Those Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 Costumes Cost Much More In Japan

By Spencer . May 6, 2013 . 3:00pm

imageNamco Bandai releases lots of downloadable decorative items for the Tales games and Soulcalibur, so why not try the same tactic with the Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Storm series? CyberConnect2′s fighting game has paid costumes and what’s interesting is the price discrepancy between the West and Japan.

Five outfits (Anbu Kakashi, Road to Ninja Sasuke, Road to Ninja Hinata, Swimsuit Sakura, and Armored Naruto) were given out as a preorder bonus. All of the other costumes are 300 yen a piece. There are 24 paid DLC costumes which brings the total to 7,200 yen ($72). Add in the Akatsuki and Kage hats packs which are a 100 yen each and we have a grand total of 7,400 ($74) yen for Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 downloadable content. Ouch, that’s almost the same price as a copy of the game, which is 7,480 yen ($75) in Japan.

Namco Bandai was nicer to the West and bundled the costumes in packs. If you add up the price of the Swimsuit, Kage, Road to Ninja, Special Costume, School Uniform, Hello Kitty outfit for Sakura ($3 in both regions), and the two hat packs the grand total is $13. That’s a significant difference in cost and interesting to see how Namco Bandai scaled pricing back for the West.

I think the Tales of Graces f costumes cost just about the same in the US compared to the prices in Japan, correct?
I sure hope the prices for the Tales of Xillia costumes don’t exceed $100… (in the NA PSN of course)

    • Lucian Kara

Well supposedly a few of the DLC costumes will be unlockable in-game with the NA and EU versions. I doubt this, but you never know. Still, I hope we get Milla’s Dominatrix-type costume.

Just depressing that the game isn’t as good as storm 2, i didn’t even finish the final battle before trading it in.
    Bring me JoJo’s now CC2!

    • StarWarudo

Man, I can’t wait till Jojo comes out in August.

    • Tsuna Sawada

You saved yourself the headache by avoiding the final battle.
      BTW JoJo FTW!

  • Asura

    That’s just obesely obscene.

    • mockturtle

I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone use “obesely” in this context before. Or even just as an adjective, for that matter.

  • Lucian Kara

Holy Mother of God! $74 bucks worth of DLC for a somewhat rehashed fighter? What is this SSFIV: Naruto Edition?

      Ever heard of Idolm@ster ?

      • Lucian Kara

I have, and it’s a definite cash grab, but that’s also an incredibly niche title so the DLC issue is somewhat expected in this day and age. UNS sells well enough on name alone to make up for a lack of overly expensive cosmetic DLC.

I can pretty much guarantee you, that it is anything BUT niche, at least in Japan. And also, think of the upcoming iOS-Games. 60 Bucks per Game, just saying.

They should make them free, already spent money on the game

    • Herok♞

Why would they, the stuff is cosmetic and not needed to play the game

      • Calamity

I remember when you just unlocked your characters, skins and whatnot through regular play. Guess that’s just not hip anymore.

        • Herok♞

Well all the characters are still in the game without dlc, so beyond that I feel its no problem.

          • Tien Ron

yeah, these are silly extra’s there’s no need to actually get them unless you wanted to

  • Nirun Rangraengjit

Now do the same thing for Tales of Xillia DLC costumes.

  • AnimeLeirus .

I don’t see this fair AT ALL!

Is almost if they were charging Japanese people for North America prices on NS:UNS3 crappy outfits.

  • Hachio

    japanese consumers getting f’ed again
