Psst… Ikaruga Shifts Polarity Lands On Android

By Spencer . April 14, 2013 . 1:25pm

One of my friends asked me what games he should get on Android. Since he’s a shmup fan I recommended some of Cave’s games and Ikaruga. "No way, Ikaruga," he said in disbelief while looking for the game. I checked the install chart and number of reviews, it appears people aren’t aware Ikaruga is on Google Play.

You can get the only portable version of Treasure’s polarity shifting shooter for about eight bucks. Remember the days when Ikaruga for Gamecube fetched for like $60 on eBay?

  • Well AFAIK it’s “made” by G-Gee and it forces you to create some kind of shady account. That company even have Dodonpachi, Espgaluda, Double Dragon, KoF and… El Shaddai (2D platformer sections) but I doubt they have rights to those titles.

    • FetusZero

Everything CAVE they have the rights.. but I’m never buying anything from G-Gee again (not to mention I find touch controls for a shmup to be horrible).

      • benhofb

I hate the touch controls with a passion. Being a bullet-hell game will fill the screen with bullets (naturally), so using my fingers to move the ship while auto-firing is just impossible on my phone. I feel like all those ports are more appropriate on tablets or something.

        • FetusZero

Agreed. I’d be happy to see them make their way onto PC though.. Having Ikaruga or DDP on PC would be amazing.

          • Barrylocke89

I agree, if games like Touhou can play well on PC, then I’m sure with some inner tweaks and the magic of DD, Ikaruga could too.

          • FetusZero

If eXceed2nd plays well, there’s no doubt Ikaruga would too since both uses a polarity system. Chaining is different though, but the core basics are the same.

  • Region locked as well it seems. So yeah pointless.

  • benhofb

It kinda annoys me that all these shmups are being released on phones other than getting handheld or HD re-releases. I mean I get it and everything… but playing DoDonPachi 3 on my phone sucked. It was watered down and felt easy due to the auto-fire. Meh…..

  • Zal_Yagun

Damn not compatible with Galaxy Note II

    • Guest

Those of us liking this comment had a fun time lol

      • Zal_Yagun

I know ways to get it to work, but I usually only use these methods just to demo the games

Still its annoying how many Andriod platforms exist and all these slight differences skew which devices work with the app

    • PoweredByHentai

      Same here.

    • Dam that means is won’t work on the S4 which i was hoping to get it on

  • SupaPhly

    • What’s wrong with them?

      • FetusZero

Probably depends who you ask, but for DDP and ESPGaluda, they released it open to all devices, weeks later they decided to block off the majority of devices out there and they won’t respond to inquiries regarding this matter. In the meantime, we are stuck having purchased a game that used to work fine, but that we can’t even download anymore. On top of having to register to G-Gee to play (which I know is a big no-no for many people).

  • MrSirFeatherFang

I found Ikaruga for the GCN at a GameStop a few years ago and it was $40 used. I immediately bought it lol
I also now like to shout the word Butsutekkai like a battle cry

  • Juan Andrés Valencia

I’d love a Vita version. Just sayin’!

  • Pope The Rev XXVIII

So it won’t be long before Ikaruga is on Ouya
