Meet The Classes And Jobs Of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

By Ishaan . April 18, 2013 . 4:45pm

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has classes and jobs. Here’s the connection between the two as explained by Square Enix:

“By achieving sufficient mastery in a certain class, adventurers will be able to begin undertaking the mantle of a related job. For instance, gladiators may rise up as paladins, stout swordsmen who shield comrades from harm; thaumaturges may aspire to become black mages, masters of offensive magic; while conjurers may find a new calling as white mages, masters of healing.”

Today, Square released screenshots for a number of classes and jobs in the game. You can take a look at these below and visit the links above to read about each class and job.

My favorite White Mage outfit yet.

  • Tien Ron

    ooooooo amazing !!

  • http://altsune.com/ Ovada Bey

Somehow, I have a 42 White Mage and a Gobbue. I hope I still do when this releases XD

    • Shawn Cheah

I feel sorry for you. These characters will be wiped flat out of Eorzea. I’m gonna miss my Laguna clone too. Good news is OBT characters will not be wiped. Bad news is you Gobbue is gonna be gobbled up by the recycle bin.

  • cc

So pretty! …except for all that clipping on the White Mage’s staff >_<

  • cloudcaelum

    Looks really good.

  • Ferrick

kinda weird that the original base jobs are now the advance classes

  • Visa Vang

And why do we need these extra classes that are exactly the same of the original classes but with a different name?

To explain this without going too in depth, the classes, (Archer, Conjurer, etc) are the basic classes in the game. You can switch to any at any time and you can use non-exclusive skills between each of the six classes. This makes them great for soloing, because you make use of healing magic, stoneskin, etc. as a Lancer or something.
Jobs require you to have the base class at level 30 and a subclass at 15. You are required to do quests to gain skills for a job and you can only use skills from your main class, the sub class and one other class. You cannot use job skills between jobs. Class levels and job levels are one and the same, thus a 41 CNJ is also a 41 WHM. You get better skills for your class though when you have a job on, thus they’re like super saiyan versions of the base class, best used for party based missions. I doubt any of that made any sense, but whatever.

        Replying to Jordan Hicks also:

So you’re not restrict to one basic class and one advance job but you can change to what ever job you learn on the fly? Holy Ultima!!!

classes can equip skills from other classes, like a gladiator can use a TP regenerating skill from a lancer; this allows classes to be a more viable choice for soloing normal content, the jobs can be thought of as specialty roles. They can only equip skills from either of the two jobs that they come from (like monk can only use pugilist and lancer skills) but they are much more powerful in their respective roles, such as a dragoon doing far more damage than a lancer, but a DPS will turn into a glass cannon when the job is equiped (high damage, low survivability) so think of jobs as being raid roles, while classes are for general play.

The Bard reminds me of Ragnarok’s Bard. RO’s bards can equip bows or musical instruments.

If someone paints his white mage’s robe black, will he be able to use black magic? (joking)
Seems interesting, maybe I wll try it when it launches…

    • Dexward

Nope. It has to be painted blue.

  • Mithfalath

The graphics are gorgeous! And I can’t stop seeing Kain in that beast of a dragoon!

    • http://danforthwright.blogspot.com/ Danforth Wright

      My sentiments exactly!

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

I will be the best Dragoon ever! =^_^=

    • James

You’ll have to take me out first. :P

      • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

        Bring it! lol

  • Randy Marsh

I hope Blue Mage will be added to the game in the future, but I guess I’m going to have to play as a sexy White Mage when the game first comes out.

    • Wiccan1109

You say that now but wait til you see the granny pantaloons they’re hiding under that robe! When i was collecting the set, i didnt have the body piece, and walking around in it was actually the most embarassing thing ive ever been through in an MMO. I was getting tells from passers by “Wardrobe malfunction?” I had to stop wearing the legs and boots.

      It didn’t feel very sexy. ;;

      • Randy Marsh

Ah man and I wanted to be sexy!

      • Lilith

You must have been a male character. Females look delicious in them.

  • KyoyaHibari

Feelin Paladin, Dragoon and possibly Bard depending on the weapons.

  • Draparde

I’m probably gonna level Dragoon come 2.0…since i already have BRD,WAR, and MNK out of the way. (or maybe whitemage. i love that AF…)

  • Mister Spooks

Looks slightly more eye-catching than the usual MMO RPG. But without a thief class, I’m never playing this.

  • Vash bane

    this looks cool
    so many classes @.@

  • Shariest

Woot! Back To Thrauma And Drama!
    FF XIV 2.0 BETA BIATCHES!

  • Jesse Thompson

I despise your decisions to name the base classes some weird, funky names that don’t relate well with Final Fantasy mythos. However, you do get points for finally sticking to the traditional jobs somewhat. Here’s a tip (not that anyone important in Squeenix will read this), go back to the original job system of FFXI. It worked fine and FFXI still has people playing it…that should tell you something about it…how’s that pop on FFXIV doing?

    • Lilith

This is FFXIV not FFXI. If you like XI so much then keep playing that.

  • Hossi Blumengaarten

I hope they fix all the COPY PASTA all over

dammit SE what the hell where you thinking!!!

  • Sardorim

I may need a new computer.

  • knight

is the whit robe the only thing i can wear as a white mage?

  • Amine Hsu Nekuchan

It’s certainly very pretty… I wonder if that’s enough… I haven’t seen any particular draw being advertised except ‘pretty’ and ‘not FFXIV1.0′ and… that really doesn’t feel like enough to sell a game on… but who knows, maybe that and the FF brand is enough?

    • Mister Spooks

I sometimes wish Square would make a Final Fantasy MMO modeled after the styles of VII/VIII/X/XIII, with the harajuku-esq, future/punky themes. Final Fantasy XI already covers the classic thematics. I’d like something a little more anime-oriented.

      • Amine Hsu Nekuchan

I do think that there would be more draw to FFXIV if it had done more to differentiate itself, especially from FFXI. That said it’s probably impossible to find a truly unique setting genre for an MMO and SciFi MMOs seem to be an in thing right.

  • Nikolai Sumcad

SUMMONEEER! Literally the sole reason I’m playing this whole thing. XD
