Revealed just a few hours ago, the DualShock 4 is the new controller for PlayStation 4. The design of the controller has similar button placement and Sixaxis motion control. New for DualShock 4 is a touch pad on the front of the controller, LEDs on the top that can illuminate when your character is low on health, and a Share button that lets players broadcast gameplay or upload videos to Facebook. DualShock 4 also has a built in speaker and headset jack that connects with the Mono Headset bundled with PS4.

PlayStation 4 Eye has two cameras with wide angle lenses that can recognize the depth of space in a room. The new camera device can identify players and you can even login to your PS4 with face recognition. PlayStation 4 Eye has four microphones to pick up sounds and their origin. It’s also compatible with PlayStation Move.

Where’s my trusty start and select button? The controller looks disconcerting without them…

    • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

      Its freacking me out too.

      on the touch pad ;/

PlayStation 4 Eye looks just like the kinect

    • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Well, I’m assuming that’s what they were going for. It would be the most logical evolution of where the PSEye needed to go, but having that tech upgrade in addition to working with the existing Move is a good step forward.

    • Syn

And Kinect looked and behaved like an evolved PS EyeToy, cant really say one is copying the other, what we will wait for is to see who implements it better.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Knack is probably the most interesting game other than Deep Down there.^_^
I mean who don’t want “Rampage” style game where you can destroy the whole city?^_^

    • Lazulis

That’s it. Displaying them like that if I ever get them. Happy crabs!

  • badmoogle

    I really like the controller.

Overall, the conference was what it was expected it to be: a teaser. Evolutionary in the social sharing stuff they’re showing, but not mind-blowing. Now to see what experiences devs will create with these new toys and options.

Not to start anything, but have Microsoft announced when they’ll be showing their plans for next-gen? Will it be pre-E3 or sooner?

    • I thought there was something planned in April, but they may have been just a rumor.

      • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Well it still is February and E3 isn’t for another 3 months and some change. They got a little time to sit back a bit and analyze the WiiU’s content and PS4’s hype before they throw their hat into the ring.

Somehow, I think Sony is following Nintendo….
    Nintendo DS –> PS Vita
    WiiU Controller –> PS4

I don’t have a grudge against Sony, and I’m not really sure whether this is right or not. Besides, 3DS DID follow sony’s PSP by adding a Circle Pad.
    Any opinions/facts/whatever?

    • Technically, Sony was using remote play with the PSP years before the Wii U was even announced. While the Wii U has advanced the concept much further, playing a game on a second screeen without the need for your TV was already being done.

yeah your right, in some instances sony does seem to implement ideas that have been used by it’s competetors and others. but there are many instances when nintendo and other companies did the same thing.

this practice is nothing new but the idea that someone owns an idea and there fore no one else can think of it as well is still apparent, i’m not pointing fingers even though i’m replying. ultimately i think every company is simply following what sells and works rather than a certain company, think of it not as theft but evolution. i can’t think to imagine how to play without segas idea of an analog stick just because nintendo were self conscious. in short i’d rather have a quality console than a original one.

  • Solomon_Kano

I really like the idea of that LED the more that I think about it. I’d love to see more games ditch obtrusive HP displays if my controller could indicate my health by turning a certain color. I do most of my gaming at night, so seeing a color and knowing what it meant would be perfect. I really like games with minimalistic UI, so anything that facilitates that is a plus to me. I’d really like to see what devs do with that ability.

    Also: that Killzone banner. Gorgeous.

  • HassanJamal

Dat sexy controller :O Also, is it me or does Knack look a tinsy bit like Ganondorf?
