Mean Wizards Unlock Chaos Mode In Soul Sacrifice, Merciful Wizards Get Holy Mode

By Sato . February 26, 2013 . 6:02pm

Famitsu gave us a look at a critical choice you’ll be given in Soul Sacrifice. The PlayStation Vita game has situations which will determine if your sorcerer walks on the dark or light path. Both alignments have their own unique transformation abilities to go with it.

The two situational options given to you will be between save or sacrificing certain monsters upon killing them. If you go with the sacrifice option, it will raise your magic power level. On the other hand, choosing the save option will raise your ‘life force’ level. Whichever one you pick, you’ll gain new abilities and will also accordingly change in appearance. In return, you’ll lose EXP points of the other side.

Here’s a look at the transformations.

Chaos Mode

Once you’ve reached the limit of your magic power level, you can transform into Chaos Mode. This fearsome transformation focuses on powering up the wizards to take on all monsters. Leveling up more will further change their appearance.

Holy Mode

Wizards that take their Life Force to an extreme level by continuously relieving monster can transform into Holy Mode. If you keep going along the path of saving monsters, the Holy Mode transformation will also change its form accordingly. Wizards in Holy Mode are a sign of forgiveness, but are their decisions truly an act of justice?

Both modes look powerful enough to handle even the toughest monsters. Which side will you pick?

All monsters of the monsters in Soul Sacrifice were once humans just like our wizard. Except monsters have been consumed by the darkness because of their sinful desires. They can either be sacrificed or saved and the choice is yours.

The Kraken is a monster with an appearance of a squid and octopus. This giant monster has eerie looking tentacles and what looks like a boat in its midsection. It makes you wonder what kind of desire could’ve caused that poor soul to transform into that!

Kraken uses swift tentacle attacks which can freely attack its surroundings. If you’re not careful, you could end up being blindsided by one of its tentacles.

The Slime monster isn’t your average weakling Slime we’ve grown accustomed to in other games. Not only in terms of power but it’s also quite the ugly monster. It uses its semi-liquid body to attack wizards. Its movements are considerably slow, but it can stretch for long reach and can also split apart to perform different types of attacks against its opponent. Underestimating this messy monster could mean trouble!

Soul Sacrifice is slated for release on April 30th in North America and May 1st in Europe.

Chaos fer sure. Holy Mode’s looking a bit too Super Sentai… which actually fits all the monster fighting going on lol. Maybe I’ll go for Holy after all!

This keeps sounding better and better.

  • Raze

It looks like I will take the chaos path….

    • MyBodyIsReady

      Holy path for me.

      Love that gif though XD

    • Hidayat246

i dont know gilgamesh is so much rich LOL

  • Rudy Soto

    Mother of God, those masks!
    Holy mode it is.

  • Curan_Altea

Chaos all the way. I’m a sucker for a black and red color scheme, and the Holy side looks very unappealing to me. I’m definitely full on attack anyway.

  • This game is making me want to buy a Vita just for this game due to the BERSERK vibe it’s giving off. :I

    • Valtiel Ikari

      BERSERK vibe is awesome vibe!
everi mediaval game needs more BERSERK!

  • Good news !

Its very exciting ! Cant wait for this demo !!!

  • Ferrick

hmmm sunbro or darkwraith… hard choices =P

    • Zarx

I’m getting more of a Blades of the Darkmoon feel for Holy Mode, those masks look similar to Gwyndolin’s.

      • Ferrick

hmm praise the sun the masks do look abit like gwyndolin’s

        • Zarx

Somewhat, either way agreed on hard choices.

          • Ferrick

yeah… i think in the end i may go the neutral route, its also fun to be jack of all trades magi =P, tried going the 10dark/10light route in the demo. And thankfully they have a system to reset affinity level, so in the end we can just do trial and errors

          • Zarx

You can change your base appearance and gender any time as well, pretty nice imo.

  • tubers

I’d rather be the servant of Dark Sun Gwyndolin.

Holy Mode it is.. kinda sounds redic though.

