 4 is making the digital switch in Japan. Marvelous AQL will re-release the title as a Nintendo eShop download on January 24 for 5,220 yen ($59).

The game takes place in a fantasy world where your character (either a boy or girl) falls from the sky and becomes the prince or prince. You can farm, fight monsters, and construct buildings in Rune Factory 4.

Rune Factory 4 first came out on July 19, 2012 before the 3DS simulation game boom. Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Fantasy Life are sold out in Japan. Since Japan is eating up those kinds of games I wonder if Rune Factory 4 will be able to benefit from an eShop re-release.

Oh dang, I thought the title said it got announced for western release. :P
Just gotta wait for someone to say something (Natsume’s looking a little suspicious though…)

    • Reiko_Chan

I hope they release the date soon. I’ve been dying to play this since it was first announced.

      • JMaster3000

I bought my 3DS just because of the Rune Factory series >.<

  • Julien_N

“your character (either a boy or girl) falls from the sky and becomes the prince or prince”
It should be “the prince or princess”, isn’t it?

    • SprintsMcGee

Don’t try and subject us all to your idea of gender roles!

      But yeah, you’re right.

      • puchinri

I got a giggle out of that. (And thought of the Knights of the Round articles where people debated the lead gal being queen/king.)

  • undergroundz

Sure it’s taking a lot of time to localize this game. There isn’t even an announcement yet… although Natsume is always slow.

    • puchinri

I think the slowness can be forgiven now since they don’t make as many bad typos and bug additions anymore? (From what I hear at least.)

But yeah, would be nice to have something said.

      • JMaster3000

HELL NO! The slowness can’t be forgiven!
Europe needs to wait 1 year after the USA release, so that means….. 2014 or 2015…..

        • puchinri

Oh, crud. Forgot about that. Ahem! I retract my statement! They need to hasten it up! . . .And cut down on the typos, grammatical errors and bug-adding while they’re at it!
(I haven’t heard of any bug problems though lately, so maybe that isn’t a point of concern anymore.)

    • RF3 took like a year, so we must be patient. If the localization quality is as good as RF3, I’m willing to wait longer.

  • Draparde

first time i’ve fallen into the “looked at title and got excited” group D:! oh well. i’ll grab it whenever it comes out. (i’ll be fine with the eleventybillion games comming out feb-march)

  • $36598391

This should have a release date for NA already…

  • TruSpindash

Looking forward to this, love the series. Natsume has always been slow with the Rune Factory series, so I’m not too worried about it being localized just a matter of when.

  • puchinri

Hm. I almost forgot, didn’t Natsume give some kind of confirmation that they would localize this? Or did I imagine that? Either way, I do hope the title does well on the e-shop too, and I can’t wait to see what the next RF will look like (also really wanting our next home console HM, grrr).

  • TiredOfMyOldUsername

6 months today RF4 have been released in japan and still no news of localization here in NA :(

  • JMaster3000

Are u gonna be the prince or the prince?

    • puchinri

I’m gonna be the prince! :’D
But I’m also going to be very confused about my gender. . .

  • JMaster3000

We still don’t have a release date for Europe and America :/

  • luckgandor

I wouldn’t expect an official release date until around this year’s E3. As long as the voice acting and the translations are good, I wouldn’t even mind a Q4 release.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

There is nothing to worry on this game here.^_^ I had put all my trust to Natsume so don’t dissapoint me here.^_^

  • meat0bun

Rune Factory 4 aka “Let’s port Rune Factory 3 to 3DS to milk our fans for some money before we actually work on a real sequel with actual improvements”.

Rune Factory 3 was one of my favourite games of all time but this is just lazy :(

    • Elemiel

Wha? How is this a port of RF3?

      • meat0bun

Barely any graphics improvement to take advantage of 3DS capabilities. The weapons, items, and battles system are still EXACTLY the same as RF3. Don’t get me wrong, RF3 had the best battle system ever but they didn’t even add any new skills or weapons in this new one.

As far as I can tell, all they changed was the story and being able to choose a gender. I think for RF5 they should add a “generations” feature where your children do actually grow up, people do pass away, and the passing years actually matter. That would be amazing!

        • Elemiel

The fistcuffs? It sort of existed in RF3, except you had to transform into a wooly to do it and it involved the entire body (also dual swords>transforming imo).

          • Philip Irwin

I had meant the ‘RF4 providing little to no changes to overall gameplay’ thing.

I mean yeah, RF3 kinda did the same but it at least felt like 3 was more of the ‘We finally got everything right’ game.

          • Elemiel

Wait, I’m confused now. What are you talking about?

        • Philip Irwin

Can you confirm this to be true? If so, I think I may definitely pass on this.

I enjoy Rune Factory games but if RF4 has next to no improvements in combat, farming and whatnot, I don’t wanna waste my time and money.

        • puchinri

I thought the fact that villagers will you accompany you for more than battles was an addition? There were a couple of other things, but I can’t go that far back into the archives to bother searching.

Also, it probably doesn’t matter to those who won’t utilize the option, but being able to actually play as a FeMC and have the same amount of bachelors to marry is very nice.

Also, can’t be called a port since it has new MCs, villagers and bachelor/ettes. It’s lazy and undermines what is new about the title to refer to it that way. (I think the only improvements we’ll see for the future will be on the next home console version, or way later in the handhelds’ life times. These are HM/RF games too. Huge improvements happen rarely and not often all at once – or very drastically when they do come.)

  • Natat

Ah damn what a tease! I was so hoping for a western release confirmation…

  • shah ajim

    Dual audio ? I’m dreaming? I hope? okay.. :D

  • Sweet Sui ♥

    Do want… >w<
Localize this for the west soon, pwetty pwease? *puppy dog eyes* LOL
