Here’s The Arcade Game Capcom Is Giving Away For Free Next Week

By Spencer . February 16, 2013 . 3:30pm

Capcom is preparing to re-release a bunch of their ’80s arcade games for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The first game, Black Tiger aka Black Dragon in Japan, is a freebie. You can get the action game on February 19 on PlayStation Network and February 20 on Xbox Live Arcade.

Black Tiger is called a "demo," but the PlayStation 3 version has unlimited credits so it’s essentially free. The Xbox 360 version only gives players one credit before the game restarts.

The "full" version of Black Tiger can be purchased along with Avengers and 1943: The Battle of Midway for $4.99 on PSN or 400 Microsoft points.

… So will it have trophies?

I played this game on a Capcom Classics Collection. I loved it, but it’s brutal you’re gonna need those infinite credits because I bet this was raking in them quarters back then!

I prefer to see how far I can get on one credit, so it doesn’t bother me.

I can confirm that Black Tiger is HARD. It’s more like the NES version of Ghosts N’ Goblins than something like Magic Sword.

A Book I recently read used this game as a major plot point. I might actually get it and play it just for that sake.

      What book?

      • leeorv

It’s a book called “ready player one”,
A science fiction novel in which a billionaire seclusionist who invented a virtual reality platform that replaced the Internet, passes away and starts a worldwide contest to find a set of keys in the virtual world to win all of his inheritance.

In order to get these keys, the contestants need to identify and decipher obscure riddles related to gaming and pop cloture in the 80s and 90s.

BTW does anyone know which version we are getting in PALland and US? The western version is supposed to be easier than the Japanese original. If it’s the western version I’ll probably have a good try at 1 Credit Clearing it
