Capcom Will Add Japanese Voiceovers To Resident Evil 6

By Spencer . January 28, 2013 . 2:55pm

imageCapcom releases some of their games like Resident Evil and Dead Rising only with English voiceovers in Japan. Recently, Capcom has been going back and adding Japanese voiceovers. Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, an expanded version of the 2012 monster grabbing action game, will have a newly added Japanese language track.

Resident Evil 6 will also get Japanese voiceovers as a future downloadable content. Capcom hasn’t announced any of the voice actors or said how much this will cost. We’ll have to wait for a future report for more details.

This needs to be a standard, keep it up Capcom.

    • ninjabart122

The fact that it’s DLC and it may cost money sounds kind of iffy of them.

      • Oltheros

I doubt that just because I think it’s never been done before. Separate voice tracks have been released as DLC but never charged for IIRC?

But in any case, even if they charge a nominal fee, they at least still give you the option, which is better than nothing at all in most cases.

        • Kevin Lor

I agreed with you here. If this makes it possible for some Japanese games to have an option instead of none then I dont mind it as much.

  • MikelAL93

Here’s hoping that Toshiyuki Morikawa will reprise Leon.

Also, if this happens for Resident Evil and Dragon’s Dogma, will we expect to see this in DmC and future Dead Rising games as well?

    • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

I don’t think any Devil May Cry main game had a history of Japanese voice, even for Japanese releases; only in side media like the Animated series and crossovers.

      • Natat

Resident Evil didn’t either until Revelations right?

        • Aoshi00

For games yeah.. Revelations was the first RE game to have Jpn dub, but the CG movie Degeneration was the first RE movie to have Jpn dub. Same for Damnation which is released in Jpn just now. I’m thinking whether I should import it or not for the Jpn dub and 3D, since the US ver blu-ray is 2D only (you could tell it’s totally made for 3D). Since Revelations had Jpn dub even as a 3DS game, I was hoping RE6 would have it as well since it has audio tracks for other languages except Jpn.

    • Aoshi00

Yeah, Morikawa Toshiyuki would be very cool, he was Dante’s voice in the DMC anime.. but in Degeneration Leon was voiced by Yamanoi Jin who was also cool too. I’m tempted to import the Damnation blu-ray for the 3D in addition to the Jpn track.. it’s nice they’re dubbing RE6 too in Jpn too, since it’s alrdy in so many other foreign languages..

Wow Capcom. Always looking for that next low.

    • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

“Capcom hasn’t announced any of the voice actors or said how much this will cost. We’ll have to wait for a future report for more details.”

Let’s not jump to conclusions in the meantime.

      • Guest

My statement is unaffected by a lack of information about cost. Even if this is free (as it damn well should be), that doesn’t change that Capcom has done horribly shading dealings when it comes to DLC and gaming practices in general. Or have we forgotten that the ending of Asura’s Wrath was sold as DLC? Or have we forgotten that you can’t delete your save file in Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D? Even should they do right here, it changes nothing. Just saying. I don’t expect them to do the right thing. It’s not really jumping to a conclusion.

        • Quinton Cunningham

Okay, the RE Mercs thing is old and frankly irrelevant at this point. If it were Revelations with the locked saves, I’d be upset, but Mercs is just a glorified mini-game and the only data that gets saved is the previous owner’s scores and unlocks. That isn’t all that “shady” really. Call me when Capcom starts making single player, story driven games with saves that can’t erased.

Next, JP voice actors cost FAR more than US ones because JP VAs are huge, because the animation industry in Japan is so prolific, voice actors in Japan are able to have full-time careers as voice-over artists. Japanese voice actors are able to take greater charge of their careers than in other countries. Japan also has the institutions to support the career path, with around 130 voice acting schools and troupes of voice actors that work for a specific broadcast company or talent agency.
So there shouldn’t be any issue with them potentially charging for what could be a costly addition that they didn’t NEED to do in the first place.

          • Guest

And this wall of text is supposed to convince me that Capcom doesn’t take every opportunity to bleed people for money that they can? LOL Okay, sure /sarcasm

They are one of the least altruistic companies around, falling just short of Nacmo Bandai and Activision. Just because you want to be profitable doesn’t mean you have to be scum about it.

        • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

What you’re doing here is bringing up past incidents to justify your poorly-reasoned assumption of what is to come. Refrain from that in the future; warned.

If you haven’t read the rules yet (or forgot about them), read them [here].

          • Guest

Why do you think Capcom is doing this?

          • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

I don’t know, but I’m not going to pretend that I do, nor will I generalize and negate what they did right because of other things they did wrong, and vice versa.

          • Guest

Oh I’m not saying they are doing it for non-altruistic reasons. But it seems like a convenient way to either make a quick buck or win some goodwill. Do you disagree?

          • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

Correlation is not the same as causation. I’m not going to answer that double-edged question, nor continue this pointless talk. Drop this.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000009472732 Rhys Guinn

The Mercs thing was recognized as an oversight, and was fixed in later releases in Japan.

    • Kaihedgie

      :|

No seriously, why complain about something like this? They didn’t say it would be free or paid for.

However, it would make sense that it would cost something since Capcom has to actually pay to get voice actors to redub the entire game. Voice actors don’t come cheap

      • Guest

Ah. Good edit. It prevents me from calling you a dick.

