Date-A-Live: Rinne Utopia is tied to the anime series and you take control of Shido Itsuka, a high school student, who has to seal spirits with in girls to prevent spacequakes. The catch is Shido can only use his sealing powers if a girl falls in love with him. Compile Heart is developing this game with Knights in the Nightmare maker Sting. So far, the two companies haven’t explained how Date-A-Live: Rinne Utopia actually plays.

Instead we get a few screenshots of Kurumi Tokisaki, Yoshino, Origami Tobiichi, and Kotori Itsuka who you may recognize from the show. Date-A-Live: Rinne Utopia also has a brand new character, Rinne.

I’m pretty sure Kotori is the imouto. (I’ve only read the manga).

    • Darkrise

      Read the novels.

      • MrSirFeatherFang

I should, right? lol I have just been spoiled a little but
I have read she’s very important to the plot
That’s why I pointed her out

    • Darkrise

      Read the novels.

  • Xerain

NISA should consider bringing this over for the sole reason that they’d have 0 competition in the field of “Japanese PS3 Dating Game” outside of Asia. (This is excluding Indy games as there’s probably some obscure game on the PSN with a horrible translation no one cares about.)

    • gamefreak86

      Agreed.

    • Ixbran

how about we keep these “date the under aged anime girl of your dreams” shit games in Japan. No western developer in their right minds would approve of this game. Chances are it would get an M to an A rating which would severely limit the games available buyers. And those who could buy it would be people who would be in their early to late 20s.

and again, i reiterate, there is a good chance all these girls are under age.

      • Randy Marsh

You love ranting on any site, huh Ixbran?

      • Anonymous

I agree on that the game should stay in Japan. But not on the “Under aged anime girl” part, Most people throw it around without knowing what it even is

Is it me or that the Red haired girl is a Noire Look alike?

          Same artist. (Tsunako)

        • Darkrise

There might be some similarities since the artist Tsunako was behind the art of Neptune.

          • ShadowDivz

That explains everything. I kept wondering why the style was familiar.

          • http://ryuz4ki57inenglish.wordpress.com/ Thomas FROEHLICHER

I wondered as much, really love that art direction. Added to purchase schedule!

THANK YOU! It’s been bugging me for awhile, i kept thinking “WHY DOES SHE LOOK SO familiar”.

      • Manny Being Manny

It would get an M rating, but who cares? Its not like that would make the game unavailable to buy.

The anime version was just licensed yesterday so theres no reason the game version shouldn’t be too.

      • Xerain

It IS rather unfortunate that if id did come out here Gamestop would refuse to sell it to you.

        • MrSirFeatherFang

I would seriously go preorder this kind of game at GS if it came out here. Only, this kind of game usually has a Premium/Limited Edition and GS is one of the last places I want handling that kind of thing.

      • MrSirFeatherFang

True love transcend time and space! Underage relationships, taboo relationships and incest are everywhere in every region. Embrace it :D

Don’t tell him that, just down vote and ignore him, that’s what we do on FFWiki.

          • Callonia

            okay =D

First off, no the girls aren’t under age. I think Japan has a rule against putting girls under the age of 18 in “those kind” of situations. They’ll probably put some type of loophole in the game that way they can keep their youthful look and still have “those kind” of situations.

Secondly, M to A rating? FOR WHAT!? Obviously you, sir, have not seen RoAW series. If that stuff can get by with a T rating, then I’m sure this will get the same.

Thirdly, you talk of “available buyers” but honestly, WHO IS GOING TO BUY THIS!?
-the people who know the anime/manga/books
-loyal NISA (or w/e company) consumers
-people interested in buying a Visual Novel
        -perverts (yes, they will)
The market for JRPGs or games from japan (that aren’t Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, or other mainstreamers) is already small as it is, so complaining about the type of game “Date-A-Live” is and how it’ll affect the market isn’t saying much.

Aksysgames has been diving into Otome Games for a while now, basically the same thing as this but with men. Yet apparently they’re doing well in that market.

All-in-all, whether or not this game deserves to come over, isn’t for you to say. Whether or not this game will do well is up to debate but spouting information of which 75% is false ain’t really doing anything.

Eh, That comment changed my mind, I might would like to play it if it got(Which is never) localized

          • brian

More (give or take) surprising things than this (Neptune) have gotten localized consistently, even in europe.

          • Anonymous

I find Neptune localization less surprising than this, Since it is an RPG, But surprising nonetheless, NISA is one of the few companies that don’t leave Europe shafted, Which is something i like, If this actually gets localized, I might give VNs a shot because it is a CH game

    • http://twitter.com/aizengamer aizengamer

The problem is A. there’s very little demand, and B. translating a dating game is a huge amount of work.

      • Xerain

Which is precisely why if they did it they’d be the only game in town…
…which is such a twisted reasoning I had hoped more people would find it amusing.

@Ixbran; It is a video game, just relax. You’re acting like it is reality or something. Besides, there’s lots of video games doing that, so there’s nothing wrong with it. Date A Live is going to be a fun (key word; fun) game, so the concept is fine. And stop saying it is ‘shit’. Maybe for you, but not for the others who are looking forward to this game. Though, I agree on one point; the game will stay in Japan I believe, but I don’t mind. I’m still going to buy it.

