What The "+" Is For In Ys I&II Chronicles+

By Spencer . January 31, 2013 . 5:40pm

Xseed and Falcom are bumping on to Steam again with Ys I&II Chronicles+. What’s new in the PC version? A product page on Steam says the PC version will have Steam Cloud support, leaderboards, and high resolution graphics with a smooth framerate. Players will also be able to select decorative frames from the Ys I&II Complete, a Japan-only PC compilation, or a full-screen view. Ys I&II Chronicles+ also has greater viewing area than other releases.

Features from the PSP version like selectable anime portraits, different difficulty levels, and three renditions of the soundtrack (one is done by Falcom’s rock band) are in Ys I&II Chronicles+ too.

The game will cost $14.99, but if you pre-order Ys I&II Chronicles+ you can purchase it for $14.99.

It costs $14.99, but if you preorder it costs $14.99. Seems normal

    • JB2448

      It’s actually $12.74 if you pre-purchase it.

      • MrSirFeatherFang

        that was the joke :D

        • JB2448

          Sorry; I’m a robot. :P

          • MrSirFeatherFang

No way… the Siliconera Apocalypse happened a while ago and all those who were members before that are now bots except for me and @Testsubject909:disqus.
You’re a robot and willingly joined this site? O_o

          • JB2448

I heard it has a great dental plan.

    • DesmaX

      Yeah, a 0% discount.

Love how you get that discount for pre-ordering most games on steam

    • alundra311

Now that’s how you get people to pre-order.

  • kool_cid414

So 14.99 either way? Sounds cool

  • The + is the forced addition of buttons for attacking, like all the remakes of the Ys games do. The buttonless fighting is what got me into the series in the first place by way of the release on the Wii Virtual Console. Pass.

    • Shaun Huseman

Too bad you are completely wrong. Ys 1 and 2 remakes have the same gameplay

      • Legacy of Ys didn’t, and neither do any of the newer entries in the series or the remakes of 3 and 4. This looks almost the same and I didn’t see anything in the news posts saying otherwise.

        • Hi. Name’s Sara. I worked on this version of the game. It does not have an attack button.

          • M’iau M’iaut

Welcome to the community. Sorry you had to see one of the badder sides of it.

          • Eriol

Thanks for all of your hard work, Sara. Been following you ever since your non-commercial work in Suguri, keep it up.

        • wyrdwad

I’m Tom, the guy who translated it. As Sara said, it has no attack button. No version of Ys I & II ever has *except* the DS version. Every other release, remake or otherwise, has used the original bump system.

        • Gyro Zeppeli

You mean the DS port? It did, you just had to use the stylus instead.

        • M’iau M’iaut

And so you go and post and flame without thinking or learning. Not the first time. Warned.

    • asch999

How about doing some research before posting

    • What the hell made you think that?

  • neo_firenze

This will be a… sextuple dip of Ys I&II for me? Yikes.

    1) UMD version of the PSP game

    2) PSN version of the PSP game

    3) Wii VC release of the TG-16 version

    4) DS version (I know, I know…)

    5) JPN Saturn Falcom Classics I&II

    6) Now this.

And given how many times these games have been re-released, remade, re-remade, and ported to different systems, I’m sure there are people who have more different versions than I do.

But it’s Falcom, so I will buy. Gotta support Xseed on this one, and continue to beg for more Falcom games. Trails in the Sky series being the obvious ones.

    • It’s kind of a dilemma for Xseed/Falcom, too. Trails in the Sky sells so much better in Japan than Ys to my knowledge. On the other hand, Trails requires much more work for localization.

      • DesmaX

And Trails FC didn’t seemed like it did well for Xseed anyway (Heard something about it somewhere).

If they really want to bring the series to the west, they definely gonna need to change the platform (I mean, the PSP doesn’t really do well in the west… Especially nowadays). Maybe the HD Remasters for the PS3 are the way to go

      • neo_firenze

        Steeeeeeeeeam. Steeeeeeeeeeeam.

