Shin Megami Tensei IV Lets Players Decide How The Story Unfolds

By Spencer . March 10, 2013 . 4:30pm

Like other Shin Megami Tensei titles, Shin Megami Tensei IV has different groups you can side with. Do you side with Tayama or Kaga? How will you answer the mysterious Black Samurai? Atlus lets the player decide in Shin Megami Tensei IV through the game’s "multi story" system.

Shin Megami Tensei IV is slated for release on May 23 in Japan.

    Localization can’t come soon enough

    • puchinri

I agree, but it’ll probably be a while. Given the game won’t even be out in Japan until May, I can’t see it coming out this year (unless it’s smaller than I’d guess).

      • Detrimont

i know, and that’s what makes me sad

        • puchinri

          Same. ;u;
(I don’t want it to release this year and be a smaller game, but I would love to see it later this year.)

          • Detrimont

And there’s worse, i live in a PAL region, meaing i’ll have to wait even longer DX :(

          • puchinri

            Oh man, I’m sorry. ;A;
I hope the wait will be cut down some for you!
It’s kind of ridiculous to me how long it takes games to reach PAL at times (though it makes sense every once in a while, but still).

          • Detrimont

though it is good when there’s a game that has an internation release on the same date for games and books and stuff, since where i live, is “first”, meaning i get the products a day before sometimes (not much of a positive, but it’s positive none the less)

      • StarWarudo

All good with me. Gives me plenty of time to beat Overclock, Soul Hackers, those old Devil Summoner games with Raidou.

        • puchinri

          Hah, good point~.

      • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

There is also Break Code, but that may come after SMTIV.

        • Detrimont

i think Break code will be a closer release, seeing as how Overclocked actually released in english first

          • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Maybe. I dunno. As long as we get it eventually, I love Atlus.

    • Shane Guidaboni

Who would down vote this comment? It’s nothing but positive.

      • Detrimont

thankyou, you get a up vote for that

If you think Christine`s story is really great,, a month back my sister’s boyfriend actually earned $8411 putting in fourteen hours a week an their house and they’re best friend’s mother`s neighbour did this for 5 months and brought in more than $8411 in there spare time from a labtop. the advice available on this page… jump15.comCHECK IT OUT

  • benhofb

My body is so ready right now.

  • ragingmerifes

I’ll just end up killing everyone again.

  • MrTyrant

This isn’t new unless you have a flowchart with different path like Tactic Ogre and you can see different events depends on which side are on. It would be perfect.

    • PABLO Rapetti Perez

The system on the “remake” of Tactics Ogre for PSP was perfect. I was able to see every ending and branch of the story. Hope Yasumi Matsuno (I may have spelled it wrong) gives another shot at the franchise some day, the man is a tactical rpg god.

    • Zarx

No worries I’m probably gonna lose twice the amount of that just trying to dig for stuff to abuse and challenge playthroughs.

I’m sorry, I can’t hear you! Don’t wear that tuna can on your head while you’re talking!

Haha lol. She has a sexy voice but I need to crank up the volume to hear it XD

    • XiaomuArisu

She said your only allowed to die after you saw Gotham City burn!

  • SetzerGabbiani

The localization announcement for SMT IV will come on the same day Soul Hackers arrives in stores…pretty sure of that especially if the preview video is still embedded in the localized version of SH.

  • darkfox1

Wait the Japanese version of Soul Hackers had the first trailer of SMT IV on it… Is there no word on whats going on regarding that? Like maybe the first English one or did they just remove it and plan to reveal later? I think the sole fact that they ANNOUNCED that Soul Hackers had the first trailer for SMT IV on ir influenced sales. I wonder what ATLUS usa is doing

    • Detrimont

yes, yes it did, it was just the TGS trailer though that was released 20 before the actual TGS

    • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

We asked Atlus about that and got a vague “We don’t know yet/hasn’t been decided” type answer. I don’t think they want to talk about it, since mentioning SMTIV at all would be tantamount to confirming a localization. Obviously, the game is coming but they’ll want to save the announcement for whenever they’re ready.

“Shin Megami Tensei IV Lets Players Decide How The Story Unfolds”

…Isn’t that kind of like saying, “Shin Megami Tensei IV is a Shin Megami Tensei game”? ;)

I kid, I kid! Definitely looking forward to this one, even if it doesn’t quite grab me like Nocturne did.

  • http://vindictushots.tumblr.com/ Okuni-chan

    The replay value… Priceless! (◠。◠。)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dylan-Ng/100000854638739 Dylan Ng

I think I will go after the route with the least amount of casualties tht usually is Neutral route :D LET US BE FRIENDS GAIS

  • Amine Hsu Nekuchan

    I’m super psyched for this…

My secret desire is a Law Path that doesn’t involve enslaving all humanity… (( I have yet to beat DeSu 2 so that may have what I’m looking for… ))

    • Göran Isacson

Amen- the different paths are usually so wildly divergent, probably to make it easier on the scenario writers, that they end up feeling like you have to be some kind of superextremist. Usually the Neutral path feels like the only “common sense”-path, and i do hope that isn’t the case here.

  • gamerdude

I’ll choose the hot guy with short hair instead of that Miss Afro Thunder thank you very much. He’s the bad guy in this? Ah just my luck, always one for the bad boys.