My point is that Capcom always is shady about things like this, which is what I said in my other post.

        • Kaihedgie

          How is this shady?

          • Guest

            Because it’s Capcom.

          • Kaihedgie

So it’s only shady if Capcom does it, but not everyone else who has a similar, if not worse history?

          • Guest

stop trying to extrapolate things I didn’t say.

          • Kaihedgie

You said it was shady simply because it’s Capcom.

          • Guest

Correct. I did not say that Capcom is the only one who does shady things. I said that shady things are done by Capcom.

            To clarify:
Shady things are also regularly done by Namco Bandai.
Shady things are also regularly done by Ubisoft.
Shady things are also regularly done by Activision.

There are certain companies that don’t act out of altruistic intent. Capcom, in my opinion, is one of them. Think of it this way; if a bad person does a good deal, that doesn’t suddenly make them a good person. It just means they did a good deed. Get what I’m saying?

          • Kaihedgie

Here’s the problem though, everytime DLC is mentioned in any article from those companies, people show nothing but hype and love.. It gets especially obnoxious when people go “that’s how you do DLC, Capcom”

          • Guest

Next we’ll find out that the Japanese vocal track was always on the disc and you’re just buying a key to unlock it.

EDIT: I wrote that as a joke, but that actually could happen T_T

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000009472732 Rhys Guinn

            … Seriously?

  • Revorse

Cool. I was wondering if they had Japanese voice actors. But it also leads me to wonder. The writing/dialogue of RE seems very..”Western” so does Capcom set the framework for the story and then let a english writer fill in the gaps, or is it mostly translated?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bob-Obb/100001994017630 Jimmy Dean

I’ve never supported dubs, doesn’t matter if they’re English or Japanese. I’ll always play RE in English and MGS in Japanese because that’s how the creators originally intended it.

    • Aoshi00

The main dub for MGS is also Eng. though, but I have played all MGS in both Eng and Jpn and am used to them equally. It’s nice RE6 is getting a Jpn dub too since it has so many other audio tracks, and Revelations and Degeneration/Damnation all have Jpn dub alrdy (for the Jpn blu-rays at least). I think the US Degeneration DVD had Thai dub even. Too bad Rising won’t have dual track like Vanquish or Anarchy Reigns, otherwise I wouldn’t need to get both ver :(..

      • http://eonhack.blogspot.com theclaw

There’s been others. Starfox Adventures, Wave Race Blue Storm, and F-Zero GX were Eng voiced also.

        • Aoshi00

I know, but I meant the really dialogue heavy and story driven ones. Like the US Degeneration blu-ray had Thai dub, but not even Jpn dub, unless you import the Jpn blu-ray.

        • Armane

Only one of those is Japanese…

  • Bunzi

Don’t the Biohazard games typically lack Japanese voice acting internationally
    ?

    • Kaihedgie

      Since the first game.

  • Gmoyajp

Well Resident evil always had English voices with jp text in there game’s but This is something square enix should be doing with there games here in NA.

  • anthony apduhan

Are they doing this just because of Project X Zone?(the crossover game where Chris and Jill had and always japanese) Cool!

  • epy

RE is one of the few japanese developed series were I don’t care about having japanese voiceovers…so meh…

  • midgard229

um the reason it would cost money is because they have to pay the voice actors for doing it. the japanese game is in english as well, you do realize that right guys?

    • Aoshi00

There were French, German, Italian, & Spanish VAs too, so being dubbed in Jpn (it’s made by Jpn after all) isn’t too weird right? This DLC might be free, if not, what’s so bad about another optional audio track among the many languages that exist alrdy. For me, I just want Eng/Jpn audio since I don’t understand the other languages.. I’m surprised this wasn’t done earlier since Revelations had multiple audio including Jpn as well, so do Degeneration and Damnation.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000009472732 Rhys Guinn

Capcom offers French, German, Italian, and Spanish dubs as free downloads on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Store. There’s no reason to believe that the Japanese dub will cost money.

  • Unlimax

I don’t feel comfortable with this and you know why.. Capcom Thinks that Resident Evil 6 is Successful and the most beloved one to the fans from the whole franchise .. which means they will bring more of the same thing in the near future without thinking about their history.

PS : Don’t tell me that you admire this one specifically .
    —-
Looks like I become a target of some people here.. Just to remind you .. Your Stubbornness and fossilized mindsets causing killed many great titles .. If you are an open mind person and do care about the gaming industry you just had to think about it before its too late .. i don’t care which people agree or disagree , My opinion will be heard Whether people like it or not and its for the best .. it wont hurt you if you just have to think about something important … and may be important for you if you do really care anyway .

Just think about it before Capcom doing something stupid .

  • l777l

    Marvelous patchwork.

  • Kai2591

Well this is one Japanese game I wouldn’t mind playing in English voice.

  • http://twitter.com/monkeyking2135 monkey king

Why would it cost anything? All the other downloadable dubs don’t cost anything.

  • ndjn3979

Kinda feels like they are beating a dead horse.

  • CirnoLakes

Say what you will about DLC, Capcom, and Capcom DLC abuse.

While having dual voices without paying extra is always optimal. I’d rather have the option to pay for Japanese voices as DLC, that not be able to have them entirely.

That being said, Capcom aren’t exactly hurting economically and should have just put in the Japanese voices for free.
