Knowing the obsession Playstation Plus has with old fighting games, this’ll be a shoe in to appear on it sometime soon.

So are there no more plans for added content or maybe an improved version? As much as I like the game especially the character customization, it felt like the game is still lacking in content.

It’s kinda sad that the team actually had big plans for this game but higher-ups at Namco forced them to rush the game. I even read that every character had their own story mode and c’mon, they can’t just hire CyberConnect to collaborate with them only to have a very short and lackluster Story Mode.

    • It was lacking in content, what a shame. All of the modes were very generic. The story and arcade modes especially. Yes, the customization was awesome! I just hope they put more content in the next one and not use this game as a reason to reboot the series.

I would only consider downloading this if it was a free playstation plus game, honestly… that’s how little I care for it :/ sorry. I’m just waiting for the next SC now and hoping that it’ll return the series to form for me.

I wonder if they would ever consider making the ACTUAL storymode which they wanted to make but then… I don’t know, budget ran out or the development time got drastically reduced, so we only got the paltry offering we got. The one which actually had every character have their own separate chronicle. THAT would be some darn nice DLC, I think.

It was said in an interview a while back that the dev team were told about a quarter of the way into production that they had to have it ready for X date, no ifs, ans or buts, so that it wouldn’t interfere with sales of game A that was coming out a few months before it, or game B a few months later.

They even said they had the (Japanese, presumably?) voice work done for the rest of the intended storymode and wanted to do something with it ‘someday’…you’d think they’d have slapped together the bare minimum of animation/still art (Which I actually didn’t mind!) and released it as DLC; if people are willing to blow $4 on a wedding dress or a sexy stewardess outfit, they’ll DEFINITELY blow $10 or $20 on something that actually matters.

Man, harsh luck on their behalf. I do hope that Namdai has rethought their strategies since then considering all the criticism the game got for that move. I do wonder if it’s too late to release a story-dlc, or if the fans are still willing to buy it.

More publishers should do this for certain games. I don’t know much about how this soul caliber was received, but i think it’s smart to put a game up for digital download at a lower price. Though 14.99 would make it even more attractive.

  • Solomon_Kano

A good price, but I’m not sure I want to own this at all. It just was so lackluster. Even so, I look forward to SCVI. Maybe it’ll be as good as 3 and back.

  • rurifan

Does anybody even still play this game? I thougth they completely ruined the game for 5. Hope they go back to something like SC4 next. :(

  • I only really create characters nowadays. I don’t care if a SuperUltimateFES comes out as long as Talim and Zas return and there’s just a rehash of the previous modes. This just felt like an expansion pack to IV with a lot of the original content removed… And for 360 users to not be gimped out of a screenshot function.

I played the hell outta this game! though i wouldn’t have if there character customization were less, that was my favorite thing about that game (Plus SoulCalibur is my favorite fighting game)

In terms of gameplay, Soul Calibur V is one of the best in the series if not THE best. But as a game, especially in catering to the vast, non-tournament oriented crowd, it was the worst. All it needed was a weapons master mode or something like that, and it would have been good.

      *cough* Chronicles of the Sword…*cough*

it lacks in content sure but its core game play and has easy replay/screenshot function for ps3 is great, as well as creation modes

  • blkalleykat

Soul Calibur is a really fun fighting series, however it’s one that could come out once every generation or so as they use to put so much time and polish in the older titles making the characters, balancing, music, stages and modes so great. I still play them but I think part 2 will always be my favorite

  • Damn, i just remembered i had this game …

  • Sephiroth420

it was the shittest version of soul calibur, soul calibur 4, 3 and 2 were so much better, hopefully namco takes note of where they went wrong, i could go on for ages about all the things wrong with soul calibur 5 but im not, coz im sure you all kjnow why its so shit

  • batanen

It might be worth the price if it included all dlc. Though due to the lack of content, I am not sure. The cheapest price this is sold on local online store at the moment is 12€ shipping included.

Shame on the people that didn’t pick this game up last year. It was one of the best 3D fighting games of the generation . The netcode is unmatched.
