Famitsu Confirms Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge Will Slice Its Way To PS3 And Xbox 360

By Spencer . February 5, 2013 . 6:15pm

ng3reThe rumor is true, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge will be released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge has revised enemy AI and fewer quick time events. The game was first announced as a Wii U exclusive, Nintendo even published the title in North America and Europe.

Famitsu has a little blurb on the port with screenshots of Dead or Alive characters Ayane and Kasumi in the game. Both characters are also in the Wii U version.

I thought the original game was fine, and if they say revised enemy AI, I hope they mean more FAIR AI as the Master Ninja Difficulty is too much or rather the enemy mob combos that come with it.

    • MrSirFeatherFang

I know what you mean. I played vanilla NG3 on Master and Ultimate Ninja. I really hope they improved the AI in the right direction. At least you can SoB as a counter (you can do it against bosses for an instant kill in trials!). I can’t wait to SoB chain those brutes and alchemists… The trials are exactly the same as vanilla NG3… so be prepared for some insane stuff like Master Ninja 15 or Ultimate Ninja 1, 4, or 5 (never beat those…)

  • Guest

That’s alright, as long as any DLC planned for the 360/PS3 comes to the Wii U as well.

    • Sylveria

Id be more concerned about the PS3 and 360 getting what’s already been given as free dlc/updates for the Wii-U version.

      • Rick R

They will. The way TN always get’s around exclusive deals is that the disc pressing will have different content. Basically expect all the Wii U DLC to be on disc for the other two.

  • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

I have it for the Wii U and it is excellent.

However, since it was published in NA and Europe by Nintendo how can they do that for the PS3 and the 360 here? Will is just be a Japan exclusive? or was this a timed exclusive?

    • Kevin Tan

I suspect it might be like Samurai Warrior 3 for the Wii (all territories) and PS3 (Japan).

  • Souji Tendou

Haha called it. It’s so easy to read you Hayashi.

  • gamefreak86

Guess should wait for inevitable plus version. Thankfully didn’t grab for Wii U. Always a stunt like this eh Tecmo.

    • myausicz

save the best for the last :P

  • https://twitter.com/mikedo2007 mikedo2007

Hehe, oh this is going to be very interesting.

  • Caribbean Brony

Hearing this, I really hope this doesn’t happen with Bayonetta 2.

    • smashbrolink

It CAN’T happen with Bayonetta 2, since Nintendo is the one who put down ALL the publishing fees for it.

      • Setsu Oh

bah, if fans put up with the horrific dialogues and repetitive music and see through story, they can buy a used wiiu just for that game can t they?

      • sunK1D

The same was said for RE: Revelations… Nintendo funded and yada yada.

We all know what happened to that title…

Multi-plat Bayo 2 *Platinum* pun intended, is a possibility if the Wii U version proves to be successful.

        • Nikko Thomas

Nintendo only published the European version of Revelations. They are handling all of the publishing for Bayo2.

        • smashbrolink

Razor’s Edge and RE: REV are different situations, compared to Bayonetta 2, though.

        • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Nintendo never funded Revelations. They didn’t even publish that game. They didn’t fund Razor’s Edge either. They offered to publish it for timed exclusivity.

      • FeaturePreacher

It probably will happen since Nintendo doesn’t own the IP, all Platinum has to do is just call it Bayonetta 2: Double Climax or something different from Bayonetta 2.

        • smashbrolink

They don’t own the IP, but they don’t need to in this case.
They literally paid for ALL of the publishing fees.
They pulled the game out of extinction and were the only ones of all those offered that took the job when Platinum approached them.
For both legal and respectful reasons, there’s no way that Bay 2 will see the light of day on another console.
Razor’s Edge was a different situation. Nintendo didn’t have their investments buried into it as deeply as they do with Bay 2.

Of course, that’s not saying that future Bayonetta entries don’t have a chance of being on other platforms.

Microsoft funded Mass Effect 1 for Xbox 360 and look what happen 5 years later, it ended up on PS3. Also Microsoft 2 years before ME1 went to PS3 said in a statement that ME1 would remain 360 exclusive:

            http://www.ign.com/articles/2010/08/17/microsoft-responds-to-mass-effect-2-jumping-ship

            http://news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-20013992-17.html

Many people speculated that ME1 would never see a PS3 release because of this statement MS released, but now look what happen, ME1 is now on PS3. I have a feeling Bayonetta 2 on Wii U is comparable to Mass Effect 1 fiasco when it comes to exclusive. Trust me I’ve seen enough past timed exclusive that end up on another console. Bayonetta 2 is no different.

          • smashbrolink

It’s different because it’s Nintendo doing all of the publishing rights, not to mention they dragged the game out of a certain death in the first place.

          • https://twitter.com/mikedo2007 mikedo2007

Microsoft published Mass Effect 1, Castle Crasher and those came to PS3 later.

    • Matheus Mendes

Oh that would be great, way better than NGRE, but i don’t think it’s going to happen……

  • malek86

Pretty interesting. I wonder if, in order to save money on every exclusive collaboration (since they are doing many more than before), Nintendo is using generally laxer terms… either that, or they saw that the MS approach of limited time exclusives worked ok.

  • Kris

While I figured that this was coming, I’m kind of surprised it’s still called Razor’s Edge as opposed to Sigma or something, I guess I just expected Razor’s Edge was too tied together with Nintendo to be released on other consoles with the same name. My shelf going Ninja Gaiden Sigma -> Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 -> Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge is going to be weird… assuming I ultimately pick it up.

I wonder if it would be worth the cost for KT to release another demo. One set in the same area as the original demo would be fun to compare with.

