Done With Soul Sacrifice? Tecmo Koei Has An Oni Hunting Game For Vita And PSP

By Spencer . April 2, 2013 . 2:30pm

While Asia is waiting for Monster Hunter 4, other developers are jumping into the hunting genre. Sony Computer Entertainment Japan released Soul Sacrifice, Sega has Phantasy Star Online 2 (which predates Monster Hunter as a series), and there’s Toukiden from Tecmo Koei.

Toukiden has Japanese flair to it and artwork from the character designer on Atelier Ayesha. Players can use four different oni slaying weapons: a sword, bow, gauntlets, and kusarigama. Toukiden will come out for PSP and Vita on June 27.

how can we be done with a game that hasn’t come out in the west yet

(yes, I know the game’s been available in Japan for about a month)

  • GO! GO! ED

Done? It hasn’t come out yet.

Sega has Phantasy Star Online 2 (which predates Monster Hunter as a series), *frames this line and hangs it on wall* hope everyone saw this by now

    • Phantasy Star came out long before Monster Hunter was in development, so I hate to see when people compare it to Monster Hunter or even ignorantly call it a copy.

But its nice to see people enjoying where the series has come so far, now on the matter of the subject at hand I doubt this will see US but it would be nice. :D

lol i still have my pso cd for my dreamcast! :P

  • The game is going to have a total of six selectable weapons by the way (Only four of them can be equipped in the demo). The other two are a ‘spear’ and ‘twin swords’. So 2 NPCs remains to be revealed.

Either way, that’s the only recent TECMO KOEI game that interests me. As a fan of the Monster Hunter series, I’m going to enjoy this game a lot, no doubt about that.

Please release this in US, Maybe we won’t have Monster Hunter but with God Eater 2, Toukiden & Soul Sacrifice is far more than enough.

And PSO2. Because a man can dream that it’ll make it to the West~.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

I know the header question is more aimed at the JPN readers, but until both of them release in the west, I personally won’t answer it.

  • ShadowDivz

Anyone know how long the demo is? I only have one memory card and switching is kind off a pain. I mean, im gonna do it. I just don’t want to do it to play for like 4hours.

    • There’s 2 quests, and you can finish them in about 35/40mins. It is mainly because the Oni (Boss) takes some time to be killed.

      • Vash bane

wait we can play jp demo’s on our vita’s?
ive been hearing that. that is impossible since we can only one account.( if this is possible that would be awesome since I had an I eye on this game since last month lol)

        • MrSirFeatherFang

You need another memory card to switch to another account. How to do it, I don’t know. Probably need to remove the current memory card then do some sort of system reset. Then put in your other memory card and sign into your other PSN account. (the memory card is tied to that PSN account, but you need to do that system reset whenever you want to switch)
Correct me if I’m wrong, anyone.

          • ShadowDivz

You can do it with one memory card.

          • MrSirFeatherFang

            oh cool, thanks

        • ShadowDivz

Yeah there are guides online. first make a japanese psn(easy)

          • Vash bane

yeah I have a jp psn bought few dlc with it XD
im about to get a vita in few days after hearing about a few titles(including this one) so that’s why im asking nothing feels better than trying a game oneself right?

          • ShadowDivz

        • Yup, like ShadowDivz said, you only need a memory card to do it. If you don’t know how, don’t hesitate to ask. :)

Done with SS? It’s been out like 3 weeks and the Western versions haven’t even launched yet….

  • Valtiel Ikari

looks interesting, but doesn’t seem to have much power in the hits, maybe a bit of camera shake to enfasize the power of the stryke, or maybe the actual sounds effect are better (sometimes they are lowered for tailers).

  • SilentMC

What’s up with comparing this game to SS? They look nothing alike and have nothing in common outside of being Hunting games

  • MyBodyIsReady

Done with Soul sacrifice? I haven’t even got it yet! D:<

  • Looking really nice. The art style is great, the gameplay looks decent and I’m very excited to see if this turns out well for them! Hopefully it will also be localized. More Vita games is always a great thing!

  • isotrex

If there’s online multiplayer, then that’s awesome.

  • .:Raphællius:.

It actually looks a lot like Soul Sacrifice… Won’t i be playing a similar game, if it were to get an European release, and i bought it? (Because I’m Definitely gettin’ Soul Sacrifice, pre-ordered it.)
