Introducing… Pokomon, Success Corp’s Own Monster Raising Game

By Laura . January 20, 2013 . 11:00am

Pokomon are cute creatures in Pokopoko Monsters—or Pokomon for short—for the iPhone. Your goal in the game? Why, to be the number one Pokopoko Monster in the world!

Monsters in Pokomon are obtained via training quests and through a lottery. However, the game focuses more on the raising aspect than battles. After getting a monster, you immediately begin taking care of it. As time passes, your monster’s HP slowly decreases, and when it reaches 0, it will die, so you have to increase its HP by periodically feeding it, cleaning its poo, and petting it.

In the meantime, you must also train your monsters to prepare them for the tournaments. You can train to increase stats, health, get items, and sometimes you can fight bosses. You can also send your monster out on a training expedition for a period of time, during which they’ll be unavailable. Sometimes, events will be available, such as going out on a Pokomon Adventure or playing Lottery Training.

In addition, you can also make your monster travel to friends’ houses. You can help your friend take care of the monster by feeding and petting them, and if you bond enough, the friend’s monster will help you out in battles. Friends are made by sending invitations.

You can also fuse monsters to create new ones.  The rarity of the new monster is based off the original’s experience and the number of monsters you use to create the new one.

Finally, Battles can be fought at the World Tournament, team battles, and against friends. Winning battles increases your ranks and earns you prizes.  The monsters will also earn experience and gain levels, and if they gain enough, they will evolve. Here are some of the monsters in the game:

Pokopoko Monsters was developed by Touch Detective developer, Success Corp., and was released for the iPhone on January 8th.

  • Still looks better than 5th gen…

    • Rothion

      True dat. Even the names

      • Syn

I think these are the most downvotes ave seen on the site, clearly very very few pips agree with you guys.

        • Rothion

          Blame the fanboys.

I still like Pokémon, but Gen V has the most laziest and fugliest designs ever.

    • Locklear93

      It’s sad, but it’s true. <_<

    • chroma816

      Nostalgiakid say what?

  • Phlo

  • Elemiel

    Oh my god it’s adorable!

    • Renaldi Saputra

yea I must agree.. maybe they likely aim this for girls than boys

  • This isn’t a rip-off at all. Nope.

  • Kevin Lor

    Loving the background song

  • zazza345

Oh, Success, I liked you when you did Aoishiro, you should get back and do some stuff like that instead of…this “clone”.

  • CuteKick

    So it’s Pokemon + Tamagotchi….

  • I think the character designs are nice and cute, and it seems different enough from Pokemon to be a little unique. However I think naming them “Pokomon” was a terrible idea it’s too similar to pokemon and not only is it confusing it reflects badly on the game. Without the name “Pokomon” I just thought of this as another monster raising game and saw nothing wrong with it, but with that name it just seems wrong because it’s attempting to take a quick ride on pokemon’s success, and also makes this game appear less unique then it really is.

  • The name sounds vaguely familiar.

  • Hyli

Pokomon…now where have I heard something like that before…? :3
The designs are cute though, I’d play it.

  • DesmaX

    Where’s Pokocho?

    • d19xx

      He’s with Osh…

  • Pockystix

    looks like tamagotchi

    • Renaldi Saputra

      I feel the same thing

  • Spirit Macardi

    I smell a lawsuit~

  • haqua

…I’m not even going to call it a rip-off (even though it is one!) since this stuff is so common, it’s almost turned into an “everyone dies at the end/it was just a dream” movie scenario; so common you just don’t care anymore!

I do think the monsters look adorable, though. I wonder what that Red Pel-chan would look like when evolved? Well, I doubt I’ll ever find out.

  • Jesse Torres

this is a pokemon rip off, gamefreak should sue.

  • CrimsonCerberus

More like Monster Rancher than Pokémon. But no one cares about that series. .___.

    • Christopher Nunes

      I love Monster Rancher! ^_^
Sad that the series is dead… :<

      • Renaldi Saputra

me too.. I think they didn’t die..
they still have their social game for android

        • Christopher Nunes

Yeah… My Monster Rancher came out in 2011 for the Android. Still alive in a way, but it’s disappointing they’re not making another major one for the console like the PS ones one. Monster Rancher EVO is the weakest in the series in terms of monster raising and certain monsters to raise (why did they remove the Dino/Zuum monster? I love those guys) though it did have a good story but I think MR4 had the better story overall.

      • sd28

        i know that feel bro

  • Zeta

Minus the name this sounds more like a Monster Rancher rip-off than a pokemon rip-off

  • SpaceOfSoul

Hakusaidesu Looks like a piece of Napa Cabbage

  • dark zios

seriously pokomon? what’s next ? digomon.

