Hyperdimension Idol Neptunia PP Is An Idol Game Set In Gamindustri

By Spencer . March 13, 2013 . 9:29pm

imageWe should’ve guessed by the title alone, but Hyperdimension Idol Neptunia PP to my surprise is not a role playing game. It’s kind of like Idolmaster meets Gamindustri.

The player is a producer and you get to choose four CPUs you want to make a show with. In the game’s adventure mode you can increase the parameters for each CPU and build up their status as an idol. And if the conditions are just right one of the CPUs turned into an idol might just fall in love.

Compile Heart used the PlayStation Vita’s touch screen… to let players touch the CPUs. The CPUs have different actions and voiced lines depending on where you tap them. Tamsoft, the maker of Dream C Club, is co-developing the game and handling the 3D modeling.  Hyperdimension Idol Neptunia PP also has live mode for performances.

Hyperdimension Idol Neptunia PP is slated for release on June 20 in Japan.

Gah…the Nep cast is one of those few games where I wouldn’t feel comfortable touching them. They’re like bros. Either way, this could be a lot of fun.

    • M’iau M’iaut

Admit it you would touch them if they were moaning it up in a soapland-themed minigame that had absolutely nothing to do with the main game. One of those things just there to let you touch them in a soapland-themed minigame having nothing to do with the main game.

      • Flandre Scarlet

        I wouldn’t, actually.

      • FitzpatrickPhillips

Nope! Neptune would be too busy eating pudding and Gust would be too busy to making dat paper to care anyway.

      • Himiko

My man! I definitely want that over the main game.

  • M’iau M’iaut

Ram, Rom, Gust-chan and all the other lolis are managed by me!

    • *smirks*~

    • Zenthos

The ultimate poke player. Gotta catch em all!~

      • Testsubject909

Gotta touch em all if you want to be a poke player.

    • No, me.

I really hope this is as fun as the [email protected] games, and not the dance-only games.

      • M’iau M’iaut

Neptune’s music honestly hasn’t been top tier, but if they could get some of the Tonelico arias or opening songs…..

        • Yeah, the series OSTs aren’t impressive. I’m hoping PP gets other composers to make music and write the songs.

  • Well, now it’s significantly less likely to come overseas.

And I’m not even 100% sure I want it. I’d buy it because it’s Neptunia, but…

    • Testsubject909

I’d buy it because I’m always curious about new genres and open minded. I’m also an open pervert with no shame over the natural instinctive impulses that I have, simply that I know how to control them without having to put up a facade over it’s existence.

And if it’s a sim type game, I’m all up for it… Makes me wonder if any aspect of it might end up being relatively similar to, say, Princess Maker. We only ever got Princess Maker 2 brought over, shame too.

      • TiredOfMyOldUsername

Good news is that fan translation on princess maker 5 is almost 75% done, i think we should be able to play that game in english before the end of this year.

  • Leon_Tekashi

Interesting. I don’t have a vita yet but if this really does get localized, I’ll buy it to support the company. =)

  • ヴァルラシュ

I knew compile heart wouldn’t be able to resist using the touch screen like that

  • dahuuuundge

    heh heh, PP

    • LIkely intentonal

      • M’iau M’iaut

        GO GO Nepgears wet pantsu!

        • lol That seems a bit too far, but with Compile Heart who knows.

  • xXDGFXx

Ah, the one thing I’ve always had an issue with was how they handled cloth physics. I want fluffier skirt movements :O

Dream C Club devs didn’t seem to have the fluffy down from what I recall.

  • Wondering_Zero

HA! I guessed right! Take that you stupid down voting troll!

In other news, I’ll buy it if it comes out in the US, though I don’t think NISA will do it. I’d be glad to be proven wrong though.

    • FitzpatrickPhillips

lol looks like you’ve angered him

      • M’iau M’iaut

        Every post angers him.

        • Wondering_Zero

          Looks like it. :l

          • M’iau M’iaut

Of course bots don’t have the balls to respond on their own.

          • Testsubject909

For all you know it’s a female one.

She would therefore not have the possibility for said physical balls.

  • zazza345

Reporting the actual source (a couple tweets from HMV Japan’s twitter), so people can, you know, fact check would be better, don’t you think?

    • Kevadu

Siliconera doesn’t seem to believe in reporting sources. They never do it.

      • zazza345

[Insert joke about games journalism here] Aside that, “Hyperdimension Idol Neptunia PP” doesn’t exist, as it has not been announced outside Japan. People are intelligent enough to understand which franchise is without resorting to fake names.

      • Luna Kazemaru

maybe you need to go back in a few threads and link some of the oh i don’t know red links before saying dumb shit.

  • shelfcompact

  • chobitsza

NISA. You know what I’m thinking don’t you?

    • License it heavily censored to avoid an AO? I doubt they’ll bother.

      • Elvick

What have they ever “heavily” censored?

        • My use of “heavily” may have been too much, but I’m reminded of when they had to make cuts from Mugen Souls and people complained despite the solid reasoning that was “let’s not waste time and money having the ESRB give us an AO”.

