Marvelous AQL Developing A Game Called "Cross Horizon" [Update]

By Spencer . May 1, 2013 . 2:30pm

Update: Thanks to Siliconera reader Shin Asura, we now know that Cross Horizon is an Android RPG with real-time touch-based combat. Above and below are a few screenshots:

Original story: Marvelous AQL, the company behind Muramasa Rebirth and eventually Kaio: King of Pirates, is also working on something called Cross Horizon.

We’re not quite sure what Cross Horizon is, but it will probably be an international release since Marvelous AQL filed a trademark for Cross Horizon in the US. Siliconera was able to acquire the logo art for the title.

Anyone want to make a guess on what kind of game Cross Horizon is solely based on this logo?

  • Andrew Arndt

i hope the eu to really sounds like a rpg maybe

  • VitaminC

    Strategy RPG.

  • DesmaX

I’ll assume that, in this game, you will hit stuff with those weapons in the logo

    • IkouKuhn

      You don’t say?

    • Wait, what ? You will hit stuff with a butterfly ?!

  • FetusZero

No idea, but the preview image on the front page was enough to make me click out of interest. I’ll be keeping an eye on this.

  • Seems interesting by the logo alone. Perhaps it’s Dragon Marked for Death?

    • Solomon_Kano

Holy crap. I forgot all about Dragon Marked for Death. Maybe Marvelous did too, what with all of their Vita games lol.

  • Rudy Soto

    Sounds neat.

  • A RPG.

  • biskmater

I like the design of the sword, I shall put the safest bet for an RPG, but who knows?

  • Sounds cool, and loving the game’s logo.

    • stephane3012

i love your avatar.POTATO GIRL FTW!!!

  • There’s a fairy, therefore, it’s obviously AQL’s attempt at a Bravely Default. Duh!

I kid. I really have no idea besides it’s almost certainly an RPG of some kind. It’s be really cool if the title meant the characters travel between a fantasy world and our world, though.

    • puchinri

Isn’t it a butterfly though? I tried to think of other recent games with butterfly motifs, but nothing came to mind (except Bayonetta, but her’s is much more flamboyant and gaudy in a way; which is perfect for her).

      That’s a fun idea though~.

  • Prungy

It’s probably going to be a crossover card battle game for Android, or something like that. Definitely a smartphone game.

    • Solomon_Kano

Well, they did open a UK office focused on mobile and social development last year, but nothing’s materialized yet. So, yea, this could be a smartphone game.

  • Space_Ghost

Speaking of Kaio: King of Pirates, where the heck is it already? At least some updated information about how the game development is going would be great Inafune-san!

  • AdachiTohru

They got a lot of sucess on vita recently, maybe an other game on Vita ?

  • Cross Horizon, needs to have Sound Horizon’s Revo as composer.

    • Solomon_Kano

Yes, please. That would be amazing.

    • puchinri

This. Especially after BD’s OST. We need more game OSTs with Revo at the helm. (And if not Revo, I hope they get Basiscape~.)

  • Solomon_Kano

A better question is what platform. It very much sounds like it’ll be an RPG, but on what system?

Marvelous has seen some of the most successful releases on Vita with Valhalla Knights 3 being the last of their announced releases for the platform, while they’ve still got Kaio and Dragon Marked for Death in the works on 3DS. And they don’t do console work, unless they’re looking to change that now, so… more Vita?

    • puchinri

I’m actually wondering if even Bokujo/HM will return to home consoles anytime soon. I miss having (home) console titles by them, especially for HM. But they do great portable work too, so it’s hard to be too disappointed.

      • Solomon_Kano

I wonder. I have no idea how the Wii games did, so I couldn’t even hazard a guess. With the series having more portable entries than console, with them having alternated over the years, I can’t imagine we won’t see another console game in the future. I also wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t though, seeing as the series has more portable entries anyway.

        • puchinri

I thought I remember them doing fairly well? But I also don’t think the sales were anything special.

Probably could go either way, but I do expect to see another home console HM from them. But given the success of the 3DS game, I wonder if we’ll see many more portable titles before that happens (and when we’ll see a HM on Vita; last gen, they stuck to one portable pretty well).

          • Solomon_Kano

I don’t think we’ll ever see HM on Vita. The PSP games sold considerably less than the DS games, and the Vita is in the same position relative to the 3DS as the PSP was to the DS. I’d wager it’ll be a few years before we see another HM on consoles, but that’s because I’m expecting it for Wii U and its current straits certainly aren’t welcoming for MAQL (or most anyone else, really).

          • puchinri

I was tossing around the idea. I figure they may try a Vita title and it would make sense to see one eventually, but I did feel that the chances were low.

I was thinking the same though. Somewhat unfortunate, but at the same time, I hope that just gives them more time to get familiar with the hardware and do something real nice~. (The Wii games were both two of my fav in the series, and if they blended those better and made some changes, they’d really have something going for them.)

          • Solomon_Kano

Yea, hopefully they’ll spend some time getting familiar with the hardware even if they aren’t going to make a game on it for a bit. I suppose another possibility is that we see HM on PS3 in the years after the PS4 takes the spotlight. I don’t know how RF: Tides of Destiny did for them across PS3 and Wii, but if it wasn’t a failure, I could totally see them doing a PS3 HM while we wait for Wii U to pick up steam.

          • puchinri

I think I remember it did okay (but the Wii version did better?)? That’s also a possibility, but not entirely something I imagine them doing. It’ll be interesting to see what they do though.

  • Raharu95

    Interesant :3

  • Please by Dragon Marked for Death and still on 3DS. :(

Inti Creates is very Nintendo handheld focus and made a few 3DS games (at least 3) so far, so there’s little chance of that game being moved.

  • Aristides

A hunting game! … lol hope it’s an RPG for vita.

  • Visa Vang

Why am I the only one who’s thinking about Chrono Cross’s logo?

    • You weren’t

    • Christopher Nunes

I was thinking Chrono Trigger, but I wasn’t too far off though.

    • Warboss Aohd

dat woz an’ amazin’ game, far better den it’s predecessor.

  • Freud_Hater

Sounds cool. Logo looks great, too, and from the Kindgom Hearts-ish swords featured on it, I’ll go for some sort of Japanese RPG. Which is always A-Okay in my book!

  • Prinny Dood

A cross over rpg like crossedge or project x zone. Hope its not a card battler

  • Scarletmoonwish

It kinda of remind me of the Rune Factory games, with the font, choice and color scheme. and it from the same company maybe it something similar to rune factory but on a different systems….Vitia?

  • puchinri

I like the look logo, and hopefully that’ll go for the game itself~.

  • puchinri

I’m more curious about whether or not it’s something they’re actually developing themselves, or if they’re really just going to play the role of publisher mostly.

Also, they did say they were interested in more new original titles.

    • Solomon_Kano

Huh. Looks interesting from the screens. It’s free too, so I guess I’ll give it a shot once it’s available in the US.

  • puchinri

Heh, did not see that coming. It looks kind of good and like it could be pretty fun though~.

  • Somazu

I see this is already available on the Google play store. too bad its not available in Europe.
    Being Europe is suffering.

  • Silent

What happened to the avatar .__. Looks like his head has been cut from a different body to be put on this one.

  • Monster hunter type?
