The "Z" In Puzzle & Dragons Z Stands For The Deadly Z Drop

By Spencer . April 25, 2013 . 3:49pm

pdzed08Puzzle & Dragons Z, the Nintendo 3DS version of GungHo Online Entertainment’s money printing smartphone game, has some changes. The 3DS game will play more like a RPG and the enemies look more animated. Slimes move to attack now instead of flashing on the screen.

The core gameplay where you match gems to activate monsters in your party is the same – except for one new move. The Z Drop is a new attack made for Puzzle & Dragons Z. If you erase a gem that lights up by matching it on the board you’ll do heavy damage. This is one tactic you can use to defeat formidable foes.

Puzzle & Dragons Z will be released later this year.

  • A Puzzle/RPG hybrid, hey I can dig that, that’s the kind of oddball hybrids I like to see.

Now for my FPS Fantasy RPG hybrid idea; you shoot down dragons and cute monsters with military weapons and gain experience. Each bullet gets you tiny bits of experience maybe. XD Flamethrowers are good against grass enemies! I could go on.

But then, Mass Effect is kinda that, just not as stereotypical. XD

How can anyone support the murder of such cute creatures!

I can seem to get into anything tetras like/puzzle related. It just feels like rolling a dice, hoping for luck, instead strategizing and using skill…. Is it just me?

LOL not on this game, yh a bit of luck but if you go with crappy monsters or dont save the good jewels in a corner for bosses in some of the dungeons to make a fast kill before he kills you are the one who’s gonna end up moping the floor..

While the pieces are randomized in puzzle games, in games like Tetris or Puyo-Puyo, there’s a lot of skill involved in planning ahead and keeping cool under pressure. Additionally, a lot of popular ones (Puyo, Puzzle Fighter, etc) feature multiplayer modes where each player is given the same sequence of pieces.

In PAD, there’s the addition of a strategic level in the monsters you add to your party.

I can’t bring myself to like the new layout, I prefer the smartphone version ._.

  • A Z makes everything sound cooler.

…god, I missed Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes. Now that’s one Puzzle RPG I had a tough time putting down, imbalances and all. And I don’t even like Puzzle games in general (except in very specific cases, like Prof Layton, Ace Attorney, Puzzle Battlecry/Galactrix… okay, I *maybe* like the genre a little, lol).
