DoDonPachi Saidaioujou Shows Off The Xbox 360 Mode

By Spencer . May 7, 2013 . 2:36pm

Cave usually adds extra content to their arcade ports and DoDonPachi Saidaioujou has an Xbox 360 exclusive character named Saya who carries a stuffed teddy bear and a pink bunny. Xbox 360 mode has a lot of talking while you’re weaving through bullets. There’s a whole story to listen to. Suzaku even talks to Saya while you’re battling bosses.

DoDonPachi Saidaioujou also has an HD mode which is the arcade game with enhanced graphics and Ver 1.5 mode. The game comes out in Japan on May 30.

Loving the music! I really want to play this, but alas I have no 360 =(

  • FetusZero

Come on CAVE.. give us some news about that worldwide release / region lock, be it good or bad news, just confirm it o_o

    • TrevHead

Yeah I would rather CAVE just come out and say this game is region locked so I can stop following this game and move on.

The lack of concrete info is making me suspect that CAVE is gonna surprise us with a RF announcement at launch.

      • FetusZero

I wouldn’t mind that, though that’d mean I’d likely miss my chance at a limited edition, but I still wouldn’t mind such a surprise lol.

  • AweOfShe

I have the LE / Super LE pre-ordered at 3 different stores, and I’m still paranoid that I won’t end up with any of them. :P

  • TrevHead

BTW what’s with the Disqus comments notification pop ups recently. It’s a complete mess as I keep on getting notified of new comments that are weeks and months old. Dtoid is even worse than this site.

It’s Disqus’s system entirely. It’s a buggy mess as of late.

Not to come down on the neat addition, but for those that are trying to concentrate on bullet hell, I would surely hope there’s a way to turn that off.

    • TrevHead

From what I’ve been told by other shmuppers you can turn the voice acting down/off.

  • neo_firenze

I doubt I’ll care much about the Xbox mode – supposedly it’s a ridiculously easy “novice mode” and constantly chattering characters isn’t of much interest to me.

Not that I’m not interested in the game though, have the Super LE ordered and I fully expect SDOJ to end up in my list of top games EVER. No pressure :)

    • AweOfShe

Which store did you end up going with? Amiami was impossible. I think it sold out a couple of hours within it being put up, haha

      • neo_firenze

Got mine from NCSX. Missed their first pass, but got in on the second round (which also went FAST). Can’t wait though. Since DFK and DOJ are some of my all time favorites, I have very high expectations for SDOJ!

And RSG decided NOT to localize this? I…. I still don’t understand WHY they ditched their partnership with CAVE.

    • neo_firenze

It’s pretty simple – because sales of their previous Cave localizations were not good. Wouldn’t be surprising if Cave asked for a hefty licensing fee too, so it might just not have made business sense from an economic perspective.

      • TrevHead

If they can’t make money off single games then CAVE should push for double pack localisations, like DFK / SDOJ & Mushi 1 & 2.

        • neo_firenze

That probably doesn’t really help RSG, since Cave would likely charge more for multiple licenses.

And you have to remember, it’s not really up to Cave themselves to push for localization, it would require some interest from western publishers that doesn’t seem to be there. Couple that with Cave’s traditional attitude toward the west (i.e. generally they’ve ignored it entirely) and history of making questionable business decisions, and it’s really not much surprise that they are lacking an impressive localization strategy for Saidaioujou.

Yeah lets talk about a game the average US gamer can’t play as it’ll probably be region locked.

    • neo_firenze

      1) This site constantly discusses news about Japanese games that may or may not get released outside of that region, and it’s a great English language resource for people talking about games in Japan.

      2) A significant chunk of people who care about Cave or the shooter genre in general DO have the ability to play Japanese 360 games.

      3) Funny coming from someone with a Ketsui avatar… A game which (outside of an imported arcade board) is currently only available in a region locked 360 port. (Yes, I realize the PS3 port is coming in July).

      • Pope The Rev XXVIII

        I have the PCB

  • neo_firenze

Cave has just confirmed Saidaioujou will be region free via their official (Japanese) Twitter: https://twitter.com/cave_matsuri/status/332848254461034499

I would assume that means the chance of a western localized release is very low, or else they would have held out to license the game to a western publisher.
