Acquire And Class Of Heroes Dev. Working On Dark Stylish RPG Mind≒0 For Vita

By Sato . March 19, 2013 . 2:01am

image According to reports from the latest Famitsu issue,  Acquire’s next title called MIND≒0 will be a dark and stylish RPG featuring 3D dungeons with a school setting. Acquire and Class of Heroes (pictured) maker ZeroDiv are working on this game. KYO is the character designer, ZIZZ Studio is doing sound, and Minato Kushimachi wrote the story.

MIND≒0 is set in various regions of Japan such as Akihabara, Yokohama, Amamiya and Nippori. The starting high school is in Saitama, a region close to Tokyo.

MIND≒0’s combat is said to be played in a stylish command battle system, where MINDs (Mental Inside Nobody Doll) can be summoned. Event scenes will be full voiced 2D illustrations similar to visual novel titles. MIND≒0 will have two connected worlds, the regular world and a maniacal spirit world, where the MIND can be found.

The protagonist is named Yue Kotori. Sana Chikage who is sporty and straight-forward, the reliable yet often silly Shishi Asahina, and the bad company character, Yoichi Ogata are other key characters in the story.

Acquire’s MIND≒0 is currently being developed for Playstation Vita.

I can see Vita’s getting the attention it really deserves.

    • All in due time =)

    • jujubee88

This looks like a freaking P3P rip off. :<

      • Rei

Same theme, but probably not a rip off.

        • jujubee88

I made an observation and everyone now wants to downvote me to hell :(

          • kupomogli

Downvoting just means they don’t agree. It doesn’t actually do anything.

      • KiTA

Er, no. The sprites on the sides are from their previous titles, Class of Heroes.

All of those characters look like they came straight out of CoH, the Demonkin in the lower left looks like they literally reused art from CoH. Same with the Felpur in the upper left.

        • The pic in the article is from Class of Heroes, not the new game.

      • Ladius

Persona hasn’t the exclusive on school settings, they’re probably the most popular setting for anime, manga and visual novels and they’ve been seen a lot in jrpgs, too: just look at Mana Khemia, Valkyria Chronicles 2, Final Fantasy 8, Final Fantasy Type 0, Sen no Kiseki and the very Class of Heroes series developed by the team responsible for this new game.

Also, this game could very well be a first person dungeon crawler considering its developer’s pedigree.

  • gamerdude

if only sony had money like nintendo to bring these games to eu. Now it’s sort of chicken and an egg situation with vita. People would buy it if there were games to play. I really hope ps4 does well.

    • malek86

Mmh, if you mean that people would buy the PSV in the west if it had games like this one, I think you are wrong. This stuff wouldn’t help much.

    • jujubee88

WTF is this? SCE has SCEWWS.

Hence SCEWWS games. Ya know, Gravity Rush. Patapon. FREAKING PATAPON!!!!!!!!

Well, Sony have at least all my money if they make another Patapon (on VITA). :P

  • Duc PC-QB

    Persona 3 dungeon crawler ?

    • jujubee88

I know right? Well, if it’s like a dungeon crawler and has a totally different story, with an unique and awesome pitch….I might lay off the “fraud” claims.

Until than. Leave my pretty little Persona 3 Portable alone! D:

    • Hraesvelgr

I … am not really getting the Persona 3 comparisons. What am I missing?

    • Testsubject909

Persona 3 is already a dungeon crawler though.

  • JonathanisPrimus

I spy with my little eye something that looks like Persona

    • jujubee88

edit: That was me being sarcastic

double edit: You’re probably like five years old, aren’t you? Ugh. I feel horrible for being such a sadist now. :(

      • JonathanisPrimus

I’m not five, lol. It was just a joke on how both the description, and the art style match that of a Persona game.

        • jujubee88

I still feel they need to pitch the game better to me before I decide the premise to be a complete recycle of P3P’s premise.

As for art style. Yes, it does look a lot like P3P (specifically),

  • JustThisOne

I like the idea of a crazy, crazy, crazy world. But what exactly is a Mental Inside Nobody Doll? :> Sounds like a pretty whack name.

  • Peeka Chu

Just so that I understand, is every neo-Tokyo game with demonic or dark elements automatically going to be classified as a “Persona” clone? We haven’t even seen footage of the game, so its way too early to be calling it a Persona clone. The elements of the game sound interesting, and completely different from Persona games (no sim elements, more combat focused). At least with Acquire there’s a good chance XSEED or someone else will pick it up and bring it to NA.

First people complain that the Vita has no games. Now its “all those games are clones”.

    • tubers

TBF, taking out dating elements doesn’t mean much when Mind 0 has yet to prove its battle system against Persona’s in a unique and positive way.. til then it has yet to prove itself that it is far from a clone w/ all the current evidence against it.

      Questionable art similarities
      2 “worlds”
      3D turn based
      2D conversation scenes
      Summon “MINDS”

I personally don’t mind it being a “clone” as long as it is presented in a very good package.. much so if it has exceptional PV (lots of voiced dialogues)

      • 2 “worlds” (Ni no Kuni), 3D turn based (FFVIII and on wards, etc), 2D conversations scenes (Disgaea series) and RPG (too many to list) aren’t great ways to back-up your point.

We’ve only just heard about this game being developed and is too soon to think of it as a “clone” with superficial similarities. Lets just wait for them to release various screenshots and trailers before making such claims.

        • tubers

Except all of those are condensed INTO Persona as the defining package. Your 1st paragraph barely follows what I’ve mentioned.

My point is being a “clone” isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Like I said; as long as it is presented in a very good package.

          • True, as long as the overall package is presented very well, I will be a happy costumer.

I can clearly see why people are making these comparisons.

          • tubers

Heck yeah! Persona is pretty awesome and this is uber/hyper/mega/jigga/booga likely to be so specially for the VITA.

          • I just want more awesome-looking and well-built games for the Vita; I can’t let my 3DS have all the fun.

          • Same here!

        • tubers

Here you go. Just go to about any other gaming forum site.. It has Persona written all over it. Again, don’t get confused.. that’s not necessarily a bad thing:

          • CirnoTheStrongest

Yeah….that’s looking an awful lot like a persona clone…

          • AdachiTohru

So thats looking good ! Love Persona Like

          • Asahina Shishi is the only 2nd person tht I can recall to have lion in their name next to Kairi Shishigou lol.

But yeah, those MINDs do look like personas and it looks friggin cool.

  • Guys, chill your horses. It just a comparison lol. Plus Persona/SMT is a good comparison…..

The concept sounds quite interesting though. Would like to see more of it.

  • neetyneety

What the hell is that symbol? Why doesn’t anybody notice it? D:

    • It’s a mathematical symbol that means ‘approximately equal to or the image of’.

EDIT: With that being said, if you look at what the ‘0’ being one of two things:
      -Limitless potential

      I might be over-thinking things.

      • Sounds fine if we put Japanese title logic into play.

    • We’re all just too used to crazy Japanese titling practices to care anymore.

      • Testsubject909

        Mental… Inside… Nobody… Doll…

Hmm… Mentally Incorporated Nableugha screw it… I really think what they wanted to describe this thing with wouldn’t amount to the acronym MIND…

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

O.o on the comment there lol. Just because they are setting on school, does not mean they are Persona clone here.
Considering there are also other game that started on school too like Final Fantasy 8.

  • How do you say that symbol? O_O

    • You probably ignore it. My guess is that the title is pronounced ‘Mind Zero’.

      • Most likely have to, no way how to type the symbol. lol

  • CirnoTheStrongest

:( No female main character, no go. Plus, it looks like Persona in way too many ways. I feel like I saw Aigis in there ._.

