image Namco Bandai is trying something different with the Super Robot Taisen franchise. Super Robot Taisen OE is a PSP game that’s split into eight parts. You can get the first chapter for 500 yen ($5.30). After that, each chapter is 1,000 yen ($10.60). Altogether, the game is 7,500 yen ($80) in pieces, but you can also get the complete game pack for 6,940 yen ($74). Super Robot Taisen OE will only be released as a downloadable game.

Super Robot Taisen OE’s gameplay is based on Super Robot Taisen Neo (pictured). The graphics are a fusion of 2D and 3D art. Super Robot Taisen OE has 50 different mecha series in the game including: Gurren Lagen, Code Geass, Zoids, Sgt. Frog, Jushin Liger, Go Saurer, Shin Mazinger, Gundam, 08 Ms Squad, Gundam 0080, Gundam Z, Gundam ZZ, G Gundam, Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed, Gundam 00, Macross F, GoShogun, Dancouga, and Ramune & 40.

I’m too lazy to download it LOL

  • Sweet! Finally, a new Robot Taisen for my PSP! The game will probably be massive, with 50 series included… I’m still waiting for a Robot Wars Vita…

  • ThomasTruong

Found on /m/, but photoninja’ed from another source:

    • fyi1191

      Sgt. Keroro! ! !

  • Z3

ZOIDS?!??!?!?!?!?! on my SRW(I knew it was on L but)?!?!??! OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG this filled with the most hypest shit this is the best, I am so gonna get this after I finish my 5th playthrough on SRW Z2.2 Saisei hen.
    Also typo on Gurren Lagann

Fanboying aside, don’t you guys think this is like an experiment for the Vita or something?

    • Mr_SP

SRW OE remake on Vita? One can only hope.

  • Mr_SP

Aaaand… Now I’m screwed. No import, if it’s all downloaded.

    • Brandonmkii

Should be easy enough to make a JPN psn account and just buy it from there.

  • Göran Isacson

Zoids and Sergeant Frog in the same game as Gurren Lagann. I have a MIGHT need.

Though I do wonder about this DLC plan. If the story continues through each chapter, instead of each chapter being a stand-alone, I wonder why they would split it up as they did.

  • OverlordZetta

And still no news on the Vita game…

    • Sardorim

It could very well be Z3 for all we know…. Or at least hope.

  • WingsOfEternity

So can we save Kamina this time around?

  • Sardorim

…May be one of the few SRW games I wont get. Would rather they had spend that extra cash on Super Robot Wars Z3 and give Esther Elhas her Mecha Upgrade already.

  • Don’t know if want…

I guess it makes sense in some ways but I prefer the old method, which is kinder to importers. Imagine if this is the way forward… D/L on Vita would be a massive pain in the backside with account swapping and all.

Will probably give this one a miss… Wait, is that Patlabor???

    • LynxAmali

      Yes. Yes, it is.
      You know what that means?
      Playable Noa.

Wait a minute. I think my heart just skipped a beat.

  • MrTyrant

    Keroro and Patlabor? do want!!

I didn’t like neo but if they take a few things that were actually very good in the game + what is good in the main games, it could be interesting and the new fresh air that SRW needed.

Wonder how it will work. Shame how money-grabby the gaming industry has become. Is it because of the hard times that we are in? Or is this where the game industry has brought itself to?

    • Solomon_Kano

Despite being cut up into parts, that price isn’t really out of line with what a full game would cost in Japan. Not really seeing the money grabbing part.

    • M’iau M’iaut

Episodic games showed up on the Saturn and Dreamcast and have been used with great success and customer acclaim by TellTale. Paying only for what you use/play is far from a money grab.

    • ndjn3979

I must have spoken out of turn; I’m admittedly not familiar with Japanese game economy or the marketing of part division games. I assumed that it would be designed so that the consumer would want to have all of the parts.

  • Jungo

Oh my god, that series list. I’m 100% sold already.

  • In other news, there’s a group called Operation Hotblood who’s trying to convince Namco Bandai, Atlus and some other companies to localize 2nd Super Robot Wars Original Generation for the PS3 to western territories. I assume they could need all the support they can. So yeah, let us fight for that amazing super robot game.

  • TatsuyaKyo

    >50 mecha series

ALL OF MY MONEY. It appears that Banpresto ain’t giving up on the PSP yet.

On another note, I’m wondering how many stages will a single chapter cover.

  • Guido Pelessoni

I hope they don’t make srw games for vita because the vita gonna die soon.