    • malek86

Well, they did release a demo of NG2S, I think? It was even the same area as the NG2 360 demo.

    • smashbrolink

      You’re in Japan?
Because that’s where Razor’s Edge is being released…

  • http://twitter.com/monkeyking2135 monkey king

I love how everyone jumps on this without applying common sense; nintendo published it yes..outside of japan, the game was never “exclusive” in japan since Koei published it themselves in japan.
Famitsu comfirmed nothing but a japanese release of the game, not a western one, and this definitely isn’t a “sign” or whatever that bayonetta 2 will follow suit.

  • smashbrolink

Did no one read where it said that this was being reported by Famitsu, or that Nintendo has already published this in the states and Europe?
If Nintendo’s published it out here in the states, that means it can’t be re-released on other consoles out here, right?
It was only in Japan where Nintendo didn’t publish it.
So if I’m right, only Japanese PS3/360 owners will be getting this version of the game.
    State-side gamers are still stuck.

    • malek86

I have trouble believing it will be Japan only, because they wouldn’t bother with a 360 version then. If they are making it, chances are it’s for the western market.

      • smashbrolink

They would if they felt it would sell to X-Box owners in Japan.
Again, Nintendo published the state-side and European version.
Because of that, it technically CAN’T be released to state-side/EU consoles.
Mark my words, it won’t be for the western market.
In fact, the only confirmed retailer to be getting it when it releases on April 4th, is a Japanese one, far as I know.

        • malek86

Microsoft also published the original NG2 everywhere.

I’m not saying this will be localized for sure, but to 100% exclude the chance seems too far-fetched at this point. After all, we don’t know how Nintendo’s new strategy goes. They might be going for temporary exclusives, like MS did some years ago, in order to not have to pay too much.

          • Pyrofrost

It really all depends on the agreement Nintendo has with TK. Only time will tell, but I’m not going to bother getting my hopes up even slightly until there is an indisputable NA confirmation.

          • https://twitter.com/mikedo2007 mikedo2007

Yeah and also don’t forget Microsoft published Mass Effect 1 and 5 years later that ended up on PS3. Also now Gears of War is now under question because there is a possibility it could end up getting a PS3 port because MS doesn’t own Gears IP:

            http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/03/04/could-gears-of-war-end-up-on-ps3.aspx
            http://www.1up.com/news/gears-of-war-ps3-epic-love

          • Blaze Townsend

Well actually, Mass Effect 1 was a xbox 360 exclusive, and EA had to wait to get an agreement to release it onto the PS3. Also, Gears of War team had an agreement making it an Exclusive to Microsoft. It’s not like they had ties, they just “felt” their interests aligned.

          • https://twitter.com/mikedo2007 mikedo2007

But both Mass Effect 1 and Gears of War are not owned by MS, I checked MS trademark and I don’t see MS owning Gears of War IP:

            http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/legal/intellectualproperty/Trademarks/EN-US.aspx

So the chances of Gears getting a PS3 port could maybe happen, who knows. Also I forgot to mention Castle Crasher was published by MS on XBLA and 2 years later it went on PS3 and published by Sony.

        • https://twitter.com/mikedo2007 mikedo2007

uh, Mass Effect 1 was published by Microsoft and 5 years later it came to PS3. Also Castle Crashers was published by MS, and 2 years later that ended up on PS3. Also Mass Effect 1 getting a PS3 port has made a lot of Bayonetta fans questioning about Bayonetta 2 on Wii U exclusive. Also I want to mention Goldeneye on Wii as another example, Activision said Goldeneye was supposed to be exclusive to Wii:

          http://mynintendonews.com/2010/06/25/nintendo-wii-activision-explain-why-goldeneye-007-is-wii-exclusive/
And now look what happen, it got a 360/PS3 port under Goldeneye: Reloaded.

    • https://twitter.com/mikedo2007 mikedo2007
  • smashbrolink

Again, Nintendo published the state-side versions of this game, so due to them being the publishers, I don’t think it can be re-released for other consoles state-side.

  • DarthSithZero

I really wish this was true but i think that will be japan only, still no razor edge for western ps3/x360 owners :(

  • miyamoto

    uh-oh…

  • Setsu Oh

    so? retail(mistake) or psn?(good idea)

  • Bentan

    day one baby!

  • Neppygear

Yay. Release it outside Japan and I won’t hate y’all. <3

  • Sergio Briceño

I just hope it’s not too long for the + version. I mean, I don’t have a Wii U and I’m not particularly interested in getting NG3, but if it indeed happens in really want to know what kind of improvements could a portable version bring. They have already amazed me before with + and 2+ (in screenshots and new modes at least).

  • Göran Isacson

Wonder if there will be some extra refinements over the WiiU version, or if that version is essentially as good as it’s gonna get.

  • Leo121

    Coming to Vita 2014

  • Koji Kabuto

PS3 and 360 versions even have new costumes and it´s confirmed for the west:

    https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151336327931785.460574.109196331784&type=3&l=b246ce50bb

  • malek86

By the way, the news just appeared on the Tecmo Koei Europe page, with also the writing “Tecmo Koei Europe today announced”. Not sure if it’s confirmation for Europe but it certainly is fishy.

Frankly at this point I’m led to believe that Nintendo was only paying for temporary exclusivity. I doubt it means anything for Bayonetta 2 though, as it looks like they might be actively paying for the development on that one. Then again, Revelations… dunno.

Maybe it will depend on how mucch Bayonetta 2 sells (but to be honest, I’m not seeing it selling all that much),