Anyway. I’M looking forward to this game, especially for the art style, which is the same as the Neptunia games. <3 Speaking of Neptunia, all these characters would fit so well in these games. *-* Kotori Itsuka's basically Noire with red hair~

  • Renaldi Saputra

    harem game
    games for forever aloners
    yea..

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dylan-Ng/100000854638739 Dylan Ng

Its like we cannot play dating sim for fun or for the characters we like.

      • http://fr.twitch.tv/Nhatalya Aleksandrina

        Exactly.

Plus it is pretty shameful to read something like ‘games for forever aloners’. I’ve someone in my life, and I’m very happy with him. I think this kind of people (sorry Ixbran and Renaldi – Don’t want to be rude, but I’ve to say it) should know how to differentiate real life with video games. I’m not going to be in love for real with one of these characters, huh. l_l I play video games for entertainment. You don’t like the concept? Fine, you’re entitled to your own opinion. But saying something like that… no. You don’t have to say anything like this in the first place, that’s just wrong. You don’t know them, so don’t judge them.

        • M’iau M’iaut

I think we can do without the overgeneralized assumptions in the future.

    • Nitraion

That’s interesting Taboo word to comment there i praise your bravery….XD
But for some reason i really really agree with you….

      • Renaldi Saputra

actually i didn’t want to say that the aforementioned game is for all the forever aloners.. but my friends who played harem games are mostly the one with “that feel when no gf”
and searching for alternative gf so that they chose harem games which had intriguing 2d girls to be dated they said..

        • http://twitter.com/#!/kaishou Kaishou

          holy shit lol

          • Renaldi Saputra

huh? did I say anything wrong? I just told the fact and I think other perverts had the same thought as the reasons why they’re playing it

          • brian

But interestingly, the only people I know that really like these games are (straight) females.
And maybe you’re perverted for thinking they’re perverts, maybe they primarily like the characters and plot.

          • Renaldi Saputra

            females play otome games..
this is a vice versa of otome..
and i don’t think they’re searching for plots..
that’s why they provide moeblob characters

    • aecks

I like to think of them as games for people with options.

I like the novel and when this game was announced i got pretty hyped but i want to see the goddanmed gameplay since sting is working on it :(

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

I’ve read a bit of the manga, and now watching the anime too. I could be wrong, but from the looks of it it looks like it’s a visual novel.

  • Kevin Schwarz

Any news on the gameplay? No offense intended, but I consider datesims a waste of time in a console. But if it also has action or roleplaying mechanics, then it’s cool.

    • brian

Well the article mentions they haven’t explained that yet.

    • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 水木

My take from what I’ve seen is it’s a dating sim. They’re mega popular in Japan and awesome for practicing/learning Japanese hardcore style

      • brian

Well not mega popular, since most only sell only about 10k units.

    • Renaldi Saputra

on amazon.co.jp it’s caterogized as “adventure” which the list of games in that caterogy are mostly pure dating sims/Visual Novels

  • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 水木

    Preordered the limited edition

  • kaizin

to buy or not to buy the manga and anime are good but need to see gameplay before i murder my wallet.

For what console is this game?

    • aecks

Date-A-Live: Rinne Utopia is being developed for the PS3.

  • Akemi Homura

If this game would get a translation…it would probably end up in Mangagamer. I mean, that website is full of translated VNs.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000442928254 Zak Ledward

Mangagamer only handles PC games from what I’ve seen due to the fact that they can be uploaded to a server and be sold without having to deal with shipping and other things. Of course you can say they could post it on the PSN store, but that requires a certain amount of funds that I’m sure Mangagamer is not willing to put forth (no offense MangaGamer).

      • M’iau M’iaut

PC games can also be done without having to pay for licensing by the console manufacturers and the ratings systems they require. Not to mention anything that would even hint at an AO possibility just won’t happen.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000442928254 Zak Ledward

I must apologize, I assumed this to be a PS3 game due to its company being Compile Heart which hasn’t done anything outside of consoles from what I’ve seen. Also Compile Heart later porting this to PC is…unlikely? IDK, the only game that has made it to PC so far is RoAW (1) and that’s being done by Ghostlight (EU) if I remember correctly. I highly doubt thought that this game would receive an AO rating. I haven’t played much VNs on the console systems so far (I have played Mashiro Symphony, PSP) but I am assuming that the content they put in those games are strictly for the purpose of NOT getting that AO rating; they make the games All Ages from what I can remember, although that’s assuming all VNs are ported to consoles/handhelds with the goal of getting an All Ages rating; there are 17+ rated VNs for consoles/handhelds on the market.

  • ZekeFreek

Ironically may be Compile Heart’s best game simply because it isn’t trying to be anything special.

  • ShadowDivz

White haired one is the cutest. And the black haired girl is a close 2nd. With fiery red in 3rd. For me anyway.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000442928254 Zak Ledward

I love the artist for this game, as everyone has been saying, the red-haired girl reminds me too much of Noire (I get to date Noire? KYAA~). Wallet is going to be crying after this summer.