    • salvapot

  • Visa Vang

Yeah, that cabbage thing is rare for sure…

  • KingRuff

Just you wait, I’m gonna be the Pokomon Master!

  • Incoming trademark lawsuit in 3… 2… 1…

  • Christopher Nunes

It’s like fusion of Pokemon and Monster Rancher/Farmer given the game mechanics with the raising aspect. I like Monster Raising Game, but this is just… mimicking Pokemon and Monster Rancher a bit given the name and raising parts.

If the name was different it would be great, but it draws to much attention onto itself with the name “Pokomon” when I thought it actually said “Pokemon”. They need to re-think the name for it, and the fusing monsters together to form a new one is like Monster Rancher/Farmer when your monster gets old and you combine two powerful monsters to form a new younger one that takes both traits from the parents (and depending on the main and sub monsters that fused will determine the monster’s new form) and the training aspect as well as in Monster Rancher/Farmer you do more training than battling and MR4 had the more detailed Adventure mode than the previous series had… so yeah.

    I like the idea, just a few things they need to reconsider first. ^_^;
Though I’ll admit the monsters do look cute.

    • Renaldi Saputra

more like tamagotchi for me and those girly styles pets

  • puchinri

There was one game I really wanted to play that looked like it took a slightly different spin on the monster raising thing, but I can only remember that it had a pink bear, MMV may have been involved, it was for DS and. . . wow, forgot the last thing that I remembered. Okay then.

It’s interesting that we see such variations on it aimed at different audiences, which I think is good. I don’t think we see enough general variety, but it’s cool to see people doing other things (especially ones that aren’t blatant copies/homages).

    • Was it Kumatanchi by Vanillaware?

      • puchinri

        No, but I did remember that one too. x’D;

Umm. I remember you had a character avatar, and there was customization, and it was like a small town. . . it had some kind of Animal Crossing-like quality to it I remember. Guh, this is torture. I am going to find it.

Oh. Heh. That was easy. It was PostPet DS. (It reminds me more of Chibi-Robo! actually.)

        • Oh wow, somehow I missed this. I didn’t even know it existed! That does look a lot like a mix between Animal Crossing and maybe Magician’s Quest!

          • puchinri

I don’t entirely remember how I caught it initially, but I feel like someone on Ushi no Tane’s forum mentioned it (and I happened by it on MMV’s site while HM hunting). Doesn’t it though? It’s interesting how similar it is to those two and yet a distinct thing. It’s a shame it didn’t receive more attention. It looked like a fairly fun and solid enough title.

  • DemonicX

This is just quite sad… >_>

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Other than the bad name.(Who give them the idea of naming them Pokomon here?T_T)

I feel this game is a bit closer to Monster Rancher series on breeding front. Interesting game. Going to check them when they are out.

    • Renaldi Saputra

      likely tamagotchi..
bcos I see the design is aimed likely to girls..
and they seem are pets not battling monsters which have waza

  • “Pokomon”

I can feel comments below talking about a Fennekin rip-off guaranteed!

Edit: Lol nope, seems it’s just me heh.

    • Sweet Sui ♥

I can see it too… especially in the tail region and even in the face fluff a little bit, Konta totally looks like Fenniken, lol. Other than that though… it almost looks like an Eevee with a cat face to me… even the colors of the design are similar .w.

  • Hours

I like some of the designs, but are they serious with the name? Believe in your product, don’t piggy back on cheap name puns.

  • s07195

  • ragingmerifes

I’m more interested in this than I am in Pokémon X and Y, actually.

  • Renaldi Saputra

I’ve expected.. many of pokefags will come here and complain this as a pokemon rip-off.. what a drag..
come at me bro, dislike me :v

  • practically a monster rancher + digimon world game with the pokemon.. oh sorry, pokomon.. as the monsters…

  • Renaldi Saputra

heck this isn’t a pokemon game.. only the name is similar.. it’s not about battling trainer and lv up your monster and ultimately become the pokomon master.. there’s no pokomon trainer nor pokomon gym nor pokoball.. don’t judge a book only from its cover..
    your argument is invalid

  • Theofratus ‘Geese’ Lester

    *wakes up*

I want to be the very best,
    like no one eve–

    *looks around*

Wait, what’s this blasphemy!? And what year am I in!?

  • Elvick

That name is sure to give them problems… xP I do like the color pallet of this game though.

The only monster catching thing on iOS I’m looking forward to is Micromon, by MOGA. They had a kickstarter that sadly failed, I backed ):, but they’re still making the game.

Here’s a screen of it. You guys should report on it or talk with MOGA about it.