At least we’re pretty comfortable on the Ys front these days. Still, I will continue to hold out hope for SC and more in the series. Heck, why not a download-only version of Nayuta no Kiseki – less translation than the larger Trails games, a standalone story, really pushes the PSP’s power…

Yeah, I know I sound like a broken record whenever Falcom comes up. But they’re SO GOOD I can’t help it, and I wouldn’t feel like I’m doing my duty without a friendly reminder that there is support out there for SC being localized.

    • Sylveria

Sounds like me with Final Fantasy 4(2), I have 5 physical version of the bloody game.

    • AweOfShe

“Rumors say that anybody who collects every version of Ys I & II is granted a single wish, so long as that wish is to own every version of Ys I
      & II.”

  • Wondering_Zero

I just finished Ys Origin recently, so I’ll definitely be checking this one out.

  • Ladius

I think Sara should really be praised for the amount of love she put into this release, she basically combined the features of the Complete and Chronicles versions and made the best Ys 1-2 release ever available:

Needless to say, I have already preordered the game on Steam and I’m really happy XSEED is the company handling Falcom releases in the west. I hope to see Ys 6 and Trails in the Sky on Steam sometimes in the future, too :)

  • Tom_Phoenix

Very nice! Whoever worked on this version of the game put a lot of effort into it and included some neat features and extras, which they should be commended for.

But as I commented in the previous news post, I hope Xseed and Falcom will eventually release the Ys games on other DD services as well (such as GOG).

  • I bought the UMD, but I’m willing to get on this too. I just hope I’ll have the money left.

  • CabO

Based Xseed and Falcom. Please Falcom let Xseed localize the PC version of Ys Seven, that would be great.

  • Theofratus ‘Geese’ Lester

Well, I guess that makes it the re-re-re-re-remake of this series. *sighs* Oh well, I’m a huge fan of Nihon Falcom, so this is the way to go. I’m ready! :D

  • ddh819

will this be resolution/aspect ratio independent?

    • To an extent; I want to add a proper adaptable display mode, but it won’t happen until post launch. At launch, you can enable “keep aspect ratio” to automatically letterbox or pillarbox as necessary in fullscreen.

  • Naux

Which soundtracks will actually be included in this game? Is the TG16-CD Soundtrack on it?

    • Unfortunately no, although it can be said that people have made soundtrack mods for PC Ys titles before… Included are the same soundtracks as the PC version of Chronicles: the original PC-88 soundtrack, the beloved Complete soundtrack, and the modern Chronicles soundtrack.

  • Lester Paredes

Though, 1 and 2 weren’t my favorites, due to the ‘bumping into your enemies’ style of battle…

  • brian

It costs $15 but pre-ordering it is also $15, hmmmm.

  • Hidayat246

“…..The game will cost $14.99, but if you pre-order Ys I&II Chronicles+ you can purchase it for $14.99…..”

what the………???? so if i pre-order is the same with the price released??

    • DuskSharkEX

No, it’ll cost $12.74. That was a typo.

      • Hidayat246

        thank you!!!

  • Ridho Siregar

    Feena~ I really missed you… <3

  • guin10

    Xseed, one advice:

Put images with the other user interface in steam page.
Two of my friends were not going to buy the game because the old user interface. I already show them some images with the other user interface and they will buy the game.

  • Göran Isacson

Still haven’t corrected the pre-order price. NO matter- I am gonna get my digital hands on this preorder as soon as I can, because even if this game is different from the Ys I DID buy, I still want to see where the series “started”, even if it is in a remake.

  • disgaea36

yess I was waiting for this great news I’m loveing xseed and steam a lot. No psp so this is perfect for people who don’t have the portable.

  • $36598391

that’s disappointing, there goes my hope of the PC88 versions being included

  • Anyone else seen the anime version of these games?

  • JackDandy

Awesome. Bought, it’s nice to have a compatible version of the first 2 games.

  • CirnoLakes

“high resolution graphics and a smooth framerate”.
    Well, that’s always good.

  • CirnoLakes

“The game will cost $14.99, but if you pre-order Ys I&II Chronicles+ you can purchase it for $14.99.”
    What a discount.
