By Spencer . April 19, 2013 . 3:22am

DoDonPachi Saidaioujou is on its way to consoles and the Xbox 360 version has an anime opening. The song in the background is "Stardust Void" from Aya Hirano who also sang the opening theme for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

If you’re wondering why the bees show up that’s because DoDonPachi literally translates to Angry Head Bee. Cave will release DoDonPachi Saidaioujou is slated for release on May 30.

Wasn’t Dodonpachi Daioujou one of the hardest shmups ever? I hope this one is gonna be a tad less.

Also, I know it’s completely unrelated, but what I’d actually like to see is a new Gigawing.

    • TrevHead

Even if the main arcade mode is rock hard, I believe the xbox 360 mode is easier.

      • AweOfShe

Agreed on that. And Arrange mode would more than likely be the easiest at least, if past Cave 360 releases are anything to go by. At least for me anyways, I’ve always found the Arrange modes to be easiest.

The East Asia stage of Dai Ou Jou is a breeze. Even on the hardest difficulty.

It’s only the third stage that things really start to get difficult. It is still a difficult game, though. I wouldn’t say it is the hardest in the franchise, though.

DaiFukkatsu is easily more difficult than Dai Ou Jou. I actually dream of someday properly defeating Hibachi in Dai Ou Jou. I’ll probably never be able to defeat Zatsuza. With the amount of dedication that would take, I could probably become a fighting game champion.

Still waiting to see about a possible release outside Japan since they said they were aiming for a western release at the same time as Japan, but I don’t think we’ve had any news about it since then.

    • I had read about the Cave games released on consoles haven’t sold as well as hoped for publishers. Someone contacted one of the reps. from Rising Star Games about a possible Ketsui release and received relied this message:

Unless Cave are contacting other publishers about Saidaioujou, it doesn’t seem likely there will a simultaneous release…

      • FetusZero

That’s sad, especially seeing how shmups being region free nearly is a thing of the past nowadays :/
CAVE had mentioned that they were looking at other publishers though:
“Besides Rising Star, we are talking with another publisher who’s goal is to release Dodonpachi Saidaioujou for Xbox 360 on the same date in Japan and outside of Japan.”

At least for Ketsui it isn’t as bad since it will be released on PS3, so the chances of it being region-locked are extremely slim.

        • TrevHead

Yeah DFK and AKS didn’t sell in the west despite Rising Star bending over backwards to please the fans in the US.

That’s why it puzzles me that CAVE are pushing for region lock and localisation with yet another Dodonpachi (although the shop does make it more noob friendly) Imo they should go for double packs to make it appealing to a westerner at £20 – £30.

Mushihimisama HD and Futari double pack is CAVEs best thing for localisation. Mushi Futari is for the more mainstream gamer, many of whom have seen that Hardest Boss Ever You Tube vid. Mushi HD is for us Shmup nut’s without a J360 while the pre-order ver1.5 DLC is for those who missed it.

Whoever publishes it makes it region free and that should sell. If it doesn’t then there’s no hope for any CAVE STG in the west.

(EDIT that said a SDJ & DFK 1.5 + BL + Ketsuipatchi Double pachi would be great, Or even better a full Dodonpachi 360 pack, considering Dopachi is the only one never to make it to 360, (DDP was on Instant Brain)

Imo the main reasons DFK and Akia failed to sell is that they were too complex for the average westerner. I mean just look at that IGN Akia Katana review. Mushihimisama is the most straightforward shmup CAVE has besides Deathsmiles which was the only sucessful CAVE shmup in the west.

          • FetusZero

Not to mention that shmups aren’t the biggest sellers in the west to begin with, but if they appear as complex titles, it definitely doesn’t help them. I can only imagine if these same people caught a glimpse of Hellsinker or ∀kashicverse x_x

  • TrevHead

It would be nice if CAVE could tell us if it’s gonna be region locked or not just so we know either way.

    • neo_firenze

It would be nice to hear confirmation, but more likely than not it will be region locked. Cave has said before that they were not going to release more region-free games.

They also seem to believe they might be able to license it to a western publisher, meaning they’d probably be less likely to release the Japanese version region-free to keep the license value higher. Whether that actually happens is to be seen, but it certainly could play into the decision making process for region locking.

      • Ceci “Ruzuzu” Kiyomizu

I’m going to say maybe Rising Star Games will publish the other games if they are bringing them down here.
Hell they did Akai Katana I wouldn’t be surprised if they want to give them more games.

        • neo_firenze

It’s very unlikely Rising Star would do another Cave game, any western localization would probably be from someone else. As matty posted below, DDPR and AK did very badly for them and they’re not interested in more Cave games:

          • Ceci “Ruzuzu” Kiyomizu

Well that’s a huge kick in the teeth looks like it’s back to importing D:

  • Chris Cruz

Ooooooh The Doujin material this is gonna make.

    • Maybe I’m lookin in the wrong places, but has there ever been doujin of any of the characters featured in Cave’s games? I don’t I’ve ever seen any of Deathsmiles… :o

      • superdry

Deathsmiles doujinshi do exist, but there aren’t that many.

    • TrevHead

There’s a 101 doujin that could spring out of what was happening at 0:43 in the vid.

Just what were those 2 teddies saying to each other!

  • Looks like I need a new 360 lol

  • Aoshi00

wonder if I should just get the LE since the Super LE is pre-sold out.. the only thing I want from the Super LE would be the original soundtrack (regular only has arranged), don’t really need the shitakjiki or stickers.. Love Hirano Aya’s song and her more mature voice like Mamo-nee of Eyeshield 21.

  • CirnoLakes

So apparently Hibachi is being called “Hana”. Hibachi is so adorable.

DoDonPachi would make a great anime. If done right it would please both moe fans and mecha fans. There’d be so much epic battle, drama and tragedy, and cute androids to boot.

  • s07195

The new characters definitely are overshadowing the other 3 original ones in the OP. In any case, no mistaking it, it is definitely Hirano Aya singing. Also, it seems that she’s voicing Saya, so that means she’s still voice-acting. :) Never really liked that she had to leave the VA industry due to the scandal, and still hope to see her voicing more characters.

On the game…. I don’t have an XBOX 360, and I exceedingly fail at these games, even on arcades. :P If they ever considered a PS3 version I might pick it up.
