Wii News, Weather, Nintendo Channel Are Going Offline In June

By Spencer . April 12, 2013 . 2:12am

Everybody_Votes_ChannelThe Wii launched with Wii Sports, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and a handful of content channels like the Weather Channel and News Channel. Those services will end, at least in Japan, on June 28.

The Weather Channel, Digital Camera Print Channel, News Channel, Everybody Votes Channel, Check Mii Out Channel, WiiConnect24 data exchanges, and Nintendo Channel will shutdown on that day.

Wii owners will still be able to access the Wii Shop Channel to purchase WiiWare or Virtual Console games and write messages on the Wii Message Board.

        But the Wii’s one is so inviting and pleasant…

    • ShadowDivz

      I always check the weather on my WII before going out. Weather man is so inaccurate.

  • Not a big shock. I just wonder how long the Wii Shop is gonna keep going. Though best estimates are it’s gonna stay up until the Wii stops being produced.

      The Wii U has a Wii mode

      • Yeah, but really, how long is the Wii Shop mode in that gonna stay relevant? I’m sorta hoping that the Wii U’s eShop and Virtual Console will catch up after the Spring update arrives to match and go beyond what the Wii Shop had.

      I hardly ever used these channels, but when I did it was because of this awesome music!

    Wait, there was channels like this on my wii the whole time!? Well… such a shame I suppose? The only thing I remember going to was the shop channel to get the VC games.

    does the wii u have a weather thing?

  • These went offline for me a long time ago when I modded my wii to play Japanese games.

    Nooo! ;A;
    I still use my Wii Weather and even the news! Why!? ;u;
    (Well, I know why, but still!)

    Heh, I have to admit whenever I turn on my Wii I simply love seeing what’s going on in Everybody Votes. I’ll be sad to see it disappear, hopefully it comes back in some incarnation on the Wii U.

    I wonder when the day comes when Nintendo and the others start shutting off the services that you bought games, etc., on and you lose access to that content. Think they’ll do the “right” thing and transfer your previous purchases to whatever new platform they move to or will they just make you repurchase everything? Or better yet, what will happen if consoles go “always online” and some day down the road they shut off the authentication servers and brick your console and your entire library.
