Will Tekken Arena Be Namco Bandai’s Next Tekken Project?

By Spencer . April 15, 2013 . 1:18am

imageThe Tekken franchise is still one of Namco Bandai’s strongest brands. In addition to fighting games like Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Namco Bandai has been spinning it off into CG movies and most recently a card game.

While we’re waiting for the nebulous Tekken X Street Fighter, Tekken Arena could be another Tekken project. Namco Bandai filed a trademark from Tekken Arena in Europe for use with videos. Siliconera actually first learned of Tekken Card Tournament through a trademark, which is available on iOS, Android, and web browsers now. Tekken Arena sounds kind of like a fighting game, not to be confused with the fighting game tournament.

LOL I didn’t see that coming..

sounds like a Social game to me. but they already got TCT, so hmph, i don’t know, but doesn’t sound like a main tekken.
i mean Tournament sounds greater than Arena right?

  • alixraen

As long as Julia is back, I don’t care what it is.

  • Solomon_Kano

For whatever reason, the title makes me think of a Power Stone-style 4P brawler. I’d be down for that!

    • I was thinking the same thing and i agree, that sounds hype

  • Raoni Marques

They should at least release some screenshots for Tekken X Street Fighter. I’ve been dying to have a look at the game.

  • Learii

they need a new .hack game for ps3,ps4 or vita

    • James Todd

      i second that motion

  • Erwin MadJelly

I wouldn’t mind if it’s a new tekken game for Vita if that’s what they are planning to do. Hopefully it’s like the upgraded ver of Tekken Tag 2 into the Vita, been waiting for Harada-san to announce something!!

    • Solomon_Kano

Mm. I’d love to have some Tekken on Vita. That’s the one big fighting franchise the system is missing right now. Of those currently running, anyway.

      • Erwin MadJelly

Agreed. So far the closest good fighting game we got is DOA 5+ for vita

  • Stephen Mc Devitt

It’ll probably be another movie. If so, more fight scenes and more sexual tension between Asuka and Lili! :3

  • Spirit Macardi

Gotta love how Namco will start working on something like this, even though they haven’t even finished their prior obligation of Tekken X Street Fighter x3

I get that Tekken is one of their big money-makers, but you have to allow a series some time to breathe between releases. It seems like there’s a new Tekken game coming every other week. Maybe they could instead direct the money toward a new game in a series they haven’t touched in a while (they have a freaking TON of those).

      …..wut. Tekken 6 came out in 2009 and we didn’t get ttt2 until 2012 O.o Just saying.

    • XaviIniesta

Well they have no obligation of making Tekken X SF. The deal was simply that they are allowed to make one if they want. Harada mentioned that he is re-thinking his strategy with the game.
If they can’t come up with a good idea to make it work then they shyould take all the time they need, or just not make it at all.

  • Darrell Coasey

arena huh? could be interesting. it’s best they keep releasing little inexpensive things to keep the franchise fresh before TxSF and ofc T7