          • LynxAmali

Except for Mugen was rightfully censored.

Crap, that was disturbing. I’m really open to things too!

          • “Compile Heart used the PlayStation Vita’s touch screen… to let players touch the CPUs. The CPUs have different actions and voiced lines depending on where you tap them.”

Given the loli nature of several characters, is this not EXACTLY why Mugen Souls was censored?

          • LynxAmali

Mugen Souls was ‘censored’ because of some of the scenes/CG with the mini-game being of questionable nature.

          • Testsubject909

That said, the day Dream C Club would by surprise sneak up on us all and get localized is the day I expect everything to just flood in.

            Because lemme tell you…

Well.. Actually after this video there’s nothing for me to tell.

      • RoxasTheUnknown1

Actually not true. If you’re basing that off the touching aspect then you’re forgetting the app they put out that lets you do the same thing. No, I’m worried because of the genre and the fact that NISA hasn’t really done anything on the Vita outside D3 Returns.

  • *Is currently playing Shinovi Versus*
    … we meet again, Tamsoft.

    • Radiosity

Also playing currently, it’s actually keeping me from playing Tales of Hearts R because it’s such a blast.

  • Randy Marsh

Touch the CPUs? Sorry Compile Heart, I am a Chika Hakozaki man.

    • HerosLight

    • Sorry but its another freaky Japanese game what did you expect to come out of Japan, RPGs? Haha that’s a dream. ;)

  • DesmaX

    Stay Classy, Compile Hearts

    • Himiko

Hopefully they stay like this. Awesome titles.

  • M’iau M’iaut

Sweet it looks like we’ve got our downvote spambot active in this thread tonight. GO GO DOWNVOTE SPAMBOT!

    • Testsubject909

I think only one of the downvoter liked you so much as to actually downvote you. The others somehow didn’t downvote you for some reason.

      • M’iau M’iaut

Knowing bots they saw GO GO SPAMBOT and thought I was on their side. Downvote spambots are such dumbas*es.

  • Nee Nee

This is a good diversion from the usual style.
Please localize this as well? :D

  • Zarx

I actually REALLY want this, probably gonna be one of the few things I decide to import in quite a while.

  • Jungo

    • I shall join this crusade against downvote bot! *Dylan joined the Downvote Busters!*

    • Testsubject909

I’m not into random upvotes, I just don’t downvote as my own personal contribution since downvotes can mean next to nothing.

  • Manny Being Manny

This sounds amazing. I really hope NISA brings it over.

  • tubers

    It’s official: PervStation VITA xD

    Dream Club

    and now Neptunia

Hope someone does an ad parody with these instead of that “Enjoy Hunting!” Sony ads:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3y7KjfNlaI

    • Göran Isacson

Have to admit that I am curious now- is the message of this commercial more or less “these nerds have no chance with actual women, might as well just hang together and play videogames?”

Because if so, that is both sad and kind of hilarious.

      • tubers

Yeah.. instead of those hunting games, should have shown the VITA perv games:

Instead of “Injoy Hunting-u!” should be “Injoy groping-u!”.

  • CirnoTheStrongest

Yeah….really couldn’t care less about this. And here I was hoping that I’d have a neat Vita game to import…

  • Localize this game with a Limited Edition and you have my purchase. C’MON NISA, THE GOLD MINE IS HERE!

  • MNT

Last time I heard when an idol fell in love, catastrophe fell upon her.

    • Testsubject909

I find that idols falling in love and having catastrophe befall her is the norm when you read up on those stories.

I actually don’t recall a single story of an idol falling in love or getting married which didn’t immediately kill her career.

  • WhyWai

    Oops.. which means… no localisation…

  • Keyanf

Fall in love? I sure hope that means with eachother. Everyone is gay in Gamindustri.

  • HerosLight

I hope you can “touch” the Makers and not just the CPU Goddesses/Candidates!

And I somehow knew it wouldn’t be an RPG. So its a bit of a let-down for me.

  • If IrisHeart is playable I’ll squeel like a girl

  • Duc PC-QB

Sound naughty and I like it.

  • Flandre Scarlet

Looks like Compile Heart wants more Japanese sales at the cost of overseas sales. Not exactly a bad business decision, but it sure hurts for those of us overseas. Can’t see this coming over at all.

  • Hyperdimension Neptunia Purple Producer?

  • Spider-Man

    Oh this is delicious.

  • Arc†icNinja21

I’m going to make Vert fall in love with me

  • So, the Vita is cementing its status as a perv only system, whereas they still use the PSP for RPGs? :-/

    • MrSirFeatherFang

What’s wrong with dat? I mean look at the PC >_>

      • I want to get RPGs on the Vita. My favourite genre.

Also, as someone who speaks 2 languages and a bit more of 2-3 others, I can’t pick up Japanese currently (especially as I’m currently studying Spanish for my MA), and the chances of localization go down as the ecchi goes up.

I’m fine with Ecchi, but why is it instead of other stuff? Both for full games, and within games.

