Phantasy Star Online 2: Episode 2 In Development

By Ishaan . April 5, 2013 . 4:30pm

Phantasy Star Online 2 is getting a few Vita-specific updates this month, reports the game’s producer, Satoshi Sakai.

A downloadable update will allow Vita players to customize their button layout on the Vita as well as take in-game screenshots without the game’s UI visible. A couple of tweaks are being made to chat features, too, such as how you access symbol art from the chat shortcut menu, along with other chat adjustments.

The biggest piece of news from Sakai, though, is that Phantasy Star Online: Episode 2 is coming. Sakai says that Episode 2 will have a new story and other features, and that a teaser clip will be shown during a live Nico Nico broadcast on April 9th in Japan.

    Worth the weight.

  • They should commemorate the release of PSO2:2 with PSO tutus :D

  • TheExile285

I want Sega! NA wants it! (Both Versions!)8

  • Flandre Scarlet

Wonder if this is why it was delayed in NA and EU. Maybe they’re waiting for Episode 2. A bit out there, though, just a guess.

    • Draparde

I would hope that was the case…it would be pretty awesome if it was….i doubt it though…, sadly.

  • Brandonmkii

Aw yeah, Dumans are coming back.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    • Dumans, sorry. PSU2 will most likely have beasts though

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

why add them? Seeds are not in pso2

  • B-but North America and Europe don’t even have the game yet.

  • Øzef Sillona Torrente

hahaha stupid sega…. developing the episode 2 without localizing the game… anyways…. atleast we have Soul Sacrifice english version coming……

    • Luna Kazemaru

Explain to me how its stupid to keep their game updated and fresh so players will have something to do and enjoy the game. Please i would really love to know this

      • The “stupid” comment was probably to Sega of America having a build ready and everything done(alas demo at PAX last year) and they still won´t leave any comments on why the “early 2013” has changed to “sometime during 2013” for a release.

And updating the game is good. But Sega of America hasn´t even released a english version of the game yet so it kinda doesn´t matter how much they update the Jap version. Sega of America is still stupid for not releasing and updating a english version of the game.

  • Spirit Macardi

Will there also be an Episode 3 that turns everything into a card game?

  • Takui Nanao

I LOVEEEEEE~ IT~~~ i knew this is gonna happen OMG, Sega is really …. not nice i gues ,we don’t get the game then japs say “our games aren’t popular in NA” ofc , cuz half of the games we don’t even get lol , phantasy star online 2 for example i kinda get it that maybe they are having difficulties but when they release the game here im pretty sure many will still get it, but allot will also be disappointed/sad, plus we wont get more than half of what japs got, so allot of rage will come, they haven’t even said anything about vita ver, i know even if they make pc ver first ppl will still be unsatisfied, everyone wants the vita ver( including myself)…..not good sega not good

  • Crevox

Hopefully they make some good changes, kinda getting sick of this game…

  • Choke to death, Sega.

A US release for this game should have been a PRIORITY and you’ve consistently screwed us over.

    • Luna Kazemaru

Right because we are more important then their own playerr base…lol gold. Come on now chill out.

      • Well Sega of America and Sega has screwed their fans over. I mean Valkyria Chronicles 3 only released in Japan? When the market for a english version is pretty good only because the second one didn´t sell as wanted? When people disliked the idea of it being on PSP instead of PS3? Sure I give the answer myself but man, I would have bought the third game as well.

I need my dose of tactical sniping!!

  • Resources for people who will join the JP side.
Ship 2, block 20 is where a high concentration of English speaking users congregate.

The story is already fan-translated, most of the game is fan-translated.
It’s definitely playable, no need to wait.

    • Calintz YT

Thanks, man. A lot of us westerners who are dying to play PSO2thank you.

    • Luna Kazemaru

You left out the part where the sign ups are ip blocked now

      • Draparde

They are? i just made a new account with no problems. (except the Captcha they have now lol.)

unless its only blocked to new IPs signing up or something.

        • Bobby Jennings

This. Theres no IP block from what I know of.

          • Luna Kazemaru

then they must have recently removed it sorry about that i remember a few months in they did that to try and deal with rtming.

          • Bobby Jennings

            No prob :)

    • And Ship 2 is pretty used yes. So much that I can´t get into the lobby after doing the tutorial level :p I mean I´m soon lvl 3 and I´ve only done the tutorial stage… it keps resetting and I can progress any further than that. Everything else works just fine though so I´m wondering what is happening.

  • How about releasing this in America? :D

  • And just when you think that the game is not good enough – it gets better. Based Sakai-chan.

  • Vesperion

    And meanwhile in the west

    • Vash bane

    • At least you guys got some kind of activity over there. Europe has pretty much nothing as of now..

      • Vesperion

Yeah i really feel for you guys

      • Dylan Neill

But we can just steal the American servers!

        • I wouldnt mind that, but if they deny payment options from Europe, that’d not be so great. I like me some My Room-Features and new Character slots :D

      • Akaahn

I don’t get it… The western version is both US and EU, not just US.

        • We dont know yet if both share the same server or are divided. In all honesty, I’d be surprised, if they plan on sharing the servers, as they got to make a lot of Ships for that.

          • Akaahn

Yeah, I get that, my point is that it will be in service in EU as well, not just US. But yeah, as you said, they will probably have regional servers.

    • Both the PC version and PS Vita version need full localizations otherwise localizing one version is useless to me. I have both and I want both…

  • What ever happen to the North American version

    • MrSirFeatherFang

      • れいか

Is it confirmed that they will be releasing this in the west?

        • MrSirFeatherFang

          (US) Website

However with no frequent updates or signs of translation progress, etc, people are beginning to worry/think it won’t be coming at all (also to consider SEGA is not doing well financially)

          • れいか

Thank you for replying and posting the links :) I just got my vita so I’m still working my way on vita updates.

Will cross fingers for the english localization of the game then. :) I think the possibility is pretty high since it’s sega who posted the news.

  • Tails the Foxhound

Isn’t that a bit fast? Seems like they churned this one out in double time.

  • So this is what Sega of America is waiting for to be released before they even start with introducing the west to the first game in the series? Holy bloody man I was so hype for this game. Been waiting for eons for a good action MMO and then they don´t release it to a market that is willing to play and pay?

I don´t know what is happening any more.

    • Sylveria

It’s Sega of America, it’s what they do.

  • sakusakusakura_nyo

I’m tired of reading about this game. I want to PLAY it. I don’t want to buy a second overpriced memory card to trick Sega into thinking I’m Japanese if I don’t have to.

  • maggosh

    And then…

Phantasy Star Online 2, Episode 3.

  • FFS!
    where is the EUR version?!
how many months should we wait before it gets localized?
    maybe 10 months?
