Sega Uses Good Old Passwords To Unlock Recipes In Shining Ark

By Spencer . February 27, 2013 . 11:35pm

imageIn Shining Ark players can bake bread, an item Freed and Panis can eat to restore HP and negative status effects. There are different types of bread you can make and some recipes can be unlocked by passwords. Yes, passwords the things people used to have to write down to continue their game before memory cards were ubiquitous.

Passwords will be released in magazines like Famitsu and Dengeki PlayStation. One of them was shared on Twitter and you can grab that password (plus future passwords) here.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 and Phantasy Star Portable 2 also had passwords. Kind of nostalgic!

  • To force people to hunt online and form communities? Just get them to get on wikis with proper recipes >.>

Also, typing on these handhelds, especially if it mixes numerals with letters is annoying. Source: Trying to type redeem codes on my Vita.

Considering that VC series also had some kind of password thing, i don’t see what’s wrong here?^_^
Hell, i actually kinda likes password system as it makes me nostalgic lol.^^

“I’ll tell you how to bake this bread, but first, tell me the secret password from a magazine *BREAKS FOURTH WALL*”

    Yeah, no, not good.

The game should’ve been on home consoles, where we get to unlock recipes with DLC instead.

I’d have preferred this on a home console too, but it can be downloaded to the Vita and that has a nice screen.

I approve of passwords. Personally, I kind of missed that mechanic in games. It’s nice to have real-world scrounging pay off in a game rather than just blowing more money than I have to.

Me too. Especially, when we get more content for F-R-E-E!

See ,I think I would like the password idea more if it actually took player thought to figure out instead of being “released”.
You know kind of like hunting down artifacts or something that will give you a password or piece of one to get whatever it is they will give you.
Thats the biggest flaw I think with most games that use passwords, you cant figure them out in game, they litterally have to be handed out to you.
I think it would make it much more fun if the player had to figure these things out for themselves…..But thats just me.