        • Luna Kazemaru

          >I want to get RPG’s on the Vita

sounds like that’s a personal problem you need to take up with the devs.

          • Of course, I brought this up on the original comment.

It’s still interesting the PSP gets so many RPGs. Vita seems like people use it for now mostly for the awesome graphics/”cool touch controls”, we’ll see if within a year people make the games first, and focus on the shiny second.

    • Testsubject909

Every console has cemented their status as pervy in some way or another… Which typically requires you to willingly forget the larger library of game that rivals a smaller percentage of those which are far more pervy focused.

The 360 started off with Dead or Alive and Rumble Roses and continued to have tons and tons of pervy stuff on it, but nobody in NA considers it a pervy console even though it’s probably the better one to get for pervy stuff.

Edit: And if you own Wario Ware DIY for the DS. Oh boy are there a bunch of little pervy games you can download for that. A whole plethora… There’s this one if I remember well where you have to tap shiek to loosen up her bandages and… well there’s a, let’s call it, explosive finish.

  • Will it be Monhun Monpiece all over again XD

  • I’ve never played an idol game so I’m still a little hazy on the specifics of what I’d need to do, despite the explanation in the article. :P I’ll keep an eye on it, anyway.

    • Radiosity

Until I see more of the new Neptune game I can’t really say but the [email protected] games are rhythm games where you have to tap buttons at the right time during songs to get high scores (or beat opponents in live battles), then the rest of the time is spent chatting to the girls, going shopping for new accessories/costumes etc, taking lessons to improve their skills and so on.

There’s no guarantee the new Neptune will have any of the rhythm game mechanics but it’s pretty certain to have everything else (VN style interaction with the girls of course, costumes, training etc).

      • Thank you very much for the explanation! I’m hoping it does have a rhythm element to it now, but the rest of it sounds fun enough to maintain my interest in the game.

        • Radiosity

The [email protected] games are great fun so yeah, really hope this is something like those too.

          • キョン

And Noire’s seiyuu, Asami Imai is also Chihaya’s from The Idolmaster

          • Radiosity

Indeed she is, and awesome at that, such a great singer.

  • Zonic505
  • Well.. that was kind of a let down…=/ Oh well, its okay.

  • Radiosity

Suddenly this video of NepNep doing a synchonised dance to the awesome Mk2 ending theme song makes more sense lol

  • Lilith

After falling in love does the idol shave her head in an apology to Gamindustrians?

    • Ni

      lol oh you

    • Testsubject909

Ah-haha… Ah… and then I think about how the idol industry works in Japan and the impact from their crazed overbearing fans and the variety of careers that were ruined because of something pertaining to their private lives, like say a few well known voice actresses losing all major roles soon after having announced their eventual marriage and faced with a drastic loss of fans who all had proclaimed her their waifu and in their maintained delusions turned their back on a non-existing betrayal.

Well, I’ll still enjoy the game thankfully. This is the sort of stuff in my brain I can switch off when I need to.

  • RoxasTheUnknown1

So it’s pretty much all rhythm game huh? Ergh! I don’t like jp Nep so if singing and dancing is 98% of the game then unless we get a eng release I guess i’ll have to pass for once.

  • TheExile285

    I wanted an RPG….

Oh well, I still might buy this depending on how it turns out and if NISA localizes it

  • Bobby Jennings

Oh man this sucks :(. I was so looking forward to a Portable Vita RPG Neptunia game…this might be pretty good though

  • Tincho D

If it’s ever released in the west i’ll consider buying a Vita.

  • SupaPhly

if this somehow gets localized… then there would be no problem localizing Ciel Nosurge, right?

EDIT: forgot that tecmokoei owns gust now, whoops

    • Testsubject909

Yeah, you’re not the one still hoping…
But it’ll never happen. Probably never…

  • Dietrich

And now, Sony has earned +1 Vita

  • Barrit

Oh wow, I always wanted to play Idolmaster after I saw when you guys did that Playtest. I didn’t care for the concert/singing scenes, but the rest of it seemed really interesting and fun… all the managing and practicing aspects. I look forward to seeing more of this though, I love the Neptune series.

  • revenent hell

I think its fairly common knowledge I as of late am not particularly fan-ish with the Neptunia games, but really is there a point to down voting everyone who likes them? Seriously someone needs a life.
I am curious if the “falling in love” thing applies to the player as the producer or if they are going to actually add in men. From the way its worded I am fairly confidant it would be the producer, though.

  • cedx123

Turn my favorite CPUs into idols all right works for me Neptunia series just keeps on getting better and better!

  • VisualData

And localization chances just dropped to 0%

  • Ni

I’ll have my eyes on this. I don’t like Idols but maybe i’ll play the game just to see if it’s fun or not

  • Mavalex

….welp, time to go buy a Vita

  • Testsubject909

What was the tagline that Nintendo used for the DS? I forget it… was it something along the lines of “Touching is good”?

Well, I hope it gets localized. I’ve never actually played one of those idol games so I’d like to know how that works exactly.

  • HerosLight

Neptune has a new costume for this game o:
