Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest Uses Red Crystal, Tornado Brings NES Game To 3DS

By Spencer . March 19, 2013 . 10:49pm

dracKonami is re-releasing Castlevania II: Dracula’s Curse as a Virtual Console game for Nintendo 3DS. Simon’s Quest was a precursor to Symphony of the Night and the "Metroidvania" style Castlevania games. Players have to collect Dracula’s body parts (which strangely enough give Simon more abilities…) which are scattered in different castles. The game has a day/night system and multiple endings depending on how long it takes for you to put Dracula back together.

In Japan, Castlevania II was released for the Famicom Disk System and had a save game feature. The North American release was on a cartridge so Konami implemented a password system for players to continue the game.

Castlevania II: Dracula’s Curse will be available in Japan on March 27 for 500 yen ($5.25).

This game is like Zelda II, gotta give it a chance. I found it to be good fun growing up but I”m sure it aged a lot more than the other ‘Vanias.

There’s a patch to remove that annoyingness on Gamehacks (why does nobody know about this, btw?), though you need to patch a NES ROM and use an emulator to play it that way. But that still easily beats a 3DS.

We probably didn’t hear about it since we aren’t into emulation or ROM hacks. Konami should have a compilation of the first three games with improved translations and a complete reworking of Simon’s Quest (If they could contact and hire the guy that made the ROM hack that would be awesome) for the 3DS or the PS Vita.

It’s impossible to mention Simon’s Quest without saying those quotes. That’s like Queen’s Blade without boobs.

I think they should really remake the game instead of porting it. Have it play like the DS style.

Everytime I see that face of Simon I automatically picture the crying image Egoraptor did of him. It’s difficult seeing the real image for more than two seconds.
