Doujin Shooter Crimzon Clover Flies To Arcades

By Spencer . May 3, 2013 . 12:10am

It took five years for Yotsubane to create Crimzon Clover for PC, bringing it to arcades only took another two. This bullet hell shooter is a doujin game or an indie title from Japan. Crimzon Clover has a standard rapid fire shot, an essential tool for destroying waves of enemies, and a lock on attack. Hold lock on down and you target enemies with a laser that hones in on targets kind of like Raystorm. The downside is locking on slows your ship down. You also have a Break button that either releases a bullet clearing bomb or makes your ship hyper powerful depending how much meter you have. This interview with Yostuba is a good read if you want to know more about Crimzon Clover and the Japanese indie scene.

Crimzon Clover came out for PC in 2011. It just made its arcade debut with Taito’s NESiCAxLive network features built in. The game has also been rebalanced for arcades.

The amount of stuff on screen reminds me of Gigawing, and the bullet type reminds me of Cave games. But most importantly, the shooting system reminds me of Sokyugurentai, it’s a shame nobody ported it to any modern platforms yet.

Yeah I think quite alot of ppl are overlooking this game because it’s a PC doujin, but CC is seriously a damn fine shmup, it’s half PS1/ DC era shmup and CAVE bullet hell.

The popcorn patterns seem quite different in the arcade version, I hope it one day is ported to 360 / PC so I can play it.

Ah, Crimzon Clover.. I remember being all excited back then when it came out and I imported it. Can’t believe it’s been two years already -_-

Way behind are the years of the SNES were shooters were a genre I could actually call myself good at. Now I know the feeling some people have when they say – “You know, just play by yourself. I like watching you play better” – … Whenever I see a shooter these days fireworks of uncontrollable and colorful sparks come to mind almost instantanously.

Kudos to the japanese for actually excelling in this genre. Oh and Dance Dance Revolution… Or was that the Korean? I don’t know…

So the game was first released on PC and is now being re-released with balance changes. You could say they are releasing Crimzon Clover…..over and over.