    • So… have you played P4 or P4G? If not that’s too bad, it’s a great game, but if you have to have a female protagonist that’s a personal decision. I personally don’t care what gender the protagonist is as long as the game itself is enjoyable.

      • CirnoTheStrongest

I’ve played P4, and plan to get P4G someday. There are some exceptions, but I really don’t see myself getting P5 if there’s no female protagonist. It might be different with this, but with the persona series, there really is little reason it has to be a male protagonist, and especially with the mainline SMT games. The main characters are basically blank slates, and their gender has nothing to do with it. Yet, they still always go with a male protagonist :(

Also, my tastes have changed since I played P4 by quite a bit. I’m just finding it hard to really get into a game unless there’s a female protagonist as of late.

        • Understandable. I just find that passing up good games is very difficult no matter what gender the protagonist is. But, everyone’s tastes are different XD

Glad to see that you’ve played P4 though! It’s one of those RPGs that I try to get everyone to at least try out (currently alongside The World Ends With You and Fire Emblem Awakening).

Edit: I can agree with the opinion on SMT IV. Earlier games made sense (and Devil Survivor did as well), but why not with the newest game? I just think it may not have hit off to its fullest extent in Japan yet.

  • komiko12

What a ridiculous acronym… Mental Inside Nobody Doll.

    • jujubee88

Hahaha. I just caught that one. XD

  • michel

Perhaps it’s a Persona clone, pehaps not… But the cool things would be for it to have a different and somewhat revolutionary combat system, like the ones Valkyria Chronicles or Monster Monpiece had… that would put the game in a really different light, in spite of the suspect philosohical similarities to Persona…

  • AdachiTohru
    • Testsubject909

Totally looks like Rival Threads: Last Class Heroes.

Putting this game on my watch list… But man, I think I might have shot myself in the foot by getting one or two too many dungeon crawlers… They take a lot of time to finish… And then there’s just me spending extra time in the dungeons for fun… My backlog…

  • Philip Irwin

Jesus christ, if I see one more ‘it looks like persona’ statement, Imma cut a bitch.

If anything, it just seems stupid that they didn’t go the route of calling it Class of Heroes 4 or something, but I guess maybe the plot or the setting doesn’t allow them to do that.

But it’s Acquire and the CoH devs making this. The chances of the game NOT being an FPDC is slim to none. As long as combat is challenging and this… Mental Inside Nobody Doll system is different or at least competent, I will play it should it see the light of day in the states.

…Mental Inside Nobody Doll, god that’s stupid. Here Acquire, as long as you make some mention of my name, you can use one of the other ideas:

Martyr Integrated Neural Doll (I.E. the Doll is a sacrificial being for a purpose)

Mental Infusion Nexus Doll (Because if there some ‘parallel’ dark world, it implies the doll works in a ‘nexus’)

I could probably come up with others but meh. Granted, I have no idea what the plot purpose of the MIND’s are so… yeah.

    • Testsubject909

Okay… *troll mode activate* It looks like Rival Threads: Last Class Heroes!

      *troll mode off*

Seriously though, can’t wait for Rival Threads to get released already. As for the… MIND’s actual full name… Yeah… I think this was a case of broken English… That is to say, nobody in the team really fully understood the English Language and basically wrote something in English as best as they could in a way that made sense for them.

Thankfully you can kind of understand what they were aiming for with MIND… Unlike a few examples of Engrish you can dig up.

    • I mean, the whole time I was reading the description, this absolutely screams Persona 3. I’m not trying to belittle the game, but the parallels are almost laughably strong.

  • xXDGFXx

I hope it’s as good as Etrian Odyssey IV because that game is fantastic :D

  • biskmater

ZIZZ studios? I just remembered my beloved Demonbane soundtrack, at least the music should be pretty good.

  • I am sure this game will turn out to be good but mental inside nobody doll?Really.

  • KiTA

I do not see the Persona 3 comparisons. They’re wearing school uniforms. That’s about as common in Japan as wearing jeans.