    • SuperSailorV

i totally thought the same when i saw those masks lol

  • heartless141

need more shiny stuffs for holy mode.

but since everyone will go dark, i’ll stay with the light and keep the balance intact

  • TheExile285

    2 more months. Can’t wait

  • Calintz YT

    The male form looks terrible.

  • MediaMindControl

If I was to choose my path simply by the appearance of the modes shown in the above images, I would definitely choose chaos. I will be choosing to save the monsters because I like the paradoxical justice and the life-force stat. I try and stay true to myself in games where I get to make decisions, and I find it awesome when I am deceived like in 999 for trying to be good.

    • Tincho Kudos

Tottally agree with you. Also, you should play Virtue’s Last Reward, you will be deceived a lot for being good its not even funny

      • MediaMindControl

I was also referring to that game. I did love it so much I bought a red eclipse shirt to wear and stitched memento mori on one of my hats. 999 still had something special about lit. I couldn’t set it down, except to sleep or eat. in about 2 days after I bought it the game was finished. VLR was much longer, improved gameplay and very interesting. oh watch steins gate if you haven’t. VLR reminded me a lot of world lines.

        • Tincho Kudos

Yeah, I’m planning to do so, I watched a couple of mins of the first episode and read a couple of reviews, and It reminded me of VLR. I was waiting for the game to come overseas but I don’t think that will ever happen -.-

          • MediaMindControl

probably won’t happen. I CERNtainly think it is an anime worth watching. Maybe I’m just too obsessed with science like quantum physics and concepts and theories of time travel and such as the butterfly effect.

  • Draparde

    I’m so going holy~!
i have a feeling i’ll be the only one out of my friends….

    • Abyan Haidar

      you’re not alone my fellow

  • konsama

Game sound really interesting, but those designs are kind of meh, i like more the design of the normal wizard.

  • Pockystix

can I get a neutral mode?

  • Christopher Nunes

I like the look of Chaos Mode, my main color theme is Red and Black, but I’m going to be a good wizard in this game so I’ll be a Holy Mode Wizard and I do like the extended life force but the appearance of it is… nice, but not me.

Honestly I was hoping for a more “cooler”-looking modes but given its appearance and nature of the game I shouldn’t be too surprise though it looks like there’s other versions of these modes so it seems there’s more than one look to these two modes which I’m curious to see.

But I think I might go neutral and keep the original look of my Wizard, at least the normal appearance is “cool” in my opinion given that we can customize the look of them. It would be cool if the game allowed you to customize the look of the Transformation Modes to fit each individuals’ needs and taste… that would be awesome!

    Looking forward to the game.

    • Syn

Dont Judge the modes just yet, if you check the most recent trailer shown, I would say they are quite a bit of looks available, also, those modes change the further down the good or evil path you go

      • Christopher Nunes

No worries… though I might go Holy since I’m a good person, but we’ll see when the game comes out. I really cannot wait to see what the other forms would look like!

I might make two characters for those modes; Chris (myself) going Holy Mode and Shalor (original character for a global manga series project of mine) going Chaos Mode.

  • ekibyougami

    Neutral Mode where? ;A;

But DAT HOLY MODE MASK! Lv 99 salvation Lv 1 sacrifice here i come!

    • Daniel Rego

I guess neutral mode would be sparing 1, killing 1, sparing 1, killing 1 and so on

      • ekibyougami

Not necessarily. As long as the preferred exp level of the build you choose levels up first, you can still go for the ‘Save’ option even if you’re going full Sacrifice build and vice versa. Even when going full Holy (Salvation) build, you still need to sacrifice allies for that important +100 action points to achieve ‘Legendary Magician Rank’ to get rare rewards.
So even if i’m going full Holy, I can still be a douche and sacrifice my team mates if they die too much >:D
(okay, just kidding — but srsly, team mates dying too many times can be tad annoying. If only reviving them will generate action points every time then I wouldn’t mind)

      • KingRuff

If this article is telling the truth, then going with 1 kill 1 spare over and over would just cancel each other out. It said that gaining Exp for one side lowers Exp for the other.

        • ekibyougami

There is EXP depending on who you are going to sacrifice. Lesser monsters give random (some little, some high but decreases exp for the other side) exp for either side. Sacrificing or Saving boss monster give a lot of EXP to both sides so you only need to watch carefully which side will level up first. When one side levels up, both sides’ EXP will return to 0.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Dat Chaos side looks deliciously tempting. Plus I hear they make awesome cookies. Mhhmmm… cookies.

  • So, there’s no neautral? I’ll probably lean toward Holy Mode myself, but only time will tell! Also, those Holy masks keep reminding me of Strange Journey..

    • Curan_Altea

You could level up both sides equally, though I’m not sure what benefits there’d be if any. Your appearance doesn’t change when you’re neutral.

  • Lester Paredes

Well, it looks like two, simultaneous play throughs for me… curse my indecisive nature!

  • Abyan Haidar

The Holy mode looks so awful I want to take the path right now

  • Demeanor

Question: is the action REAL action like in MH where I can actually avoid a blow etc or is it “locked” action like in Ni no Kuni’s battle system, where the mobs reach me even if I’m 3m away?

    • I would say, the former.

    • Syn

Real action, you can dodge most things if you see them coming soon enough, think God eater

  • Neutral ofc! Tht means maintaining a fine line bet saving and sacrificing ryte? Wait…. Tht gotta be hard :X

  • psycho_bandaid

I thought for a moment that the chaos wizard had ripped out a partner’s skeleton and was using it as armor.

  • Can’t I choose neutral mode?both looks really weird especially the good side lol

  • vileBrenman

The chaos form reminds me of Prototype. And the holy form makes me think power rangers or kamen rider.

  • artemisthemp

The Slim in FFXIII could be evil, if there was a lot of them.
I gonna pick Chaos Mode, but I have a feeling, there will be a Trophy for Going for Chaos Mode/Holy Mode

  • SirRichard

Kind of disappointed about the lack of a neutral counterpart, but I guess it’s to be expected. Don’t know which one I’ll swing to, it’ll depend on how I feel about the bosses. Hope I don’t end up equally sacrificing and saving them!

  • Nitraion

Seeing all that picture just make me want to scream…..

  • Hidayat246

    the holy costume is awesome
    but the mask is…….. meh

  • Z3

Holy mode reminds me of Seraphimon

  • Göran Isacson

I do wonder if there will be a neutral path, or if one is forced to go down one path or the other…. as well as if this is truly a “good versus evil” choice, because while it sure looks like it they seem to want to throw SOME moral dilemmas into it, judging by the flavor text.

    • Solomon_Kano

Looking at the above image, you’d have to do a good bit of math to keep the scales perfectly balanced, but I don’t see any reason you couldn’t be neutral. You just wouldn’t get anything special for it, seeing as that’s how you begin the game.

      • Christopher Nunes

Indeed… anyway what path are you taking Solomon? Holy or Chaos?

        • Solomon_Kano

Holy. Looks like a Power Ranger and gives me Angemon vibes lol.

          • Christopher Nunes

Angemon vibes, yes. Power Rangers? Really? I don’t really see it.

          • Solomon_Kano

The 6th Ranger always had an extravagant design, so that’s what I saw when I looked at the Holy mask lol.

          • Christopher Nunes

Now that you mentioned it… I picture a bit of the Gold Ranger from Power Rangers Samurai when I see the mask now.

          • Solomon_Kano

See? That Power Ranger vibe lol.

  • BloodTorrent

Dark Path for sure. You all better hope not to co-op with me because ill sacrifice you without even a moments thought. ALTHOUGH people could decide to be assholes and not help out once in ghost mode so maybe ill save you… but im still going for the chaos mode.

  • Claud12

both look ugly but I will go with chaos like always

  • So if you can continue to distort your looks after you reach chaos or holy mode, can I become a corrupted holy character? Could be really awesome!

  • Jake Deerberg

I’m going the Chaos Route. Why? Because Evil rules… that’s why.
