Muramasa Rebirth Shipments Reach 100,000 Units In Japan

By Spencer . May 1, 2013 . 12:37am

imageMarvelous AQL seems to be having a successful run with the PlayStation Vita. Soul Sacrifice, Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus, and the vivid port of Muramasa: The Demon Blade have all sold fairly well in Japan.

Muramasa Rebirth broke past 100,000 units sold. This figure includes shipments* of the packaged game and PSN purchases for the digital release. Not bad considering the game is only a month old. Looking back, the Wii version was "in the ball park of 35K" according to the NPD with a little less than month’s worth of sales in North America.

Muramasa Rebirth comes out on June 25 with a new localization from Aksys.

*As a clarification to an earlier version of this post, the figures for the packaged version are shipments.

Very nice very nice indeed, They deserve it after pushing out such good games which i will be getting soon~

  • Go2hell66

people finally realising the brilliace of vanillaware

  • XypherCode

Bravo to Vanillaware and Marvelous AQL. Are the DLC available already?

  • Prithivi

Great news! Happy to hear that different and artistically significant games like this sell well (even though they should sell more!).

I hope they have the same luck with Dragon’s Crown!

  • Crazy_O

    The game really deserves it.

  • RovCal

    great news indeed.

  • Kalis Konig

Glad this is doing well and getting the attention it initially deserved. It was one of my favorite games on wii and I was crushed to find out how abysmal the sales were.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Glad to hear they’re selling well. Hope this encourages more devs to continue making 2D games.

  • d19xx

A deserving game! Dragon’s Crown is shaping out great too. Now give us HD re-release of older Vanillaware games and they can have my money again…

  • Niyari

just an fyi, you can pre-order the game for $29.99 on Newegg (as of 5/1/13). no idea how long it’s going to last, though.

    • Solomon_Kano

      Oh snap! Thank you!

    • Sayorain

It’s not the premium pre-order though.

  • Göran Isacson

Congratulations on the successes, Vannilaware! Here’s to hoping it will sell well when it drops in the west too.

  • Solomon_Kano

Very happy to see this has done exponentially better than on its initial release. People are coming to recognize the glory of Vanillaware! Hopefully, with Atlus’ profile being much higher than MAQL’s, we’ll see an even better turnout for Dragons Crown.

But good golly gosh, Marvelous is making a killing on Vita.

    • z_merquise

Yeah, I’m also glad Vanillaware is getting more recognition they deserve. I’m hoping Dragon’s Crown could be their biggest success.

I just hope the undeserved controversy for Dragon’s Crown won’t affect the sales in the Western countries.

      • Solomon_Kano

It may actually help. If people are reasonable and read Kamitani’s response to the bullshit, hopefully they’ll see it for what it was. The other thing is, that controversy may have brought the game to interested people who may not have heard of it before. I guess we’ll see though. Keeping my fingers crossed that it does better than their previous games.

  • Alexander Conrad

just had to get on a proper platform.

    well done vanillaware well done

  • mirumu

Part of me expected this, but another part of me remembered the sales for the original Wii version. This suggests that really was a poor platform match back in the day. A real shame as the game is great and it deserved better sales.

  • I got the LE pre ordered. Chance of a lifetime.

  • Delighted that Marvelous are rewarded for their efforts on Vita. I hope they make Rune Factory on Vita in the future!

  • All right this is helping the Vita sales in Japan. I like to see the same in US and Europe.

  • The game has already effectively doubled it sales with this port. Pretty awesome.
